I'm like a lot of you! I dont really use gouache that often so this was a fun sketch to do :)
PearFleur well I think they turned out great
Gouache rules, don't know why so many people hate it.
Shannon Beech I guess it's hard to use
Hi PearFleur, I was just wondering what kind of paint brush, paint and pad you use in this video and where I could buy them like on Amazon? You are honestly so talented and I'd love to practice with this medium. Keep up the amazing art work. 😄
If you mean those giant bottles they squeezed the paint out of, that's tempera paint, they use it in schools because it's cheap, easy to maintain and most importantly low in toxicity. Tempera acts similar to Gouache in nature, but they're still different beasts. It doesn't help that few teachers actually go into the qualities unique the paint and teach how to use it compared to other paints.
Most people tell you that Gouache is a like a cross between watercolour and acrylic, and while that's a great short hand for describing qualities of the paint such as drying time, it's opaqueness, and water reactivation, it's bad for technique. A lot of the frustration I see comes people trying to use it as a watercolour or as an acrylic. They get upset that it keeps reactivating, or that it dries too fast. But the problems, they're trying to use it like a paint it's not.
It's visual ecstasy when the pink hits the second thumbnail. Such a good color palette.
SAME!!
oh my gouache this is great
get it

wow i'm so impressed you didn't have to use tape to do the squares and they still look so neat 🌹🌿🌹🌿
The color palate looks fun!~
I wish I could paint like you.
Have a good day!
You make painting with gouache look SO early but I can't get over how tricky it is! Love this.
Ikr, gouache is such a struggle when I attempt to use it
Before this vid I had only heard of gouache. And I had always been a fan of acrylic and watercolors and to me, this seems like a happy medium between the two! If you don't mind could you make a vid explaining gouache and maybe some tips? I would like to get into this medium!😊
Gouache is definitely a happy medium, you're spot on! It's a bit strange to use at first, but so much fun when you get the hang of it!
How wonderful, it's like two little masterpieces next to each other being friends
I just recently bought a set of gouache paint. And I LOVE it because it doesn't dry as fast as acrylics but I get the vibrancy and consistency like acrylic paint. But I can also make them like watercolors and still be very vibrant. i love and highly recommend
Funny, I'm planning a gouache video tutorial this summer, so this make me want to do it now! Love you paintings, here, but wish you did a narrative. Gouache is such a mystery to many people who often buy cheap sets trying to save money, thinking, "I'm not sure I'm even going to like this!" When their painting gets muddy or streaky, or the paints are too thin, they give up. I highly suggest, for anyone curious, buy 2 or 3 high quality colors (primaries, maybe) and just play with them. It's so much fun when you have good gear! It's like using Crayola markers because Copics are too expensive. The end results are HUGE. Thanks, PearFleur and cheers! :)
Well said, PetiteSirène Hannaé-Elisabeth! Glad to know others feel that way! Just subscribed to your channel and looking forward to seeing your work! Cheers! ;)
True! I mention that in one of my videos about cheap art supplies, no matter how talented an artist is, produce cheap results. It took a long time for me to figure that out, as no one ever told me. I always bought cheap supplies, thinking they'd be fine. But, when I got my hands on a real sable brush for the first time - woah!! I think I actually did a dance! :)
Oh! Alright, I'll definitely that that advice into consideration.
Hey M.D. Campbell, you ever upload that gouache video? I can't find it. I'm looking to buy some but I have no idea what to buy. Do I get a whole set or just white or black & white and primaries? Some people use just white and mix with watercolor. Some just use gouache. What brand do I get? I'm curious about the Caran D'ache pan palette cause I like pans the most. But it seems like only the lighter colors are truly opaque so maybe I won't use all the colors and it won't be worth it. I've been sorting through video tutorials and reviews galore. Nobody reviews more than like 2 brands at a time. There's a million best of and ranking videos for watercolor but next to nothing for gouache. I love what Pearfleur here does with the Mijello. I've heard good things about Windsor & Newton, Sennelier, Schminke, M. Graham, Royal Talens, Arteza, and others There's also Shinhan and Nicker poater paint that a lot of people recommend. People on youtube make the paints look so opaque and so creamy but I don't know where to even start lol. Someone please help! :D
Studio Caprittarius hey, I’m not sure if this is too late, traditional primaries used for watercolour/acrylic/oil paints are different to gouache, you can purchase sets which include the recommended three primaries of cyan, magenta and yellow, along with black and white, Windsor and Newton is a good brand, and make sure to buy designers gouache, as this is the equivalent to “artist grade” in other paints. These differences are due to the general use of gouache as a graphic design medium, now and in the past, as the colours are vibrant and opaque. Sorry if this is choppy and haphazard, I hope it helps though
If I only had 6 mins left to live I'd spend it rewatching this video. This was an absolute joy to watch. I can't really put it into words how it good it made me feel, but thank you for sharing. ❤️
One of the best things about gouache is its opacity, and I really love that you just went for it and made entirely layered little excitements. They’re gorgeous!
The Spirited away track just made this 100 times better. I really love your usage of gouache.

Wow! This is so pretty!!
Beautiful! Love the colors. Very inspiring. (Just beginning my creative journey.) Thank you for sharing this.
So happy that you made this video! I grabbed a set of paints at Ross thinking they were watercolors, only to discover later, with the help of other RUclips videos that they were actually Gouache. The paints were labelled Gouache, but I just skipped over it because I didn't know about the term. Turns out there's a difference between Gouache and watercolors. So I went to Daiso to get watercolors...but I still hope to figure out how to use Gouahe as well. Just a beginner right now, so I'm starting out with cheap paints. :)
i don't know much abt them but it seems like it's rlly good at layering light n brights over dark colours. good to experiment w/ layering then to get a good feel and try ur hand at building up a scene or face(planning bg to foreground colours).
saltandpeppers
From what I've learned they're very similar. The main differences seems to be that gouache is opaque and it's less responsive to water.
Watercolour is easier to blend and create effects with because it's more responsive to water. If you use gouache you'll be able to correct mistakes and go back and forth between light and dark colours since it is opaque. You can also water down gouache and use it like watercolour, however, the result won't look as good as watercolour.
I like to think gouache as the medium between acrylics and watercolor :D
Doro can you make pans out of gouache like you can with watercolour? If you do will the quality of the paint decrease?
how are you getting on with watercolours ?? they're my fave but it took me a little while to get used to them as i always used oil or acrylics before, i used to think they were a bit intimidating
I love the music choice 😍
Oh wow that is awesome! Thanks for the video.
