Georgia/TCU was not only for the Nt'l Champ but could also be seen as the SEC imparting a message of how things may end up between the Big12 and SEC going forward...because of the animosity being created by their(Big12) stand on OU/TX. Not the negotiations in and of itself, but the pettiness quotient pervading the conference's stand on this issue? It's been over two years now and those guys are still "all up in their feelings". The following year they out-recruited the whole Big12 except for OU and UT and having one the highest recruiting classes that a G5 has ever had. UT played it smart by recruiting Houston’s coach thus ending and possible elite runs. Over night they destroyed Houston’s recruiting, any possibility of future good runs, etc. Also, B12 was exploring the possibility of expansion in 2016 where Houston and possibly UCF were in the talks for expansion, things went south when UT said no.
For the last time, Texas and OU will leave in 2025. They have said this from day one and they continue to day this. I know it makes for good drama, but things have not changed. The big news right now should be when is the damned 2023 Big XII football schedule going to be released? Which of the leftovers wind up losing a pay day game against OU and UT?
Big XII should have never alienated OU & Texas. The leftover 8 got too cocky with their behavior and blew it. Baylor's AD should have kept his mouth shut about Texas, but he couldn't help himself.

The exit fee is only part of the equation. If Texas and OU just paid and left the Big 12 gets all of their SEC tv money until 2025, add in Fox wanting to be made whole it’s not as easy as pay and leave.

They paid UT 300 mil for the Longhorn Network. Thats why 4 teams left the big 12 earlier. Should have financed the Big 12 Network instead. So ESPN and their $$$ Have been driving college football for a couple od decades now.
The money only helps the remaining 8 BYU is the only other team that doesn't have to worry about money. UT & OU will play this coming years schedule. OU can't afford the payout.

The four new teams violate the tv contract but I can see both sides. Also it would make more sense for the four new teams to be split up 2 for oklahoma and 2 for Texas.
Texas and OU will not pay the early exit fee. They will stay until 2025, just like they said they would from day one. The Horns and the Sooners will play whatever schedule they receive, and eventually move on to the best conference in NCAA football. To be the best, you have to have the courage to play the best.
UH tried pulling power plays using their local state representatives. It's been 20 and 30 years since UT or A&M has scheduled them. Have your day if you must but the penalty you pay will exceed your childrens lives.

Also, why can't UCLA just write a check to UC-Davis or cal poly (same university system) once a year instead of beating them on the field 40-3? And, as a fan, don't you want your home schedule at Alabama to include Ohio State and Clemson, not Utah State and ULM? I would feel ripped off as a season ticket holder.

I mean, Gonzaga doesn't have a football team, right? Look at those Big East Basketball teams. So...if the program doesn't make money you can't have one anymore. Some schools need to stick to basketball and wait for it....education. Others can go to D 2, D 3, etc.
