  • Scientists in the UK are trying to piece together the puzzle surrounding long-COVID - trying to find out why people suffer from the effects of COVID months or even years after they had it.
The COVID-19 pandemic was officially declared a global health crisis three years ago by the World Health Organization.
This week, the WHO said that the pandemic is not yet over. Nevertheless, many countries around the world are returning to some sort of normality. Measures such as wearing masks in public have been scrapped.
But life is far from normal for the millions of people who continue to suffer from the effects of their COVID infections months or even years after they had it. They have what’s called long COVID. One family in the UK showed us how it's has changed their lives.

The covid deniers are constantly hammering on about the low death rate.
But the huge numbers of long covid victims, many of them relatively young and of working age, is a much greater problem in the long run.

I get covid in March 2022 and have a terrible time behind me. I am male, 38 years old, don't smoke, did sport before, was vaccinated 3 times before, had no any known diseases or risks...2 weeks after getting covid my lung function was only 48%, for months I barely could stand for 1 minute before ringing for air, getting cramps all over and strong pain in my legs. For weeks I needed a chair for can shower and brush my teeth, and I was not able to walk up the steps for to reach my sleeping room in the first floor. I had to lay down and close my eyes 90% of the days and nights for to avoid strong headaches and asthma attacks (never had asthma in my life). I couldn't speak full sentences anymore and forgot basic words like gable and spoon and names of my co workers. I wasn't able to follow RUclips videos for more than maybe 10 seconds. Playing a video game or watching a movie was impossible because I couldn't follow any conversation, and if I tried I get horribly headaches. When holding a gaming controller I get cramps in my fingers after minutes or had no power to even hold it in my hand after a while. I experienced several infections in my nose, my mouth and in my testicle end of last year.
From December 2022 my condition get rapidly better by itself, and now in February 2023 it seems to be finished and I'm planning to come back to work soon.
The whole story brought me and my family into serious financial trouble already, but I'm glad to be able to just survive it and to come back to a normal life soon.

Had a fairly mild case of covid (badish flu with loss of taste and smell with a terrible headache). Lasted about 2,5 weeks. Never got really better after. Was visiting fldoctors but all state NHS doctors in the UK had no answer (GP and A&E as I felt I am having a heart attack several times as well) - was told it is all in my head once, that I am just tired as I have a child and that I have long covid but that there is no treatment apart from drinking more water. Went to a private cardiologist who suspected light pericarditis and wanted to refer me for a chest MRI but again the GP put a stop to it. After weeks of bed rest and nothing getting no better I traveled to EU where I got diagnosed with blood clots in my lungs (embolism). I am now on treatment and all is getting better. But so anxious for all the other people not getting diagnosed.
Symptoms was: farigue, heart pain, no oxygen, falling blood pressure, low blood oxygen, headache, irritability, dreams of doom, pressure on chest.

My family of 3, comprised of (2) 68 year olds and one 47, all caught Covid Alpha in January of '21 about 7 weeks before they were permitting over 65's to get the vaccine. I was 68. By the end of February they were both gone, the other 68 year old from a deep coma, and our 47 year old from a Covid related heart attack.
My regular Covid lasted 6 weeks of 24/7 stuck in the chair, a slight easing of symptoms and switched to the long Covid with all sorts of very strange symptoms, ranging from swollen body parts, extreme dizziness, and continued extreme fatigue. I saw a number of doctors who were all totally mystified by my symptoms and told me to rest completely. The extreme fatigue lasted for months of being chair bound till Christmas.
By February '22, I started back at the gym/aquatic center every day and slowly worked back to fairly decent treadmill sessions and am now recovered, fully asymptomatic, though my stamina is less than it was Precovid.
All those people who are still suffering deserve all the help they can get, and I sure feel for them! As a 70 year old guy, I am very lucky to still be alive, and be able to do my workout too. The combination of good luck and determination to hit the gym every day is how I credit my recovery. Rest assured I miss the ones I lost. One day at a time.

Bless you, I lost my father in January 22. It must have taken its toll on you going through all of that. 😔
He had a heart attack a few months after the vaccination. I have no way of knowing what killed him for sure. He had a clot on his heart. Could have been totally unrelated to the vaccine or the covid.
His health wasn't good and he was on borrowed time. Ita always going to be a huge shock losing your dad. I am 46 and feel that is a very young age to die.
This life can be so cruel and love is not always without hurt, it is the price we pay to witness such beauty.
Stay strong and well done for toughing it out. I know in my heart your family is really proud of you and still watching over you. One day you will be with them again and I am sure you can feel their love still, I can still feel my father's. He is not gone forever and never far away.
Take 4000iu of vitamin D a day, it offers 72% protection from covid and 51% protection from death. The data is conclusive. Do not take anymore vaccines the risk benefit analysis has shifted. Nac will also protect you. 🙏✌️❤️

@@bbybeatboxx Thank you for your kind words. I am guessing that your Dad was about my age. I look at all my closest who are now gone the same as you. I keep them in my heart, and every day I enjoy is in their honor. I note that our daughter was your age when she had that heart attack so age is not much protection. losing her was and remains the toughest for me.
Heart Disease is the number 1 killer in the US and the world. Most of the people my age are taking all sorts of prescription medicines of questionable value daily for all sorts of heart related things. Lots of people my age are living on borrowed time too.
So many are overweight, have high blood pressure, diabetes, all of which tend to overwhelm our bodies defenses. A disease like Covid comes along, and takes them down. That summarizes how everyone I have lost passed away. All the people I have lost had at least one of those issues and usually more.
I watched these transformations taking people down and 12 years ago and made some changes. I stopped eating all the processed foods and switched to mostly vegetables. I lost about 100 pounds over that time and kept it off. Lastly, I do that high intensity cardio every single day which gives me that runner's high. No one around me did much in the way of exercise either.
Keep your Dad in your heart and make an effort to remember all those wonderful times you share, and that will help you cope.

Feb 2020 got flu was on oxygen and bipap to sleep, had trouble swallowing. March 2020 got covid but testing not available, increased oxygen to keep pulse ox to 91 and stayed on bipap 14 hrs a day convinced would gladly die for next 8 mos. Was being seen by neurologist who said I shouldn't be so bad, got no treatment but muscle biopsies. 2021 started on Mestinon for triple sero neg MG, started regaining muscle function ,some stamina, vision cleared, breathing improved. 2022 had covid pos by test, only completely wiped for 3 mos. Recovery and relapse and not having confirmed lab tests that are disease specific feels like running uphill on sand dune, exhausted getting nowhere.

I remembered having this in 2022 after recovering from my covid symptoms. After like 2 months later, my body started to feel heavy and weak on the inside. I felt like I couldn't do much physically such as running, weightlifting and stretching. But it worsened by contracting brain fog, rapid heart beating and anxieties. That all caused certain effects such as lack of sleep, unable to pull facial muscles, difficulty in concentration and loss of taste. It felt like I could lose my mind and go insane all throughout without any warning, thus the effects kicking in roughly between a week after it settles a little. But fortunately, it lasted for a year and now I feel 100% as I was before contracting the virus. Like they said earlier, there's no cure to relieve long covid yet, but I'd recommend just try to hold out with it for a year and it'll go away. It really was a challenge surviving long covid symptoms, I just hope it doesn't affect me once more.

Lots of viruses can but they are usually very rare. In the UK all known viruses combined cause about 10,000 cases of ME/CFS a year. Covid has given well over 2.5 million people long covid in just 3 years... so the numbers are incomparable. The SARS 2003 outbreak left huge numbers with ME like syndromes, something like 30/40% of those infected, but you'll have to look it up. Of those who's cases were followed none were able to work again in their lives

Yeah, this is basically exactly what I have since early 2013 from what I know was a flu, presumably H1N1 swine flu (declared the previous pandemic by WHO and others if that is of interest). I was a rare case, but from my extensive research mostly teenagers and young adults were affected, I was the former.
Feels like I have mild ME combined with CFS-brainfog, tinnitus (the chronological coincidence indicating neurological damage).
I semi-confidently predicted long covid as my ordeal likely started from an RNA virus that was generally not lethal to anyone but the most vulnerable (basically no measures taken and still less worldwide deaths than from C19 just in the USA by end of '21).
Only silver-lining for me now is that if I persevere to the best of my abilities, an effective treatment beyond [miracle repurposed tincture X] or [diet & supplement regiment Y] will reach me with decades left to (joyfully) live. Yep, it's rather bleak at times.

Yes Long-C is post-viraL syndrome. CEBV...covid reactivates epstein barr that is dormant in 95% of the population....it becomes Chronic Epstein Barr Virus or CAEBV Chronic Active Epstein Barr Virus...which is a big part of ME/CFS...and can cause POTS symptoms and MCAS Mast Cell Activation Syndrome ...pretty much a Cytokine Storm (INFLAMMATION) throughout the body and even past the blood/brain barrier (headache, migraines, brainfog, dizziness, vestibular pain and/or dysfunction, vision blurriness, depression and horrid anxiety/panic attacks) Long-C hit people were they are weakened ......(one example if you injured an ankle,it you will flare-up where ever one had an injury and will get VERY painful inflammation and yes it got my left ankle I injured that never hurt after healing for years,BUT NOW HURTS WORSE THAN IT DID WHEN I TORE LIGAMENTS 1-YEAR INTO MY LONG-HAUL,I KNOW CRAZY,I hear this from MANY Long-Haulers and for myself I will be 2 years next month/March) .....Long-C has reactivated other viruses (in some cases more that 1) ,even LYME disease and out-remissioned people back into their autoimmune diseases...and long term viruses can sadly start new autoimmune diagnoses .... So LONG-HAUL VIRUSES are a crazy ride nobody wanted to be on ,don't know where it goes with its new painful adventures changing or when it will end,Everyone's ride is differant on this "Not So Merry Go-Round"

After the vaccine heart attack C reactive protein was normal proving no inflammation, and the cardiac catherization test with IFF found still adequate/ good ejection fraction. After the myocarditis the ejection fraction was abnormal/ poor, but left ventricle still over 50% which is a marker for outcome / time to death. From reading I understand a stable ejection fraction will predict better my life expectancy. If deteriorated by more than a few percent then poor, if stable then not so bad.

Echocardiogram, nuclear stress testing. shows my heart is strong and no indications of disease otherwise. I'm thinking my brain was damaged by covid infection, and i have autonomic nervous system function damage. Devastating fatigue, exercise worsens it to the point I am bed ridden, tachycardia, and cognitive issues going on 2 years now. Doctors have no idea what to do. I'm planning on finding an HIV AIDS clinic and see if they can find something. IDK. I'm dying a long slow torturous decline. No tests. No cure. No hope left. Used to be a skeptic but after getting the bug for a second time I've suffered for months after. Lack of appetite, tired, and very limited mental stamina. Well I'm gonna admit I was wrong all along, the virus is pretty legit. But whether it is created/a hybrid virus or just a mutation of nature is another discussion (which I am completely open for all cases). I didn't take any vaccines either for context as I didn't trust it. I'm still not sure if it would be a good idea or not to take it, how should I know how I will react to it? That's my opinion at least.
