Out of all the stories, my favorite is the Rodney Rogers "You haven't hit a jumper since 1984 !" incident. Magic Johnson heard it and got pissed and in a scrimmage got the ball to Larry Bird, whom Rodney Rogers was guarding, 8 or 9 times in a row and Bird scored 8 or 9 straight times. he then turned to Rogers and said "Was that like 1984 ??????"
I attended the Bird/Dominique shoot out game. Easily the most memorable Celtics game I ever attended. I also attended the Celtics, with Dominique on the roster, final game ever at THE Boston Garden. Dominique played tough that night. He was a gamer and all time great!
You never say someone got a last laugh if they got 30+ dropped on them that's suck ass Defense use you damn fouls and he still got 3s drilled in his face! The weak ass crying players today if Lebron had to guard Bird love to see that Bird make LEBITCH crying and leave the court!
Favourite Bird trash talk moment was when he went in the locker room at the All-Star game before the 3 point contest and announced that everyone else would be shooting for 2nd place.
I don't have a favorite Bird line but the way he talked trash is special to me. He wasn't brutal or vulgar he just pointed things out. He asked a player if his parents were watching and other funny things as well.
I'm so grateful to have grown up when Bird and Magic came in the league, and watched it explode! Have no use for nba now, but the 80s were the best basketball ever, not even close! And Nique was a big part of it.
Yeah I totally agree, his dunks were a lot more convincing and just more powerful, he would just make it look so easy and slam it right through with so much authority.
I think that Larry remains popular because he is just so damn cool! Race really doesn't matter with him. Larry was all about winning. PERIOD! Calling out his shots as he's running down the floor, telling the other bench what the Celtics play was going to be and the doing it! Larry had a lot of fun and it showed! And the TRASH TALKING! he wasn't vulgar or obscene, he just let you know he was better than you. Kind of reminds me of Muhammed Ali and how he would trash talk to his opponents, then back it up!
My favorite Bird/Magic story is when the Celtics were playing the Lakers at the Forum. Magic was out that game from a torn ligament. Bird walks down to the bench where Magic was and says "I'm sorry you're not playing today, but since you're here I'm going to put on a show for you" Magic was like "Get out of my face, I don't want to hear that. This is the Lakers and Celtics." Sure enough, every time Bird made a 3 he would look over at Magic and smile. The way Magic explains it. It's just pure comedy.
Bird was bored on one road trip and told reporters that in the next game, he's going to play the first three-quarters left-handed. He did and ended up with like 26 points. Yes there is footage of him shooting left-handed in that game.
My favorite Birdy trash talk line happened as I watched live on Boston TV, 1981 the Celtics massive championship victory rally, Boston City Hall Plaza. Bird takes the microphone before the huge crowd, he sees a sign a fan is holding up and announces on live tv: "Moses Malone does eat sh##".... Legend!
Yup. Someone had a sign and Larry came out and said ... "As I look out over the crowd I see something that sums up our whole season." Followed by a pause. Then the above line. Incredible. The next day or two he issued an "apology" in the press which everyone knew wasn't really one.
I heard in a clip from Danny Ainge recently that he was shooting hours before that game when Dominique & Bird dueled. He said that he looked down the court & Bird was practicing left-handed runners. Danny went down there & asked "What are you foing?!". And Bird told him that his achilles tendons were killing him, so he couldn't shoot his fade away shot! Never heard anything like that before, but that's why he only had 12 points going into the fourth quarter. Even without his biggest weapon, Larry STILL managed to claw & fight & find a way to win it! 😮 These are NBA games, greatest players anywhere in the world that Larry was playing left-handed or still beating playing injured!
I never get tired of Larry Legend stories. I love the one where he tells Charles Barkley, you guys are disrespecting me and Charles asked how and Larry asked why you do you have a white guy guarding me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great era and I'm a huge Larry Bird fan. No Dominique couldn't stop him but Bird couldn't stop Dominique either. Those dudes had some battles. And I'm positive there wasn't any talk about them teaming up for a championship.
Love those Larry Bird trash talk stories! One of my favorites is one that Kevin McHale tells about a time when the Celtics were playing a road game in Washington or Cleveland, I can't remember which, and the flight was delayed because of snow (they flew commercial back then). They arrived late and there wasn't enough time for the bus to go to the hotel first, so they had to go right to the arena. As he walked by the home team's bench before the game, Larry said "Don't take this butt whoopin' personally, I been eatin' hot dogs all day." And then proceeded to drop 30 or 40 on them.
Larry Bird is the one that nicknamed Wilkins, the human highlight film for his spectacular dunking ability. The same Bird also commented that Wilkins was a one dimensional player. I think he would have preferred Wilkins to up his game and be more competitive. So trash talking yes, but I think it was to spur his opponents to be more competitive and make the game more interesting.
I heard a story, I don't know if it's true. That Larry Bird heard that they were creating a statue for Dominique and Larry Bird called Dominique and said: "I bet you it won't be in a defensive stand".
My favorite Bird trash talk memory was during a Celtics/Sonics game when during a Celtics time out late in the 4th quarter, Larry told Xavier McDaniel that he was "getting the ball". Xavier said, 'I know, I'm gonna be waiting. Then Bird said, "I'm gonna get it right here, and then shoot a turn around fade away right in your face". Next thing you know Bird got the ball at that exact same spot and scored the game winner with the shot right in McDaniels face, and all Xavier did was walk back to the bench only saying one word.... 'Damn'.
My Fave is when he sledged his teammate, Pistol Pete. In his Rookie season Larry got the ball, got double teamed and forced the shot up. Maravich said something like 'Hey Bird, I was open, pass me the f'ing ball.' Larry responded with, 'If you were any f'ing good you wouldn't have been open.'
Bird evaluated talent very. Then gained the psychological advantage if he could most likely he would. There was only a handful of players in the league be that any era that could affect the game like he could. Ball don't lie!
Trash talking not only get in the competitions head, but it helps motivates Larry to prove it. A lot of elite athletes use it as a tool to motivate and elevate themselves.
‘Nique was one of my alltime favorites, but he wasn’t exactly the best defender in the world. So saying that Bird lit Wilkins up wasn’t exactly like lightning up a defensive player of the year winner
even Old Larry bird games were good. Larry got the last laugh on all the greats since he beat em all. I'd take Larry Legend over Kobe, Lebron and Steph any day and twice in the playoffs.
Bird would have made JJ Redick quit basketball and give all his salary to him. Today players are so soft and overpaid, they should be thankful for all the legends before them.
you show one moment where he's trash talking and you're like it's still going. The most pointless video ever and by the way, if dominique was the one who posted it. How do you get back to him? it just seems like a pointless video Just click bait bull crap
I went see the Boston Celtics play the LA Clippers in the old Sports Arena while the Faker Lakers still played in the NOT SO FABULOUS FOREM😊. IT was Larry Joe Birds' last game I witnessed. He had to lay on his stomach. Larry still scored over 20 with 9 rebounds and a couple of steals! Labaron James is ready to jump ship so he can play with Browny.... Jordan 🇯🇴 wants out of Charlotte N.C. Who wants 2 bet me Laker Faker buys Jordan out!?😅

Love that story.
People talk about Larry vs. Magic. Working together, that is not a duo you can beat. Unstoppable.
I attended the Bird/Dominique shoot out game. Easily the most memorable Celtics game I ever attended.
I also attended the Celtics, with Dominique on the roster, final game ever at THE Boston Garden. Dominique played tough that night. He was a gamer and all time great!
That's one of the greatest, if not the greatest game of all time. Unbelievable!
Just so people don't think anything other than *"edge"* when Larry wouldn't shake Dominique's hand. Larry had to stick to his guns.
How about Larry and Bernard King
All in good fun. They respect each other immensely. That era was so great.
The real life superhero’s of our youth
Dominique got the last laugh: he held Larry to 39 points.
Lol yup
You never say someone got a last laugh if they got 30+ dropped on them that's suck ass Defense use you damn fouls and he still got 3s drilled in his face! The weak ass crying players today if Lebron had to guard Bird love to see that Bird make LEBITCH crying and leave the court!
yeah you could say that to demolish the: literally 40
Dammit! I just changed your likes from 39 to 40...
And Larry got 3 rings lol

Bird and Wilkins had epic games. Both amazing players. Human highlight reels, both of them! 💪🏀🏀🏀
I'm so grateful to have grown up when Bird and Magic came in the league, and watched it explode! Have no use for nba now, but the 80s were the best basketball ever, not even close! And Nique was a big part of it.
I lost interest in the NBA after Bird retired. I recently tried watching a game, and it's 100 times worse than the golden days.
I feel the same way about every sport.... except 90's football was the sht....
I think Nique was the best slam dunker, ever. Better than Jordan. Jordan even says Nique beat him in their last encounter.
Yeah I totally agree, his dunks were a lot more convincing and just more powerful, he would just make it look so easy and slam it right through with so much authority.

It was an honor watching Bird play!.... today's player's should be more professional like he was.
"that's a heat check just showing how hot I am"
Larry Joe Bird
Larry:"Holmes."
Nique:"Did this S.O.B just call me Holmes."

Larry to Magic after running to try to block a Larry jumper = "You did all that running for nothing"
Bird was bored on one road trip and told reporters that in the next game, he's going to play the first three-quarters left-handed. He did and ended up with like 26 points. Yes there is footage of him shooting left-handed in that game.
you forgot the next line, he said he was saving his right hand for the lakers.
Dominique should have sent that dunk on Bird as a obvious response saying this "Hey Larry is that highest you can jump"!!!!!!
My favorite Birdy trash talk line happened as I watched live on Boston TV, 1981 the Celtics massive championship victory rally, Boston City Hall Plaza. Larry legend was a killer. He def respects Dominique, he’s just having fun. That’s a very cool photo too.
Bird”s dry wit always makes me laugh. Dominique is pure class.

“I hope your mom’s watching this game on TV”. - Larry Bird to Craig Ehlo after torching him.
😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome video. Salute from Massachusetts. Boston boss
i love the other team cheering
Bird and Wilkins . My two favorite NBA players of that era.
That slam at 2:19 is such an underratedly nasty play.

That's hi-Larry-ous.
After watching endless Bird videos and reading his first book, I get the feeling that Bird's comment was in jest. He just loves to needle people.
"Michael Jordan made you look slow, Larry Bird made you look stupid"
Favorite one, 'is your Mom watching?' I don't think that one has been forgiven!
Larry asking the opposing coach if he has anybody else on the bench to guard him, coach looks down the bench and says a no 😅
The duel in 88 ..One of Sports most epic contests.
I LOOOOOOVE LARRY😊 I LOOOOOOVE A LOT OF U GREATS😊💙💙💙💙💙 💙
I love the story X-Man McDaniels tells about Bird LMFAO 😂
Bird evaluated talent very. Then gained the psychological advantage if he could most likely he would. There was only a handful of players in the league be that any era that could affect the game like he could. Ball don't lie!
🤣🤣🤣never change Larry 🤣🤣🤣
Dominique had the Celtics down in '88, but couldn't deliver the knockout punch.
How 'bout that put back tomahawk dunk off his missed free throw in the playoffs? Bird was just looking like WTF! Take that Larry!
Holmes
Trash talking not only get in the competitions head, but it helps motivates Larry to prove it. A lot of elite athletes use it as a tool to motivate and elevate themselves.

Lesson #1. Don't poke the bear. Bird took the Hawks to the woodshed after that poke.. LOL. Go ISU grad.
LB: "Man, you guys are disrepecting me..."
CB: *confused Chuck* "What do you mean?"
LB: "You got a white guy guarding me....that's disrespectful."
Man if Larry Back didn't get messed up he probably could of played till 40 at least
