She so wanted "Molly" to be a hit that she took the advice of a psychic/numerologist who promised her success if she dropped the "e" from her first name. "Molly" was not a success and the "e" came back immediately after. Also note that David Susskind fired Kaye from the "Lovers and Other Strangers" movie and replaced her with Bea Arthur. Kaye Ballard was a terrific performer who did not always have the best of luck.
I agree. She pushed things over the top quite often, 85% of the time she was grounded and real, but there was a lot of inorganic and silly mugging. I loved her singing voice tho!!

She had her moments, but I always thought she tried too hard to be funny.
I saw her live twice, and she had me in stitches. A very funny and talented lady.
