I am British. I have visited the USA 5 times. Every time I had to get an ESTA which is the USA version of this. I visited Australia. They have a version of this too. It has only ever taken a few minutes to fill out and make payment. I don't see this as a big deal.
Thank you for the great information. Heard about it but wasn’t sure what was needed 😊
Thank you Jordan for explaining this process so well. As a British citizen living in the USA I am very familiar with this process, my family traveling from the UK to the US have had to do this for a while now. It will soon become a normal part of the procedure for traveling. As you said nothing to freak out about!
Thank you for the information
Thank you for the info and explaining the process. 😊
Thank you!!
Very informative. Thank you. We did something similar in 2018 when cruising in Australia.
Thanks for keeping us informed!
Thank you for the information!
Thanks for the information . We are going to Europe next year and I am happy you shared this.
Thanks for this clear and concise explanation. You guys are the best
Very informative video! Thank you for doing this research!
Great information. I haven't heard about this yet from any other Cruise Channel.. Well done!!!
Thank you for a clear explanation!
Thanks for the information.
Thanks for info. I follow a lot of general travel channels so I’d already heard about it but glad you’re informing the cruise community as well. I’m not too stressed about it as I had to get an electronic Visa for Australia once at $25 US (so slightly more) and it was no big deal.
We felt similarly about the process in New Zealand! Thanks for watching.
Sounds like an 🏴 ESTA and we do it as Europeans before 🧳 to 🇺🇸😊. Still sounds easier than getting a visa.
Yes! Very similar!
Finally, I found so annoying we as Europeans had to do it for years.
Yeah, it's just EU retaliation for the US ESTA system. Unfortunately.
Thanks for doing this. Very clear and professionally presented. Best Wishes and Happy Cruising. Cheers!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for your information
Fantastic info !!
Good info. Had not heard this.
Thank you so much for this information. Very important to know.
Thank you for watching!
Thank goodness you posted this.
Happy to help!
Very informative video! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
The Man About the Place and I are looking at a European cruise for Fall of 2024. I had no idea this program existed. Thanks for the heads up! Love you guys.
Thank you very much for explaining this so well. We are Brits and your information was so much clearer than anything we could find on line.
This year I'm cruising to New Zealand thus I'm getting fully ready for next year. I have to get a Visa to get into Australia and a permit for New Zealand. This is a very helpful video. Love following your channel. The Visa was super easy.
Thank you for putting this out. It will help me as I prepare for my 12-night Holy Land cruise y Europe next year. Thank you as always in keeping us informed ❤
Thanks for the info
You’re welcome!
Great information. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Very thorough coverage.
Great info. Both Australia and New Zealand use the same sort of electronic visas. It was easy and virtually the same for each country.. The cost was slightly higher (although I can't remember the exact amounts.) You do need a smart phone in order to load the app for each country and then to scan you passport and take a photo. I suspect that this won't be any problem for the vast majority of cruisers traveling internationally.
Good info, and if I were traveling... not a big deal. I think this is going to become more common for countries over the next few years.
This is similar to ESTA in US and ETA in Canada for visitors without a visa from outside North America.
Yes-exactly.
Exactly this.
Apart from the USA ESTA costs nearly three times as much.
Oh gosh, I have a Rhine river cruise and a Baltics sea cruise booked for next year. Thanks for the heads up.
It sounds straight forward. Thank you for the information!!! We are planning a family European cruise for the fall of 2024.
Thank you for watching! Have a wonderful trip in 2024!
I read the ETSA is good for 90 days. Don’t wait until the last minute to apply
Thanks for this we are doing Portugal, and Spain next May
For your next video answering all our questions: My flights in june were canceled, then delayed, and later changed. I was supposed to fly to London, but ended up in Norway via Finland. So if that were to happen in 2024, 9:11 I am guessing that I would have needed to amend my visa???
Excellent explanation! Thanks so much!
Love your Channel, I just subscribes to your channel. Thanks for the information- - BUT!!! I have so many questions. I always plan a year to 1.5yr in advance on all my cruises/ and travels. I am wondering do I apply for the Visa Now to see if I'm approved or not for the 2025 ? Wouldn't it make more sense to know earlier so that we know if we should buy the cruise, flights and or hotel plans..right? Will the cruise line be more flexible with their fees ( the fees that are due when a change of cruise date is needed) if the visa are not approved? It will be interesting on how this goes about. Hope you guys keep up updated..Thanks again!
Thanks for that.
You're welcome
Thanks for the info: Its the first I've heard of this change, and I have a cruise leaving the US, going to Canada, Greenland and Iceland in 2024. I'll be on the lookout as time approaches.
Happy to help! Have a wonderful time on that trip-that itinerary is awesome.
Great information, thanks for sharing. Doesn’t really make cruising any more difficult than filling out information for online check-in. Since one needs to either fly or take a ship to travel to Europe it would be nice if the carrier did the ESTIAS application for the travelers automatically as they already have needed info in the travelers’ profiles.
Y ppl like it
Thanks so much for this info! I’m flying into London and cruising to Norway next July on Apex - how long is the approval good for? Can I apply this far in advance just to get it done?
Yes I am planning a trip to Europe in 2024, thanks
Will be visiting several European ports on a transatlantic before we arrive Southampton, continuing back2back for a Norwegian fjords cruise. Should I list the first port (which we could miss) on TA or Norway for Norway cruise?
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
hi :) is the list of countries countries that have to get this new esta visa? or is it the countries that are exempt from this program?
Very good information. I am planning a trip.
Glad it was helpful!
What is the name of the form tou filked out in new zealand .thsnk you 😊
I just heard about this the other day
Hi. Great video to summarise this new system. You have missed a couple of important points though. The UK will have its own system (called ETA). It goes live in November 2023 for Qatar and February 2024 for mainly Gulf states but will extend to other countries (including USA) later. Ireland currently does not have a system and has not yet announced one. So, if you are travelling to Ireland only and you do not require a visa, you won’t need to worry at the moment. Unfortunately, travellers to Ireland who wish to visit Northern Ireland on their trip will likely require the UK ETA when it becomes operational, even though there will be no border checks to verify this!
Thanks for sharing the info. It is similar to go to Australia. Just wondering if I'm cruising out from Athens and will have a connecting flight in Amsterdam before flying to Athens. Should I put Netherlands as my entry country or Greece? Hmm🤔
I really paid attention to this information. We have a Viking Cruise in the very end of January/February. But I trust you will update the information when the website opens. Thank you for the info.
Happy to help Judy!
What about if you are transiting in Munich before arrival in your Italian cruise embarkation? Do you put Munich as the first city?
I had to fill out an electronic travel in 2022 for entry to Spain on a transatlantic cruise. Not sure what is different.
So if my incoming flight has a stopover in England before I get to Rome, do I enter my stopover or Roma, Italia?
Yep…was in Norway and the British Isles in May 2023, and will be returning in 2025 to Sweden, Poland, Berlin, Germany, and returning to Norway. Hope it is a smooth process for us oldsters!
Thank you for the information. Happy to do it. I was told that visitors to the US have to do something similar.
You’re very welcome!
Yes they do and have done for several years now.
Good information for all, more information as a lot of countries around the world have this. Some say it’s to gather information for Security. Some have actually said this is for a money grab because they want to augment paying the security personnel and immigration passport personal. This has been simpler with cell phones and most places have this are like 15 min to complete and some have a small fee of like $10 give or take
That’s a good comparison- with the way cell phones work. I guess we’ll never really know the reason behind all of it.
Its not that difficult or inconvenient. As a Brit, I've had to apply for an ESTA for the USA, ETA for Canada and the equivalent for Australia. Takes 20 minutes online and payment of a small fee. The US ESTA is valid for 2 years (I think!) and Canada's ETA is valid for 5 years so its not something you have to do too often. No doubt it will be the same with the Euro version. Americans will just have to get with the program like the rest of us!
What of your taking a Transatlantic from Fll or Mia .
So we need to do this for every single cruise? We have a British Isles cruise in 6/24 and a paris to the swiss alps in 8/24.
We had to do a similar thing to enter Canada for a few days.
Sounds like.a tracking system and a money maker at $7.75/each. I appreciate the information. I fly to Athens for my November 2023 Mediterranean cruise. This is good info for my upcoming trips to Europe.
What about a British Isles cruise starting in Southampton - would I need one??
We had to do an electronic entry form for Bermuda when we sailed there in October of 22. They charged $40 per person then. Sounds more like revenue enhancement to me. I think it took a couple of weeks for approval at the time.
At 7 euros its not very big a revenue item like the Bermuda one was.
That's an obscene tourism tax to visit an grossly overpriced British territory. I looked at accommodations on Bermuda and was aghast at the cost. It makes America seem cheap in comparison. I'll prioritize all the other beautiful places around the globe where I can enjoy myself for a fraction of the cost.
@@tomhenry1592It all adds up. We have ****ing America to blame for this debacle. Soon almost every county worth visiting will require either a Visa or a travel authorization. And America started this godforsaken trend. So, THANKS America for ****ING all of us over yet again. BRAVO!!!👏👏
Big brother is watching
Thanks for this info. We leave for a trip to Portugal in January 2. Hopefully the website will be up by then. Also, if you connect through another country, such as Frankfurt, do you need to list that country if you’re just going to be in the airport.
I think this would depend usually in Europe transit passengers don't go through border control but stay airside might depend on the airport though
Great information. The requirement to identify the country of first entry is very confusing, particularly if you are visiting multiple countries. Also if the application is good for 3 years, I wouldn't have to identify any country I visited on any subsequent trip? Anyway, I'm sure if we can figure out Covid testing and vaccination requirements, we can figure this one out. Oh, and is the UK going to have a similar separate system?
It sounds like a great idea if it works
I am taking a transatlantic cruise from miami to italy. There are other EU ports before the final port in Italy. Will i put Italy as my first EU country I am entering? I also read that port stops dont count towards the 90 day limit, is that correct?
What does that do to longer cruises like a world cruise? And if at sea days do we have to fill out form each time we go back to land?
This is a great question. We hope the cruise lines will address this for those booked on world cruises. Most world cruises can get through Europe in 90 days so may not be a problem.
The U.S. has the same process and similar fees; it is a response to the U.S. Pretravel authorization system. I wonder if they'll have kiosks in the airports for exiting the EU (The U.S. has these at departure gates instead of airline collecting cards that were stapled to passport at entry).
Going in May 2024 through South Hampton around the British Isles. Another form🤯. Just like staying in Mexico which we are very familiar with.
You will need to apply for the UK ESTA then. From the British gov.
Can you pre-approve without having a destination?
Question: If I'm flying from the USA to Venice Italy and have a connection in Paris (France), would I list France as the first country since that is where I'd be entering the EU then Italy, etc?
If you start a cruise in the UK and then go to some EU countries, do you have to do the UK and EU process?
We have a travel agent and she is top notch.
Does this coincide with the Schengen countries? I guess all West European countries except the UK are in under that agreement.
Quick comment : I was looking for the thumbnail last night /this morning and couldn’t find but I did get a notification when the video started.
Hey Bobby! Yes, this video wasn’t a “Premiere” as we are having poor Wi-Fi reception and didn’t know if we would be able to chat. This Video Release was a Non-Premiere Release which basically means we couldn’t promote the video until it released today at 12:30 pm ET (when you received the notification that it was published).
In a nutshell, all is good! Glad you got a notification! 🔔
We all know how ports on a cruise can get adjusted last minute. What happens on a TransAtlantic that has the first EU stop in Ponta Delgado and for some reason that is cancelled?
Thank you for the great information. Question, will the United States be requiring the same for European people traveling from Europe to the U.S ?
Yes. Europeans, as well as those nationalities that are part of the Visa waiver program, have been applying for ESTAs for years! We can't so much as board a flight to the USA without a valid ESTA!
I cannot find anywhere about having to list the countries that you plan on visiting, or the part about listing the country that you will visit first. Can you clarify? Or note your source? As you can imagine, this part is important.
What if you change planes in Europe en route to your "first" country? For example, using your example, say I'm taking a Mediterranean cruise from Citivecchia in Italy, but I have a flight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam and then Rome? Is the Netherlands my first country or is Italy my first country?
We believe it would be your final first destination, or where you pass through customs. Hoping for clarification on this once the form is live.
Sounds like Canada's ArriveCAN app. We had to register and be approved to enter Canada's border last summer! We actually had to give an estimation arrival time as well.
That’s a great comparison!
It's no different than the ESTA that the US requires for Europeans visiting the US. I'm surprised this didn't happen years ago.
ArriveCan is the new custom's declaration, which used to be on paper all the time. It is not the same as eTA. You need eTA to enter Canada, 7 CAD, approval can come in an instance. ArriveCan however does not ask the same questions as the eTA does. Not comparable. eTA asks if you have other citizenships and what your employment is. You can file for eTA without firm travel plans to go to Canada just to have the authorisation, however, the CBSA officer has the final word. arriveCan was designed approve only people fullfilling the health and safety requirements for entry into Canada until 2022, hence the arrival time, the custom's declaration was a pilot then and is now optional.
For those cruising round trip out of the UK it might not be required. Cruisers have a soecial status when cruising so arent considered to be crossing border control. Ie when you get off a ship you dont show your passport at each stop. So i doubt youd need an ETIAS i could be wrong though.
June 2024 i will be on my baltic cruise for 11 days
Thanks for posting this video! Question: what if my cruise begins in England at the port of Southampton, but then goes to Norway from there? Do I list Norway first since the UK is not in the EU?
Yes, as the UK is going to have their own ESTA, which you would apply for before entering the UK. my guess anyway, as we are doing the same thing in June 2024. I will check with my Travel Agent later on. So should you. Plus check the requirements on the online form way before you need to.
I’m cruising in Europe this year.
What if you just stay on the ship?
Here comes your next video on questions..... What about catching a flight connection in one those countries? I didn't see Ireland on your list, we go in April. You are right, we had to do the on line for New Zealand and Australia.
Ireland isn't in Schengen this is a schengen area rule not an EU rule there are non EU countries included like Switzerland, Iceland and Norway and some EU countries not in Schengen like Ireland.
How does this effect a b2b cruise. We r going out of nj and then doing a cruise back from Iceland to boston
Obviously the application only wants to know your first entry place.
What about connecting flights and itinerary changes? For example if I book a flight through a cruise line and I leave from America and there is a connecting flight in Germany for my destination in Italy, my first entry into Europe would be Germany and not Italy although Italy would be my first stop after the flight? Also what happens if the cruise line changes my flight itinerary after I've filled out this form? Can it be edited or will they just automatically accept the change, assuming the change affects the locations listed on the form. What happens if the cruise line changes the ports I'll visit?
Flight itineraries we’re not explicitly stated on the website at the moment. We assume this will be clear on the form but we’ll have to wait and see.
Yes I am
cruising in Europe in 2024. I had not heard about this yet, so thank you! Not worried about it. It is probably similar to online visas for individual countries. No big deal. Thanks for the info.
That’s a great response to this. It’s mandatory, supposedly fairly simple. Enjoy your 2024 travel!
Hi guys! So if traveling g to Europe let’s say in Jan 2024 you have to wait 90 days to return. So that means May nice time to visit. Then sept with the weather you really have to be great planner and organizer.
Hi Dana, Within 180 days you can enter Europe as much as you’d like for up to 90 days total. You could go 2 weeks in January, 30 days in March, 1 week in April, etc…as long as you don’t visit for more than 90 days within 180 days you’re all good.
@@JJCruise thanks for clarifying it.
Knew this was on the horizon. Only question I will have, would you have to put an in transit airport as your "first destination"
We believe your first destination would be your first final destination, but hoping the form clears this info up when it is out.
Thanks for this information. We are looking at a transatlantic cruise in May 2024 that leaves Ft. Lauderdale and goes a to Southampton. However, the first port in Europe is the Azores, followed by some other ports before we disembark in England. From your explanation, I understand that our point of entry would be Azores, Portugal? Is this a correct understanding?
I would say yes. Plus another ESTA for the UK
England (U.K.) has no involvement in this process at all. By the time you get to Southampton you will be governed entirely by U.K. entry requirements.
Thank you! Question: what if you are flying to Italy, but switching planes in Paris? Do we list France first?
If you are transferring to another flight from Paris ,France ,then France would be the first port into the European union .
