There is so much more to this story. I hate to say it but BV is not telling the whole story here. Nic Anderson, a freshman WR was in the room when it happened and know exactly what went down. Why is that important? It's important because of what his older brother and former player, Rodney Anderson said about the situation. Rodney who is privy to the info and has a primary source to the situation basically called the forced resignation ridiculous. Would Rodney really say that if he knew that Cale had said it multiple times? Plus you add in the tweet that Cale's daughter put out today saying that BV was essentially preventing the players from telling what really happened. This is still not adding up, and to be honest, BV failed his first big crisis test. He's already split the fan base and killed a ton of our momentum. Really really bad situation all around.

I went to school with Cale and met Cale in class-- I am a big fan of him from a personal level. I support coach V and how he is handling this difficult situation. OU coaches are revered and represent not only the university but represent Oklahomans. Coach V demands a culture of excellence and his decision is based on this expectation which is rooted in solid faith based principles.
Amazing that a guy can lose his coaching career over reading a word that players on his team are constantly saying… At bare minimum it should’ve been handled internally to prevent it from ruining Gundy’s life

The player are grilled on reporting issues such as this. They have compliance officers within the program and the coaching staff encourages players to discuss personal, social or mental health issues. This was reported within a couple of hours and as I understand Gundy self reported it as well.
He’s a coach, he supposed to be a role model to these students, stopping to their level, shouldn’t be an option. Act as a leader, not a follower. It’s a shame he didn’t know better.
The issue is the players that were there are being told to keep quiet. If it was being joked about by Gundy and players afterwards, that means possibly another assistant coach brought it to BV attention.
If it was handled on the spot, or with all involved in the room within an hour or so then why would it need to be brought up on social media or wherever public? Saying "keep it quiet" might've simply been a brushed-off comment after resolution to move on and stop dwelling on it. It doesn't mean there was a coverup effort.

I don't support what Cale Gundy did, and let's be clear we probably don't know exactly how it went down, but I think we need to be able to bridge the gap between behavioral mistakes where someone clearly has a solid behavior track record with college athletes of all backgrounds. People do make mistakes, and unfortunately perhaps Cale Gundy is paying the price for all of the people with less of a solid track record. I'd like to hear from the players, now that the cat is out of the bag.

I do think that honest mistakes can be made that a direct apology to those players involved and awareness training (like most of us have to go through) on not only what is acceptable under state law, but also how Oklahoma wants coaches to conduct themselves, may have been appropriate.

Every word has a context. The context in which a word is used determines how it should be interpreted. No word, IMO, should be forbidden to be used in any context or forbidden to be written or spoken. The implications that comes with censoring words become censoring speech and the country is dangerously close to that now.

John Hoover has been butt-hurt ever since his daughter didn't get a soccer scholarship at OU. So he has seldom missed an opportunity to poke his stick in the anthill. His long review of Cale Gundy's resume doesn't matter. Everyone acknowledges that Cale is a great recruiter. What Hoover doesn't deal with is that OU has a zero-tolerance policy concerning racial slurs. Cale was well aware of the policy and he violated it. Multiple times. And then he issued a statement that implied that he accidentally said the word once. It's very sad, but he had to go. Most of Hoover's predictions here are already looking like they are overblown.

I do think that honest mistakes can be made that a direct apology to those players involved and awareness training (like most of us have to go through) on not only what is acceptable under state law, but also how Oklahoma wants coaches to conduct themselves, may have been appropriate.

No word, IMO, should be forbidden to be used in any context or forbidden to be written or spoken. The implications that comes with censoring words become censoring speech and the country is dangerously close to that now.

John Hoover has been butt-hurt ever since his daughter didn't get a soccer scholarship at OU. So he has seldom missed an opportunity to poke his stick in the anthill.
His long review of Cale Gundy's resume doesn't matter. Everyone acknowledges that Cale is a great recruiter. What Hoover doesn't deal with is that OU has a zero-tolerance policy concerning racial slurs. Cale was well aware of the policy and he violated it. Multiple times. And then he issued a statement that implied that he accidentally said the word once. It's very sad, but he had to go.
Most of Hoover's predictions here are already looking like they are overblown.
