      A power cord is a a type of chord that your first fret/finger goes over all 6 strings

    • @leejohnblackmoremusic
      @leejohnblackmoremusic  5 лет назад +5

      You're talking about a barr chord, a power chord is actually called a 5th chord as it will only have the 1st and 5th note in the chord, we can also play it including the 8th(the octave). I hope that helps😉👍

    • @leejohnblackmoremusic
      @leejohnblackmoremusic  7 лет назад +55

      Ok dude, you're playing it too fast ..instead of trying to relax the fingers try to not push down at all, just touch the strings and not push onto the fretboard. Go super, super slow, get used to the motion of your fingers doing the same thing each time, gradually speed up ..but not too much, still play slow and you'll start to feel it come together. Let me know how you get on. Good luck ;-)

      Cover the strings but don't press down on the frets. Use the meaty part of your index finger against the non played strings. Basically play the power chords as lazy as possible. Or you can use the back of your strumming hand resting on the high strings

    Thanks mate! I started learning just over a week ago and I’m really pleased that I can even do the first two chords fairly easily haha! Absolutely gonna save this for when I need to stretch my ring finger, I’ve been focusing so much on my pinkie I keep forgetting that the ring finger is also notoriously difficult to control 😭
    Also never even occurred to me that guitarists actually purposefully mute strings WHILE strumming, no lie this is a game changer for me!
    I’ve just been focusing on building up my calluses and posture. I have irl lessons too but RUclips really is fantastic for these little tutorials, great for a warmup too!
    I also suggest newcomers to the guitar (like me) practice with the first couple of notes of the song “seven nation army” by the white stripes. Personally I’ve found it to be a great exercise in keeping up with the rhythm as well as learning to quickly and precisely move your hand down the fret board.

    Great way of teaching, man.
    I learned to play this song, 20 years ago.
    Not sure why I watched the video, knowing the chords/song already, probably because I never really got the two notes( bottom two strings, first fret) at the end of the chord progression- lmao
    but I'm glad I watched it, I've watched quite a few of your tutorials, I like your teaching style- the way you teach , or explain is very straightforward, yet you cover all of the things I always kinda knew, but could never articulated/put to words.
    Also I wasn't getting the chucka-chucka sound before-
    So thanks again.

    Sometimes I have a hard time getting the chords right because of my tiny hand and short fingers. Do you have any tips on how to play with short fingers?

    • @leejohnblackmoremusic
      @leejohnblackmoremusic  6 лет назад +6

      I teach 6 year olds with short fingers, it's just about placement and being careful about how you position your fingers, it takes a bit of practice but you'll get there. Good luck😎🎸

    Hey! I'm a learner and I am learning this song as I love Nirvana but I'm left handed and when I play my right wrist really hurts how could I stop that from happening?

    • @coltonm7417
      @coltonm7417 7 лет назад +8

      Just gotta' get used to it. I play left handed too, it doesn't hurt after a little bit of playing. Take it a little bit at a time and don't feel afraid to overstep your comfort zone slightly. It's actually a normal thing regardless of what hand you fret with.

      Nicky James You'll just have to build up the strength, Im a leftie as well. I'm assuming you play an acoustic, so if possible try strumming using an electric guitar (unplugged or not), using light gauge strings..so much easier and won't have to strain as much on fretting.

    • @Boobies92545
      @Boobies92545 6 лет назад +1

      Nicky James make sure you stretch your hands before playing. I didn't do that for the first couple of months before starting and my whole hand was hurting and felt numb and you can get Carpel tunnel. Look up videos on how you can stretch them

    • @leejohnblackmoremusic
      @leejohnblackmoremusic  6 лет назад +6

      Rock This Bus slow everything down, work on moving between the chord positions first, Dont press down on the strings to mute, just rest your fingers over the strings. when its comfortable start work on the rhythm pattern. Play slow, concentrate on finger positions. Good luck🤘and let me know how you get on 😁

    • @leejohnblackmoremusic
      @leejohnblackmoremusic  7 лет назад +10

      Try practicing the positions higher up the fretboard, (where they're closer together), I'm guessing you're a new player, make sure your thumb is resting approx in the middle of the neck behind the fretboard and you're sitting correctly on a good stool or armless chair. keep going and let me know how you get on ;-)
