    Altra and Topo fan here, i like bouncing from 0-5 drops, and this Wild shoe is really a nice shoe so far for me. I haven't gone on a super long run, but it's really comfortable!!!

    I'm wondering about arch support?? I just tried the Topo Pursuits and found the arch support to be excessive for me. Quite painful actually. I'm not really a runner but looking for a good shoe for hiking that has a wide toe box and a somewhat firmer rubber that won't allow me to flex my toes as much as I am naturally inclined to. I've long been a barefoot shoe person, but I have begun to experience what I believe to be flare-ups of Morton's neuroma on occasion.

      I’ve noticed the same thing with my pursuits! That arch is no joke and caused me really bad stability issues

      @fleetfeet699  8 месяцев назад

      Nate here. Are you experiencing problems from too much arch support or not enough? For me, and I've had my feet scanned at Fleet Feet a few times, I have a wider foot and slightly higher than normal arch. I tend to favor neutral shoes and I felt the Altra's weren't too much here for me. BUT that's why it's so important to get your feet scanned and fit, because it really helps you cut to the chase from a fit perspective.

    Is the sizing on the wild the same as the FWD? I was going to order the Flow but Altra likes to play with the sizing so I don’t want to order a half size too big

    • @fleetfeet699
      @fleetfeet699  9 месяцев назад

      That's a good question and I personally cannot recall how these compare fit wise to the FWD. That's why it's always best to go to your local (Fleet Feet!) store and try them on. Nate

      Pls update if you had a chance to compare. For me- fwrd was extremely short and narrow, i would call it slim fit, not standard😮

    What do you think is with the Timp 5 shoe leaning "inwards"? Maybe a pronate or under pronate addition? Seems weird Tread is great. Looks durable Maybe does not breathe like a Lone Peak?

    Nate, thank you for doing this review. Like you, long time Altra (2019) zero drop fan here and have run in many iterations of Timps, Lone Peaks and Mont Blancs and have had some considerations on trying the Experience Wild. A question as it pertains to speedy trail runs, do you think the 4mm drop could possibly be quicker than say the 0mm drop in the Carbon Mont Blanc? Do you consider 4mm enough to assist at all on inclines? Despite mixed reviews, the original Mont Blanc is one of my favorite fast trail shoes and I have said before, even on the road I thought it was faster than Atlra's Vanish Tempo. Now that the Mont Blanc has gone carbon...and pricey, I am curious if you think you could get this same pace by foregoing the carbon mont blanc and just adding 4mm of drop and getting the experience wild instead.

    • @fleetfeet699
      @fleetfeet699  8 месяцев назад

      Nate here! Good question. I personally think the benefit of carbon plated shoes only really happen on more runnable smoother terrain (smooth single track, fire roads, flatter terrain) where you can really come up to speed. I don't think anyone really benefits from a carbon plate hiking uphill...or picking their way through very rooty, rocky and technical terrain...save for the fact that perhaps the carbon plate also doubles as a rock plate for protection?
      For me, I do like running some in zero drop shoes but I do find that my feet benefit from some drop when upping my mileage, like when I'm training for an ultra. I also found that, carbon plate aside, and drop height aside, is the midsole foam being used. For me, the Experience Wild foam felt way more peppy, responsive and good for performance than say the Lonepeak or the the Timp.
      If you can, I'd get into your nearest store (Fleet Feet!) and try them on if you can and LMK what you think.

      No. It's small. Altra is everywhere with sizing and it's annoying as hell. I wear a 10 in their Torins, a 10.5 in their vanish tempo and 11 in the timp 5.

      @@BloopsnBleeps it's terrible in fact, you are totally right. I got Timp 4 and 9.5 was perfect, then Timp 5 at 9.5 was way too big, Olympus 5 - had to get it in 10, as 9.5 was way too small! go figure.

    I appreciate the comparison between the Timp and the Experience Wild as I'm considering both of these shoes! Nate, how did the Experience Wild perform during your 50K race?

    • @fleetfeet699
      @fleetfeet699  8 месяцев назад +2

      Nate here: my race went great! (www.strava.com/activities/11183938852). The gorge had a lot of steep, twisty and technical terrain. I experienced zero blisters and had excellent traction throughout. Plus plenty of cushioning and foot protection to feel like I could pick up the pace towards the end. I'd definitely race in these again.

    Horrible shoe build. I call Altra the "dollar per mile" trail shoe.
    I have utterly no idea how Altra are in business based on their garbage shoe build quality.

      @bugpack6 I call them the dollar per mile shoe and when you get to what you paid they are blown out and floppy and torn and unglued and the lugs are flat. HORRIBLE build! I have run ultras since 2010 live in CO and cannot stand their shoes. I've given them so so many chances since lone peak 1. Disgusting what the charge for trash build quality IMO.
      I'm glad you like them though. I truly am. I see them in races all the time and it makes me scratch my head.

    • @ultrajayme

      @weuek I'm not dissing the idea or shape of Altra in a general sense. I'm dissing their offensive, garbage sub par build quality that has gotten so bad over the years.
      Altra shoes actually truly only fit a specific type of foot planting runner. The vast majority of all humans pronate or supinate. The number of people who have a naturally aligned gate with direct foot plant and mid foot strike is very low in comparison.
      Also the majority of people who wear a zero drop shoe, forget about Altra specifically, do not know how to even run properly. Altra are all around too wide for the average foot volume....but yeah those colors!!! They do a great job of making everyone think it's the proper shoe for them.
      On the flipside, I do agree with you about an overly narrow shoe shape and overly cushioned shoe. That's just as bad for a variety of reasons!

    • @weuek
      @weuek 6 месяцев назад

      @@ultrajayme Everyone's got their own experience to rely on (hopefully). Mine tells me that, for my foot shape, gait and everything, the only other option than Altra is Topo. Choice closed. And I do not wear shoes down prematurely-never had an issue with any shoe (any brand) breaking down. I'd say my foot is slim, but definitely NOT the Egyptian type.
