This is the greatest short program of all time. Triple axel, a triple loop combo, Lutz+Flip+Loop in the same Short Program, and most importantly artistry UNMATCHED. Nothing better. The pinnacle of skating. And yes, I am saying that in the year 2021. I am sorry the judges are not on the same page.
I remember watching her skate at the capital indoor stadium in 2015, the moment she stepped onto the ice , she just immediately stood out from the other skaters and took your breath away with her postures her lines her smoothness her incredible skating skills, especially her fabulous back position, truly remarkable.
Mao is such a versatile artist.She can be an elegant fairy in her Chopin programs ; meanwhile,she is also a divine heroine in her Rachmaninoff No.2. She can bring out the pure joy,energy of I Got Rhythm,and she manages to draw the audience here with her mature expression and charisma. Plus, that step sequence is SUPERB.
Everything about this program is until today unmatched. The spins, her musicality,just everything works so cohesive. She doesn't perform she IS the performance
Honestly, this should’ve broken her previous world record. Easily could’ve received more GOE despite the underrotations and edge call on her other elements (especially that flawless step sequence). And again, what is with the ridiculously underscored PCS? If Yuna was receiving 9’s and 10’s at 2014 Sochi, Mao should’ve been too (not hating Yuna of course, she’s my second favorite). Apparently the judges must be blind or something because they can’t see true artistry even when it’s right in front of their face. Mao Asada is a true queen of figure skating ❤
Mao was the class of the field today. Except for that Lo UR and the Lz edge, she went for an all triple SP, great to see her still pushing to be better. Perhaps that Lz should be changed for a 3S, that edge is not quite there yet. Interesting 'cause it looked better at JO, at most an "!" there but definitely an "e" here. Still, beautiful spins and step sequence, as always. A great start for Mao :)

I wonder if she's capable of rotating a triple toe in the flip combo instead of the UR-prone loop and then have a solo loop instead of the lutz. She'd probably score in the high 70's- low 80's if she can do that. And i agree, the edge on her lutz wasnt so egregiously bad to necessitate an "E" and -3's from so many judges. Id probably give her an "!" as well. If ashley wagner gets "!" on her lutz, I think Asada should as well.
Yea. And she could do what Wagner does on the lutz: continually work on the edge, and just put it in as an "experimental" solo jump in the latter half of the long program.
The triple flip-triple loop was SO close. I wish they'd give hard combinations that are only slightly more than a quarter cheated more of a benefit of the doubt... I know I may be in the minority, but triple-triples are so much harder than regular solo jumps.

Can someone more familiar with the technical elements of skating explain why Mao's jump combinations are so fluid; i.e., she just sorta twists her ankle instead of bending her knee and re-repelling into the air? She always seems to do that and it's amazing... It's like she doesn't land. The commentators seem not to comment on that quality, which, as a spectator, I'd think would set her apart a bit... Only other skater I've seen do that is Shizuka Arakawa.
Because her combination is Triple Flip+Tiple Loop, the majority of the skaters do the combination with the Triple Toeloop as second jump. It isn't better quality, simply she does different jump as second jump of combination, so it has a different take off. But the Triple Loop is more difficult then the Triple Toeloop (Triple Loop base value: 5.10, Triple Toeloop base value: 4.30)
VA But there's something about her Loop in combo that's more, like, effortless than other skaters (with the exception of Arakawa, at least off the top of my head). Is it more speed/control? I'd guess a low body weight helps but there're many Ladies skaters as thin as Asada and Arakawa...
this is a bit late but i know what you mean, she doesnt wait long before she jumps her 2nd jump in a combo and it doesn’t look laboured or as if she’s trying really hard.. i.e looks like she just propelled herself up from minimal effort - at least to a spectators eyes like me. she was the first female skater from japan i liked and followed and i was actually quite sad the trajectory her career took. felt like no other girls in japan came close to her in terms of jumps or other components til rika kihira now, who has a drastically different style - more athletic but to me is sort of the new coming/wave of great jp skaters after mao
@@virginiajackson5620 a clean program with 4 triple including 3A diserves above 80 for mao's skating skills and pcs quality it should been at least 87 -88 ,even with ur and e she still should've received 79 -78 ,it was underscored, to much actually.
I really wish that they had not changed the rules to allow vocals in the music because the instrumental portions of this program were subtle yet really striking. The choreography during the portions with vocals was fine but the vocals in the music were a distraction IMO. That said, it's shame that she ditched the 3/3 in favor of using the 3Loop as her single triple jump and as a result, heavily downgraded her difficulty and scoring potential.

ステップの時の氷への吸いつき方が凄すぎるし、難しい動きをしても全くぶれてないのも凄い
25歳でこの構成滑ってる事が驚異的
休養から復帰して引退するまでの数シーズンは、難易度を保ったまま技術が円熟していくという奇跡のような期間だったと思う。
本人は怪我やモチベーションの低下で大変だったと思うけど、頑張ってくれたからこそこのように美しい演技が動画に残って今でも見られるという幸せを享受できる。

そもそもジャンプに加点がつかないのは流れや飛距離がないからと言われて何年もかけて矯正したのに、今もトップ選手のフルッツは見逃されがちですし、癖強ジャンプでも凄いGOEが出ますよね。今の選手達も好きですけど、時々真央ちゃんのことを思い出して複雑になります。

ザギトワとかトゥルソワとかのエテリ組がトリプルアクセル無のルッツループで80を超えられるのであれば真央ちゃんのトリプルアクセル有からのルッツループじゃないけどフリップループ跳んでそっからルッツの方が圧倒的に点数出る。

この3-3が回転不足というのが当時もそうだったし今見ても理解不能。真央ちゃんいじめが途中から本当にひどかった。正当な点数つけたら誰も敵わないからだと思うけど。
紀平さんの3Aが歴代のアクセル跳んだ選手の中で一番うまいなんて言うコメントよくみるけど、紀平さんのアクセルこそジュニアの頃から回転不足が気になってたけど、なぜかいつも見逃しなんだよね。ほんとなんで？？シニアに入っても回転足りてないのにメディアは大絶賛だし。
真央ちゃんのアクセルほど軸が細くて形が綺麗で高さがあって入る姿勢も綺麗なアクセル跳べる子はいないと最近のティーン選手の3A見て思います。
真央を持ち上げるのに紀平を下げるなよ、他選手下げすることでしか真央を評価できないの、本人にも失礼なことに気づけないマヲタマジで害悪すぎる。
そして紀平のアクセルは足りてない時はしっかり刺されてる、回りきってる時はしっかり評価されてる、あんたらが望んでたジャッジじゃねーの？

継ぎ目がない、エレメンツが音楽表現にしっかりなっている。
この辺は意識の問題で、残念ながら、若い選手はこれができない。
ステップに関しては、この人の天性のものなので、超えるのは無理。
本人はジャンパーだと思ってるようだが、おおよそ間違いなく、細かいステップに関しては、歴代でもトップに入るかどうかの論争に入る選手なので。
ジャンプのＵＲはしょうがないかな。今の基準で点数が出にくい選手なので。
