  • At this Lab Notes event we hear from Prof Stephen Wharton, Prof Kurt De Vos and Dr Steve Quinn from our Yorkshire Research Network. Our speakers share insights from their work studying the brain using microscopes. The event is chaired by Dr Katy Stubbs from Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Prof Stephen Wharton from University of Sheffield talks about the different brain changes pathologists see, and how this relates to the clinical dementia symptoms that we see. Prof Kurt De Vos from University of Sheffield shared his research into frontotemporal dementia, and the links between brain connections and recycling systems that could be contributing to the disease. Dr Steve Quinn from University of York described the cutting edge microscope technology he uses to monitor interactions of individual molecules and what this can teach us about dementia.

My mother and grandmother died of altzheimers. I am interested to see if the uk opinion is in line with some of USA neurologists who claim lifestyle is a major reason for the growth in Altzheimers.
