Short Round is the greatest kid character ever put to film, hands down. That little kid rescued Indy multiple times. He deserved to be in more than one Indiana Jones movie...
If that is the case Sharkie626, then why was the first thing he did was attempt to get rid of the guard’s cape? The cape got caught under the crusher, and he probably figured that he could save him if he ditched the guy’s cape.
There are many whips, ropes and string cloth in this movie. 1. Bad guy hung by whip and ceiling fan 2. Bad guy's string turban getting caught in grinder 3. The rope suspension bridge 4. The whip to reel Willie in at the end.
Nah, he had it coming. He tried to do the same to Indy and you can guarantee that had Indy saved him, the would have kept wailing on him. I mean, he was about to throw a rock on Indy's head the moment Indy hit him with the water buckets. Ok, maybe this guy was under the control of that mind altering juice, but he oversaw the capture and enslavement of children. He whipped them and beat them and whilst it's never shown, I bet some of them died. Anyone who does that to a kid deserves death, and a nasty one at that.
This scene is why Short Round is my fav Indy sidekick. When some random Chinese kid is a better successor to Indy than his actual son. The part when they are both punching at the same time with the theme song, so epic.
When you notice for the first time that the guard has true fear in his eyes and tries to get Indy to help, and Indy does make an effort, which ends up being futile, you kinda feel bad for the guy
It took me this long to realize, but if Indy really wanted to kill him, he could've kicked him into the rock crusher. But instead he actually tries to pull him out.
Fun Fact: This scene was filmed using a stunt double. Earlier, during the scene where an assassin tried to strangle Indy in his room, when he flipped the assassin over him, his back herniated. Harrison continued filming but eventually had to fly back to America to receive surgery. So while doing that, they used a stunt double to film this fight scene. Then six weeks later, Harrison came back and they filmed the close up shots.

I just noticed in Temple of Doom, the Thuggee overseer, as he's being pulled into the rock crusher, is saying roughly the same thing the sacrificial lamb was saying when he first appeared. Lamb: (As the Thuggees are bringing him to Mola Ram) "Mujhe Bachao!" Translates to "Save me!" Overseer: (After realizing his sash is caught in the rock crusher) "Bachao! Mujhe Bachao! Nahin! Nahin! Bachao! Nahin! Bachao!" Translates to "Help! Save me! No! No! Help! No! Help!" Damn...typing this comment actually depressed me a bit.

When I was 6, I walked into the living room and my friend and his family were watching this scene from the movie. When I saw the bad guy get flatened I was horrified. It took me 8 years to willingly watch a movie that wasn’t rated G or animated.
My brother was obsessed with Indiana Jones as a kid and made me sit through this scene literally hundreds of times. I'm pretty well desensitized to it by now.
Allow me to clear up "Indy didn't try to save him argument" since nobody pays attention. If you look closely after the guy's scarf-like drape is caught in the crusher, you can see Indy trying to grab the front end of the drape in order to save him. Indy tried to save the guy but it was of no use. The rope had to have been a last ditch attempt but even he was not strong enough to save the man who tried to kill him. It's not like Indy left him to die or tried to have him end up dead, he was trying to save someone's life no matter how evil that guy was. RIP Pat Roach, the actor who played the bad guy in this scene.
Did you know that the majority of the fight scene between Indy and the Thugee was done with a stunt double while Harrison Ford was injured during this time. They did the best they could with him from behind and from a distance.
The start of this fight scene (not shown, sadly) is perfect: Indy and the bruiser get tipped onto the conveyer belt, the camera pulls back....and reveals the rock crusher, and you know exactly where this is gonna end.
RIP Pat Roach 1937-2004 I'll let you fans decide what's more gruesome: being chopped by the plane propeller or squashed by the rock crusher? Oh yes, and he was General Kael in Willow.
Harrison Ford is fighting Pat roach again who was the German mechanic by the flying wing plane in raiders of the lost ark, roach also fought Sean Connery as James bond in 1983's never say never again
And Pat Roach was also the same actor who, on Willow (1988), was wearing the skull mask and then Val Kilmer's character who I can't say the name, stabbed him two times with two different swords and threw him off from a distance to his death. Roach always seems to die brutal deaths of such demeanor.
1:48 I always liked the idea that the chief guard was under the black sleep’s influence, and that was what woke him up, only for him to be crushed to death
Fun fact the actor who played the chief guard is the same guy who played the German mechanic Indy fought in the first film his name is Pat Roach before he did acting he was a British professional wrestler it’s a shame he’s dead only 67 years old may he rest in peace
Very Dark Theory about the Slave Driver: He was under the spell of Kali and the shock from the realisation he was about to die a horrible death made him snap out of it. Indiana Jones, Realising this, Tried to save his life but failed.
Just realized The Last Crusade was incredibly lacking in the Indy fistfight department, although watching him repeatedly slam the SS guy’s face into the tank turret was equally gratifying in itself.
This movie has some of the funniest moments mixed with the most brutal violence ever. It was a crazy mix. I love the back-and-forth shot of Indy and Short Round beating up their foes. This was a guy's movie all the way and nothing was held back for reasons of not offending someone.
This is my favourite moment out of the entire Indi saga, nothing like watching your favourite hero struggle until death and then the Theme song kicks in at the perfect moment, I'm like, go on Indi' lad, go on son!
The voodoo doll part is so crazy. I remember watching this on HBO when I was five. It’s still great, even when it’s bad. There’s a grossness and grit you don’t see today.
Fun fact- at 1:17 you can see the porcelain dental bridge Harrison Ford has that replaced his upper front teeth. Metal seen on the back side. He knocked his teeth out acting in a western maybe 2 decades prior. He overzealously threw his gun during his death scene and it bounced back and knocked his teeth out.
Harrison Ford's screams just moments before being saved by short round always makes me so nervous of him dying, regardless how many times I've seen this. He's one of the best actors of that time and I'll fight anyone that says otherwise.
The giant Thuggee Chief is played by Pat Roach, who also played the German mechanic fighting with Indy near the plane in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). It was meant to be something of a running joke in the series to have Roach's character fight with Indy and always losing, but his role in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) was largely cut, and he died before Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) was made.
It’s kinda sad Indy never knows how many times Short Round saved him… he probably just thinks Shorty is messing around the whole time hence why we never see Short Round on another adventure 😭
He’s a big and strong guy. But he’s still human and he knows he is no match for that rock crusher. Just because someone is bigger and stronger than you doesn’t mean he’s immortal and that’s basically what I see in this scene. The biggest one in the Thugee cult was the most threatening one of them all. But that rock crusher comes in and is just like “what’s up”.
Why do I feel like “ License to Kill” was inspired by this scene because in that movie, Dario died the exact same way except instead of a rock crusher in a cave it was a grinder in a cocaine factory.
I gotta agree I wish Indy could have saved that guards life as well especially the way he was looking at Indiana as if pleading Save me without actually saying it out loud . He looked terrified which I would be as well right before he got crushed. I would not wish that painful death upon anyone
1:49-1:54, 1:56-2:01 now, I realized that chief guard was awake from the curse after, dropping the 🪨 on his head from Indiana Jones 🪣 at him. But, I still feel bad for him not being cursed with hypnosis.
well there’s a theory that he was under the influence of the Kali blood spell the whole time, and only snapped out of it after the pain of the boulder falling on his head and was only himself during his death
@@usedtissuepaper42 Well if that's true then yes I do feel bad for him. I'm not sure it is though since it usually takes fire to make people snap out of the Blood influence.

I'll let you fans decide what's more gruesome: being chopped by the plane propeller or squashed by the rock crusher? Oh yes, and he was General Kael in Willow.
Being chopped by the propeller was worse
R.I.P., Pat Roach
Thank God for this time in history. Some of the best cinema ever made.
2:13 every time that part comes i always say "splat!"
Pat Roach was a wrestler
1:48 I always liked the idea that the chief guard was under the black sleep’s influence, and that was what woke him up, only for him to be crushed to death
Fun fact the actor who played the chief guard is the same guy who played the German mechanic Indy fought in the first film his name is Pat Roach before he did acting he was a British professional wrestler it’s a shame he’s dead only 67 years old may he rest in peace
0:53-1:21 is my favourite part out of the whole entire movie
1:54 indy catch the chief scarf
2:00 indy try to pull rope
2:04 to late
Even though Indy tried to save him, his dying sound was petty hilarious.
“You heard him. Those were his last words.”
“Not if you count the gurgling sounds”
Translation I'm stuck I'm stuck save me save me no no save me sir save me
Very Dark Theory about the Slave Driver: He was under the spell of Kali and the shock from the realisation he was about to die a horrible death made him snap out of it. Indiana Jones, Realising this, Tried to save his life but failed.
1:55 the guys face 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Indian man with the turban is the same man from Raiders of the lost ark who got himself killed by Jet propeller. Hard to believe That it is him.
Jet propeller 😔
RIP
Pat Roach
(1937-2004).
And also Last Crusade
Just realized The Last Crusade was incredibly lacking in the Indy fistfight department, although watching him repeatedly slam the SS guy’s face into the tank turret was equally gratifying in itself.
The Coronado ship, the Venice speedboats and the tank, not quite as intense as the first 2 films but still decent
@@eagle-eye125 you are right! Those did give us those night meaty Indiana Jones punching sound effects!
I think John Williams score for Temple of Doom is the best of the series.
Hell yeah! It's the most intense!
It was awesome to hear most of the cues and score for the Indiana jones ride at Disneyland from this!
I agree. My favorite John Williams scores for Star Wars are The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge Of The Sith and Rise Of Skywalker
I like how each character has a distinctive theme, like Short Round and Willie.
I never noticed the blood on the back of the crusher. Looking back, I now think: “Ooh. That’s gotta hurt.”
I love Temple of Doom dont understand the hate for it
Very dark stuff.
No capes!!!
NOBODY gets between Short Round and his Oscar-reunion hug!
Pat Roach plays the large guard and he also played the German mechanic in raiders of the lost ark
Bro the shot of short round and Indy laying a beat down at the same time is so funny
2:07 how it feels when you try to get something out from under your bed
It really warms my heart and mind when the heroes gets the upper hand over villains and stands tall over the villains at the end of the movie.
Love the elbow from Short Round to save the day 💪
Such a brutal way to go, no wonder Indy tried to save him
People are dying meanwhile Willie: *throws punches at air*
The voodoo doll part is so crazy. I remember watching this on HBO when I was five. It’s still great, even when it’s bad. There’s a grossness and grit you don’t see today.
I love this movie soo much, especially willie since she has all the exact reactions I'd have if I was forced into some crazy adventure lmao
I absolutely HATE the voodoo doll in this movie
0:18 You know, Zalim Singh aka the Maharajah really isn't making things any easier for Indiana. He really wants Indy to have "back pains".
The night intense battle in this scene is AWESOME! The score behind it makes it even better.
0:31 that part had me laughing So hard!!! 😂
Thank you, Vic Armstrong.
Temple of Doom had the best fighting action. 1:47 sealed his own fate
Why do I feel like “ License to Kill” was inspired by this scene because in that movie, Dario died the exact same way except instead of a rock crusher in a cave it was a grinder in a cocaine factory.
Another John Williams masterpiece and Steven spealburg masterpiece
at 0:57 was that a evil laugh i heard?
I gotta agree I wish Indy could have saved that guards life as well especially the way he was looking at Indiana as if pleading Save me without actually saying it out loud . He looked terrified which I would be as well right before he got crushed. I would not wish that painful death upon anyone
I have to say, this guy suffered a rather crushing defeat.
1:49-1:54, 1:56-2:01 now, I realized that chief guard was awake from the curse after, dropping the 🪨 on his head from Indiana Jones 🪣 at him. But, I still feel bad for him not being cursed with hypnosis.
Man that dude's skull is really strong to take a falling rock on his own head like a boss.
1:50 That's not good. His scarf is snagged, and he'll be ground into paste
Am I the only one who feels no sympathy for the guy? Considering he helped enslave a bunch of kids I'd say he deserves whatever he gets.
well there’s a theory that he was under the influence of the Kali blood spell the whole time, and only snapped out of it after the pain of the boulder falling on his head and was only himself during his death
@@usedtissuepaper42 Well if that's true then yes I do feel bad for him. I'm not sure it is though since it usually takes fire to make people snap out of the Blood influence.
I like to think that at 1:49, the dude had the spell broken, like Indy did, and maybe tried to use his dying moments to stop Mola Ram.
