Lemme tell ya somethin, I totally understand where the messy mom is coming from thinking the kids will end up being resentful of their cleanfreak mother later in life, but when I was growing up.. I lived in a home where as I grew I often really desired to carve out my own space that wasn't influenced by all the rest of the chaos in my house. I shared a bedroom with my little sister, and my mother did not do much of anything to clean or make our house comfortable. She was very much a hoarder, and my little sister, myself, and our pets would get into everything all the time as toddlers, so eventually she couldn't leave her hoard everywhere and she would have to move it all to her side of my parents bedroom and the spare bedroom.. but the rest of the house was usually a mess with clothes and things just everywhere, food sticking to everything, cobwebs and dust building up in all the corners ... it was pretty much a madhouse. The amount of bugs that would get into and around our home (no roaches thankGod) made me feel like I lived in a log cabin... so it's like there's one extreme and then there's another. Keeping the house more clean and comfortable is proven to have a more positive effect on families and the anxieties of the children. It supports stability and a general feeling of safety and wellness and thats what im striving to do for my family now as a mommy. There's nothing wrong with allowing your kids to express their individuality and get messy once in a while, but showing them how to take care of their rooms and belongings, being part of the process of cleaning up after themselves and keeping the house comfortable for everyone, especially them, is a very healthy mindset to instill. 👌🏻
