The thing about adding Gibson is you have to figure out if you have enough physical space for the 147 different Slash models.
It’s getting over done in my opinion
I totally agree with you about the Slash obsession. Every time it gets cloudy outside I assume that Gibson is going to release a new Slash model.
No sh*t!!! I complain about all the time
@@guillermourrutia2159 dude I love Slash but I absolutely agree. When I was a kid in the 90’s all I wanted was a Slash model now not so much. Just over kill.
@@jaybe813 That’s because Gibson apparently sells the shit out of them.
You know, one thing that I don’t see anyone discussing in the comments is that you guys are taking time out of your day to brag on gear that you’re not even able to sell. That screams “we love music and it’s not about the money”, and that’s freakin admirable. I’m about 2 hours south of you guys, and I’m going through chemo right now, but as soon as I’m done, I’m 100% coming up to visit, because you just seem like great dudes, first and foremost!
Hey Wyatt! Prayers up bro, may this next year be the best year you’ve ever had! Last year lost half my left kidney to renal cell carcinoma and this year had basal cell carcinoma on my jaw. No chemo luckily. You got this man kick its ass!
@@mknewlan67 keep fighting brother
Just my 2 cents. I think the brands you carry also affect the image and perceptions you want of your shop. You have to choose carefully. For instance, Schecter makes great guitars, but their image and marketing scream metal, but they make some great models that are more traditional, but don't really push them.
That is super true:) great points!
@@CasinoGuitars One of THE best playing guitars I have is a PT Custom Shop, and that may be your "door" into Schecter - buying Made in the USA custom shop models of a more traditional body style. Also, you are on point about Dr Z, Collings, Ibanez Artcores, ... .say, you guys seem to know your stuff. One of these days, I gotta drive down to Southern Pines.
Schecter is way more than metal. Their T and S style guitars are incredible and they seemingly make something for every price point
I agree with you on some of their models, but their marketing and imaging lean towards metal, IMHO. FWIW, I do own 2 Schecters, 10+ year old PT and Solo 6, so not disparaging them.
Having been to Casino guitars, the shop is beautiful as well as the town. It has a boutique feel which fits perfect into the same feel as the town. If they decided to carry good but non custom or boutique style guitars would change the feel of the shop into more of a normal guitar shop that has everything… I think that would be a mistake..
Eastman guitars are terrific guitars and great value.
Knaggs of course. Actually, Schecter makes some great guitars, and some of their models are their take on some classic designs, but they’re generally selling to a different demographic (metal shredders). I also wouldn’t kick an Orange amp out of bed for eating crackers.
Carr Amplifiers are phenomenal. I have owned the Skylark and Mercury V. Wonderful small combos and the built-in attenuators sound great. Most importantly - Steve Carr and his team are the nicest people and always take the time to answer all my stupid question emails.
Absolutely LOVE my Carr Mercury (original 8 watt version). Single channel but extremely versatile. And the spring reverb is the best I've ever heard. Just might be my forever amp.
Thumbs up for the coffee mug!
I appreciate what you said at the end about wanting to be very knowledgeable about what you have. You folks always know the answers to my questions and share that knowledge in an easy to understand way. I've gotten interested in Tone King amps recently and I like their build quality and sound. I know they are a bit quirky, but if you wanted to add another amp line, they might be worth checking out. Thanks!
Godin/Art & Lutherie make some amazing affordable acoustics. Beautiful finishes and made in Canada.
I think you should carry Bad Cat amps. They have several models that do Fender, Marshall, and Vox sort of things. They have the USA Player Series that's a nice PCB version that are less expensive than Fender's assembly line amps, they have a proper handmade point-to-point handwired line, and a custom shop. And they don't have a dealer in NC.
Baxter went 3rd person right out of the gate on this one! 🤟🏻
This video has helped me understand what my local shops here in Memphis go through. I appreciate y'all making this video.
Memphis in the house. Man I seriously make a trip to reVolve once a week. Geoff can get or has anything you need. There is a ton of high end gear floating around Memphis.
@@dingusfuzzklonnkt2755 Totally agree about Geoff's abilities, heck he even helped me sell a guitar on consignment once. I don't get up to Bartlett as much as I do Poplar & N. Belvedere (you know the place) though.
Larrivee guitars are terrific and not a lot of shops carry them.
+1 For carrying Larrivee.
Yes they are! I love my Larrivee. It’s a great guitar.
They don't make that many. I went into a dealership in London (well, right on the edge of London) and he told me they don't make that money and when one sells, they don't get another for months.
Taylor and Martin should be grateful that not many people have had the chance to play a Larrivee. They are the king of acoustics
Bought a Collings D-1 almost a year ago, it's a perfect instrument and I actually use it. a great example of a pre-war martin D-18.
Swart are made in NC by Michael Swart.
Very nicely made and affordable for a hand wired, point to point amplifier. The reverb and trim on his 45 watt head is fantastic!!! Great pedal format. If you are wanting an amplifier that will play CLEAN, check out Swart. He makes a variety of combos and several head designs.
Takamine has a superb line-up...$250 student models all the way to the $3000+ Pro Series (Made in Japan)...even 2-3 Thin-Lines...Very good values IMO :)
So glad y’all mentioned Carr amps. I have an Impala and Mercury V and they are truly amazing. Keep up the good fight brothers.
Played my 2013 Les Paul Traditional through a Carr amp at a jam about 4 years ago, it was incredible. Creamy tone with tons of sustain while allowing the tonal characteristics of my guitar to shine through the on stage mix. Great amplifier.
So..... Love is Blind = Dr. Z amps & you'd like to have Collings, but you have to set aside time for Shake Weight competition practice. It adds up.
I love how Novo guitars look & people I respect swear by them. I think those opinions have to be taken with a grain of salt, simply because anytime someone lays out that kind of cash, on a custom built instrument, the confirmation bias is incredibly strong to justify the purchase. I wouldn't buy one without playing it first. I'd make a special trip over just to try them out.
Same for the Carr Amps. I'd love to support a local builder, through a local shop. Currently the only way I can put my hands on one is second hand or order online from out of state. I appreciate his bandwidth issues, but I'm not sure why there wouldn't be more of a focus on keeping inventory in local stores.
PRS is another one I'd like to see in more places. People may consider the core line dad rock guitars, but they're inredibly well made, with consistent QC. We have one shop right up the road, in Winston Salem, that stocks them, but the selection isn't great and never has been since they came to town. They also presold their entire Silver Sky SE inventory on Reverb, which is pretty lame. It's not like they wouldn't have sold in the store. I understand it's a business, but It's really hard to support a shop who wants hometown loyalty, but makes zero effort to serve the musicians who actually spend money in their brick and mortar location. That makes them no different than Guitar Center, in my mind.
Swart, Milkman and Tone King amps are all monsters. Eastman is making amazing Gibson-style electrics, top-shelf acoustics, and hitting a fantastic price point. Rickenbacker is cool, but I have no idea if they're a good business partner for a shop of your size. Ernie Ball is making some killer guitars right now, too.
Maybe look at your friends from the north, Godin. Excellent instruments and prices.
I think Duesenberg guitars are wonderful. Fell in love with them at the NAMM show many years ago.
They look really distinctive obviously, but sound really generic...
I think their designs are fantastic, and their execution is good……for what it is. Long story short the way they are built is directly in line with the higher end of Korean made guitars. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but they’re deceptive in their marketing and cost. They use poly finishes and the bodies are manufactured for Duesenberg in Korea and shipped to Germany. They don’t like to advertise this, they’d rather have people assume they are hand built in Germany. Now, they DO use premium pickups and parts, they are very well assembled, and dressed, and the QC is good. But realistically these should be priced in the $1000-$1500 range. They are built alongside the Gretsch synchromatic line, PRS SE’s, and Reverend guitars, but are priced $1000 more. That’s what’s disingenuous about them.
Mario Martin Guitars! I have 2 and 1 ordered. Can’t say enough good about them. Downside is the 18 month wait!
Interesting and enjoyable, as always. I love that half of each video is you guys talking about stuff that has nothing to do with guitars.
Carr amps are amazing. The Sportsman is an amazing amp!! Well they all are really!
Inexpensive _and_ good - Reverend guitars.
love that cup though
Interesting topic.
Nice to see Ibanez Artcore stuff get some love.
I've had a sunburst AS73 335 type since '07. It's a good guitar.
We need a video about Baxter's hair and Jonathan's beard!
Larrivee - acoustic
Suhr - electric
Swart - amp (made in NC)
Suggest looking at Guild acoustic guitars for those who can't afford, or don't want to take out a loan for a Collings, Martin or Taylor. Guild DS 240 Memoir Vintage Sunburst in $550 price range, with your favorite strings, will surprise you.
I also never drink coffee (generally a cup about once a decade for warmth) and have never smoked. Baxter isn't alone.
This video is the reason why I bought a Carr Raleigh. I want to be mad at y'all for telling me about Carr Amps, but it just sounds so damn sweet!
Have a Carr Telstar. Great amp and is built very well. Cool mid-century modern look.
I always figured that since you guys have such a great relationship with the Fender custom shop you'd be a Jackson custom shop dealership, considering they're in the same family and in the same facility. I'd feel really comfortable placing a Jackson CS order with you guys because of your relationship with Fender.
the Sire H7 that I purchased is a very affordable, nice guitar ... may not have much profit margin but would open more options for customers; no coffee - but tea? there has to be a caffeine drip line installed somewhere ...
Oh man, if money was no object I would love a Collings 02H. Those are some amazing guitars.
I love my Tone King Imperial, sounds amazing, easy to use and by far the best attenuator I have ever used. I was going to buy a Fender combo amp ( Princeton, Deluxe) and hook up an attenuator to it but I got the exact sounds I was looking for in this amp with an amazing attenuator built in.
Just had the power tranny blow in my TK unfortunately About 8 months but only 20 hours of actual playing time Not sure if I'm gonna stick with TK or not Will see
@@paulcowart3174 Sorry to hear that. I have not had any issues with mine so far.
Always keep a few Rickenbacker's in the shop. I rarely use my tubes any longer when practicing since solid state heads or pedals work fine. I keep the tubes for live shows.
Dude...no coffee ever?? 😱 OMG bro we gotta talk.. 😂...I'd perish
How about carrying Suhr or Tom Anderson? Nice NC plug. I have a video idea. If you could only play/use instruments built in and from one state, which state wins? I'd pick California. Fender, Music Man, Taylor, Tom Anderson, Suhr, Friedman, Keisel, DW, Mesa and list goes on and on.
I wholly agree with Collings. Also B&G Guitars would be awesome since they offer something a little different spec wise and are beautiful to look at
Great work Gentlemen. Awesome video content!!
Frank Brother's guitars here in Canada
Congrats on breaking 40k subs, boys!
Since you mentioned CARR amps, now I’ve been checking them out……. I think I like the Mercury 5 😎
What is this BS anyway??👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻
I have a friend with a Carr amp and it really is a great amp (that particular one is very Fender Deluxey) I do have a Schecter Tele and it’s quite good so I’d say yeah to them
Love Guild acoustic electric guitars
Great video guys!
I'll check out Love is Blind....dated 3 months and engaged and married 3 months later. Six months and going on over 30 years. We also spend hours on the phone before we ever dated due to different shifts. What I would give to own a Magnatone...
Duesenburg guitars look pretty sweet I never got to play one but Toms Session Man model is beautiful.
Buk makes any guitar sound great! But they are pretty cool looking guitars
Gibson amps- I love my 1960 GA-79. I've owned it since '65 or so.
If you want headless guitars just get Gibsons……. and wait.
That beard almost reaching its goal of hiding that beer belly!
Just kidding around guys, love the show and the bear.
You guys should carry Takamine acoustic guitars. Surprised this company flies under radar considering they are used by artists from Garth Brooks to Bruce Springsteen, including a signature Glenn Frey guitar. I’ve owned three an have been very happy with them.
I like the ToneKing Imperial MKII amps. And Canada’s Godin Brand offers great selection and guitars for the cost.
I don’t have an opinion. You guys need to carry what you want.
I’m always looking at new guitars but I’m not really shopping. (know what I mean?)
I have my ‘59 reissue ES-335 which suits me but my eye is sorta open for a solid body at some point.
Great cup john! And baxter I never had a cigarette either
I play a Dr. Z (I love my amp) and I'm buying a Novo 🤣 .. maybe I'll stop by the shop one day and let yall check it out... one brand I'd love to see there to give em a try would be divided by 13 amps
I agree that collings are just incredible. They were never an affordable guitar but their price increases over the past few years are pricing ppl out who maybe would spend an extra 1500 or so instead of a martin.Eastman acoustic and electric guitars are pretty good at a more affordable price from overseas.
I recently went to a store to pick up a Collings D1A Traditional (my second Collings) and tried out a few Eastman acoustics while I was waiting around. They aren't anywhere close to in the same league, and the price reflects that. This coming from a happy Eastman SB59-V owner so I don't have the typical bias that most of the anti-Eastman crowd has.
@@bradswanson6788 completely agree! As a collings om2h owner I consider them in the "big leagues" for sure. Honestly kicking myself for not grabbing a collings built Dreadnought before the used prices exploded. Just saying it would be tough for some to go for the upcharge over a Martin and I've been impressed with the eastmans I've played at their price point.
If you don’t carry Schecter I would recommend, the products built in Korea are outstanding, The company has a good Q/A on imported guitars before they go out to a dealer.
I have a Cali Jazz that’s amazing , didn’t have to donate my left nut to science lol
I've never tried a Carr amp.... But I have used Bad Cat (awesome dirty tones)like a Mesa Boogie without 75 settings and affordable & DR. Z (fantastic all around and known for country & twangy Rockabilly)- can't go wrong with either of them. Schecter guitars would be a great choice- to me they were PRS before PRS came around.
You absolutely need to get the EVH line!!! I have a Les Paul...I have a Telecaster...I have a Fender electric -acoustic. My EVH WOLFGANG is the most amazing sounding and playing guitar I've had since my first guitar....a Gibson SG!!!!
Awesome video as always. Friendly suggestion, it would be cool if y’all started carrying Reverend Guitars. Cheers!
Harmony! I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a H650 amp they make and I think only a random store in Charlotte sells them and they aren’t in stock online anywhere.
Loud and clear, only coffee enemas. 👍
I have a Carr Raleigh and it’s amazing.
How about some of the higher end Yamaha guitars . They probably make some of the best 1000 to 2000 acoustics and are perfect for people who aren’t ready to spend Taylor or Martin money yet . Also some the revstars look great too . All I see in the shops that carry Yamaha are the 200 starter type. They are great no doubt. The Japanese Yamahas can go toe to toe with Martin, Taylor, and Gibsons that cost two to three times as much . Guild makes a fine flat top as well getting past the entry models at least .
It is hard for me to say what you should carry, because what I own is basically what you carry, and a number of my guitars are very old and I have no idea what their current builds are like, for example, my main acoustic guitar is a late 70s Ovation Balladeer. I have no idea what Ovations are like now. Ditto my Jackson, which is a made in Japan Dinky from 2004. My bass is an Ibanez a fantastic instrument. My amps are Fender and Vox. I am saving up for an Orange Rockerverb. I played one in a shop and really liked it.
Love my Z Wreck Jr from Dr.Z amps!
Taylor’s are every bit as good as new Martins. IMO. Hey guys have you played the Taylor 324ce? Mohagany top all solid wood? I just bought one. Do you like the sound? It’s a beautiful guitar and to me it sounds terrific but then you are the experts. Thanks!
How bout Mojotone amps? I love my 15-watt Blackout. Plus they're neighbors of yours. As for Carr, had a chance to play one at GC KNoxville and was prepared to be very impressed. I was not. Not sure why, but it didn't sound good to me. On to acoustics: I second the motion on Huss and Dalton. In addition, Santa Cruz guitars are absolutely marvelous but I can see where it'd be hard to carry more than a few brands of boutique acoustics. Interesting vid this morning. And almost no TV or movie references.
⚓️ Thanks Casino 😎
Collings are great!
The biggest revelation is never having a cup of coffee.
Congrats on breaking 40k Subs!
Thanks a bunch!!! The climb has been fun and rather amazing:)
I highly recommend the Dusky Electronics D2O. It is also a North Carolina company.
I think you should carry G&L because I know how much a fan you are of there headstock.
I like Guild guitars what the chances?
Schecter does make some really nice guitars, and I don't play much metal, I just really like their stuff. I can't speak to their cheaper guitars, but their Diamond Series guitars are really nice guitars. I have 2 Schecter Tempest Customs and a PT Apocalypse in translucent green open pore finish, which they called rust grey, but it isn't grey haha. I put a Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz set in my white Tempest Custom and it is my main player. Awesome guitar.
I bought a C-5 Bass back in 2005ish. I love everything about it. It was my first dealing with Schecter and I was blown away.
So close and then came up the shake weight. I think they offer a shake weight with a gel grip.
Interesting video! What brands of effects do you carry?
Had a Carr Raleigh, GREAT amp!
I partially agree about Vox: not overly fond of modern Vox amps but I love my Vox AC30 tb6 which is still from the Korg era.
I have an even better idea than carrying newer brands.
I say you guys build a time machine and go back various points in time and procure famous guitars.
Baxter could go back and convince Robert Johnson to give up his Selmer, and Jonathan could go back to the John Mayall sessions and abscond with the Beano.
Or maybe both of you guys could pop in at the Rubber Soul recordings and take off with Harrison’s Rickenbacker.
Now THAT would be some stock to carry . . .or keep for your own enjoyment.
Wait! Now that I think about it, have you guys already done that?
Can I have a JR autographed Don't Tread On Me mug? I would appreciate a notarized COA with it too. 🙏
Bobbleheads in back look like Jonathan delivering a Elbow to Baxters Head, a celebrity Death match perhaps in the works ?
Really digging my Milkman amp. Just saying.
Novo got my pocketbook on fiyaaaaah!
Haar guitars from the Netherlands. Fender custom shop quality at 1/3 of the price. They do amazing relics as well !
Love my Carr Telstar!
What about carrying Heritage as an alternative to Gibson? Not sure what the business side is, but the guitars sound good.
Ok Boys, how about German built guitars like Nic Huber or Canna guitars? Or possibly Crooks, Nash or Tom Anderson?
Boucher guitars from Quebec, Canada are amazing.
Most importantly is to carry brands CG can stand behind. How many shops sold stuff that maybe wasn’t the best fit for a player but had a large profit margin? Tough line for any retailer to walk, but we have faith in the good folks at CG. Another great topic, thanks guys
To quote Joe Dirt "It Ain't what you like, it's the consumer". If all you stand behind are snakes and sparklers, you'll never go anywhere. A sales associate can express their love for snakes and sparklers, but if I want spleen splitters and honky lighters, it's in the best interest of the ship to oblige :D.
Alaska is the best! (IMHO) Looking forward to seeing you play up here in August.
Heratige Guitars would be a good one to carry.
for some reason i suspect Gibson would not like that...
i LOVE my Heritage guitars, plus they are awesome folks. they will pick up the phone if you call them and build anything you ask.
The politics of guitars! There’s a video topic!
Ltd/esp are a must if you don’t carry. Them and PRS are killing the 600 to 1200 range and seem to offer the best of Far East made quality available here in the US
I've never had a coffee either. I like it how Junkies get mad when you laugh at them for lining up for their morning fix.
wouldn't?, drank black, daily 2 cups(4 oz) not only increases male performance(yes, that kind), it is GOOD for circulation, amd acts as one of the best filters for your body, you can drink daily. The problem, is people use it before they need it, and in excess, almost everytime. Adenosine, the "tired chemical" your body produces to make you go to sleep, is blocked by caffeine, making you feel more alert amd energetic as you get a break from the former building up in your system. Rushing this cycle, creates a higher response of the sleep chemical, creating a caffeine junky.
Speaking of NC brands, ever had a chance to check out Dusky Amps/ pedals in Durham? My old band rented one to record our EP (in Carrboro) and the studio owner straight up bought the amp after our session.
Ernie Ball/Music Man guitars...American made, high quality, and their QC is incredible...plus their bolt on necks don't come apart...I'm looking at you PRS...
