    When i was 9 years old, my grandmother took me and my sister to Hawaii to visit some family. I had the honor of visiting the USS Arizona Memorial.
    Seeing the wall of names, seeing the remains of the ship, even at a young age I knew that it was something i will never forget.
    Rest in Peace Sailor, your duty is done. You and your comrades sacrifices and lives will ALWAYS be remembered.

      Not to split hairs, but the fly over was by 2 USAF F-22s and 2 F-18 Hornets (Navy or USMC), neither aircraft is based out of Beale AFB. I've never seen a joint flyover like that, to me it is a significant show of respect.

      Fitting tribute for the last surviving member of the Arizonas' crew....but they should not have included "WAVES" as pallbearers, nor for any part of a burial detail. The caskets are too heavy for females to lift; more than that it's insulting.

    • @owensomers8572

      @@waistgunner3930 Feel free to specify exactly where on this report the pall bearer sailors had any challenge moving the casket.

      @owensomers8572 l have seen this happen before even on here (YT). Speaking as a veteran, its an insult; a deep insult, for some "WAVE" to be handling a casket..(l myself had given thought to requesting a military burial, but will not do so now; I would NOT want females participating in it...)
      Some time ago, l attended two military veteran burials; one who served in WW2/Korea, the other a Vietnam veteran. One of the pallbearers, a female, couldn't handle the weight of the casket and almost caused the body to get dropped (it was disgraceful, humiliating, & no small shock to the family; she was relieved from the detail as a result, & deserved reprimand, if not court-martial). While its similar to, but not directly related, another female squad member mis-fired off cue during a 21 gun salute; the veterans' family was very hurt & embarrassed.
      God, what an insult !!
      While there were apparently no mishaps (regarding female members of the burial detail detachment) shown in this video, It is still a bad idea; a very, VERY bad and stupid idea to incorporate women as pallbearers. This only goes to show how much the nation's military has deteriorated, especially with its most honored customs.
      As a veteran, l feel strongly about things like this: they are insulting, shameful, and uncalled-for: I make no apologies for anything as to that.

    • @owensomers8572
      @owensomers8572 3 месяца назад

      @@waistgunner3930 As a veteran, I'm embarrassed that you can't even point out to me on this news story, where three of the pall bearers are female sailors, that there was any issue with the movement of the casket. You are also deeply insulting of service members in general, referring to sailors as "WAVES" when female sailors were integrated into the Navy and Naval Reserves in 1948.
      I've seen male pall bearers pass out, and I've seen male honor guards fire out of sequence during a salute. I'm surprised you aren't offended that the bugler was a retired firefighter. I hope you get to enjoy your military funeral soon.

    I heard two jets fly overhead this day, and unfortunately didnt know what was going on. Being only 1m away from the church I wish I could have been there to witness this first hand.
    Edit: I said 2 jets, reason being I heard 2 individual sounds, only upon watching this i realized it was a formation, that broke up. To anyone who might have more information, why is it nowadays common to see a split in formation like this. Working at large sporting events seeing one fighter being is now pretty common, logically I resort to tactical resilience, however it could be mundane as fuel, navigation, jet wash or any mulitidute of situations which cause a single craft to be slightly delayed from formation.

    My father was a very young boy in December of 1941 (9 years old) and my mom was even younger (only 7) but they lived in Japanese occupied Korea. Without the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor and killing over 2,000 American swrvicemen and plunging the nation into war, Korea would have remained under Japanese occupation forever. Instead the survivors of Pearl Harbor, along with new waves of ships, aircraft and young men, fought their way across the Pacific and forced the Japanese to surrender and allow Korea to be liberated (alas the North was occupied by the Russians). Without men like Lou Conter, the flags of freedom would not have flown over Seoul. God bless you sir. May the Marines guarding Heaven give you the proper salute befitting to a LCDR.
