I am from maharashtra , vidarbha side are not developement , for jobs we need to go pune , only nagpur is developed rest are under developed , the politicians only focus on western side of maharashtra and fully ignoring the vidarbha side , which is largest region of maharashtra , if they focus here also then no problem , if not then it will have same fate as telangana.

40 states and 10 UTs will be the most ideal situation I think, less is okay but not more
Instead of dividing in smaller states, we have to decentralize the industrial & IT sectors. Every district should have their own university and industrial sectors.

Each state with 2Cr max population would be ideal. So that way , having 75 states is needed. Some of the very small states can be merged to form one state as well..
In Maharashtra, Vidarbha is totally ignored region. Politicians focus only on Western region -Pune and Mumbai.People from Western Maharashtra don't respect culture and language of Vidarbha.They make fun of Vidarbha Marathi(Varadhi) by calling it Ashudh Marathi or fake Marathi.Nagpur already have high court bench,Vidhan Bhavan and all infrastructure required for capital since it is Winter Capital of Maharashtra.Vidarbha should be separated from Maharashtra as told by Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
New states like Baghelkhand, Marusthan, Saurashtra, Vidarbha, Bodoland, Purvanchal and Jammu must be formed in near future. I think 35 states and 10 UTs should be perfect for governance..
Rajsthan - 3 states
Up - 4 states
Mp - 3 states
Maharashtra - 3 states
Gujrat 2 states
Karnatka - 2 states
Andhrapradesh - 2 states
Total - 28+12 = 40 sufficient

We are not against Assam and Assamese people. We are *Bodo* , largest ethnolinguistic tribe or group in the Northeast India 🇮🇳. *Bodoland* should be a separate state from Assam

We need 125 States. 50 or 75 just isn't sufficient. We need more focused capital cities which will be built only if we create more states. Even then each state will have almost 12 Million population per state, which is almost double to that of USA (~6 Million per state). Managing over 1 Crore citizens is not an easy task.
We need to redefine "State" itself . In India, each "State" itself has so many cultural "Sub-states". Hence, We need to create a new administrative entity, where let's say Andhra Pradesh (erstwhile) can have substates like Kostandhra, Rayalseema, Telangana etc.
The larger "State" entity should be centrally administered by a newly formed Central cadre like IAS, whereas the sub-states can continue to enjoy functioning like normal states, with chief ministers, capital cities, budgets and all.
In this way, The count of "States" can remain consistent whereas substates can always be merged or divided based on demographic changes with ease.

1. Mp (east side bordering with rj & gj with indore as capital) ,
2 Up (divided in half with prayagraj or banaras as capital) ,
3. rj (manupradesh jodhpur as capital) ,
4. wb (Gorkhaland darjeeling/siliguri as capital)
5. mh (vidharbha nagpur as capital)

Very big states need to be divided after careful consideration as has been till now - it will reach around 50 states. More than that may result in some states getting ignored - The Federal structure needs to be evolved to govern the 50 states more effectively
