- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 - 5 December 1791) was one of the most influential, popular and prolific composers of the classical period. A child prodigy, from an early age he began composing over 600 works, including some of the most famous pieces of symphonic, chamber, operatic, and choral music.

Sonata for violin & piano No. 26 in B flat major, K. 378 (K. 317d)
1. Allegro moderato (0:00)
2. Andantino sostenuto e cantabile (9:07)
3. Rondeau. Allegro (14:57)
Henryk Szeryng, violin and Ingrid Haebler, piano
Mozart composed his sonatas for violin and piano in spurts. There are the dozen-plus that he wrote during the 1760s when not yet even a teenager, the six Mannheim sonatas of 1778, the six sonatas of 1781, and finally the four glorious late works put to paper during the mid- and late 1780s. The Sonata for violin and piano No. 26 in B flat major, K. 317d (formerly K. 378), comes from the 1781 set, though it seems that the piece might actually have been composed two years earlier (in 1779) than its five companion pieces. Mozart moved to Vienna in March 1781; these six violin sonatas, minus perhaps the present work (which, if it does date from 1779, counts among the Salzburg works), were composed over the course of his first months as a resident of the bustling Austrian metropolis, and they were the first music of his to be published in the city (as Op. 2).
The sonata is of the three-movement variety standard before Beethoven made a habit of including a minuet/scherzo in the chamber music sequence of events. The movements are Allegro moderato, Andante sostenuto e cantabile, and Allegro (rondo). The first movement is of a breadth and melodic suppleness unknown to the violin sonata before Mozart made it his own; the transition passages burst forth with thematic life of their own, the sweet-tasting opening melody and the sprightly, punctuated parallel thirds of the second theme (in F major, naturally) being laced together by upwards of a half dozen unique little motives. The suave rhythmic overlay of the E flat major Andantino (triplets against dotted figures) offers just a hint of the "Elvira Madigan" Piano Concerto, still half a decade in the future, especially considering the upward-reaching nature of the dotted figures. The refrain theme of the rondo finale spins gently downward upon gossamer ornaments. The first episode is in G minor. The second, which appears after a truncated rendition of the refrain, is a wonderful interruption of meter and rhythm: 3/8 is replaced by a 4/4 meter filled with running eighth-note triplets. This new idea is so fun and so arresting that a complete break is necessary to remind the two players that they must return once more to the carefree refrain theme if they are in fact to finish the movement!
When I first heard this music in my childhood, I always thought that some woman was singing along with the piano. Later, after learning how to play the violin, I got impressed by the magic of the violin.

Che Grazia, che Bellezza, che Ingegno. L'essenza dell'Arte, quella vera.
I am here after watching the movie My Salinger Year. Excerpt of this sonata was used in the movie. I was so enchanted by the brief excerpt that I looked up the piece. And I am glad I did. What a lovely work by W.A. Mozart.
There will only be one Mozart.
Oppie Oppenheimer . wie wahr. es gibt nur einen Mozart!!!
What about Leopold Mozart?
+トカゲの財団 Haha. Well said
@@grid4973 some feel that Alma Deutcher is the same talented.
There was the Mickey Mozart Quartet back in the late 1950s. If you're into old style rock and roll, check it out.
I love the inter-play of melody line like chasing kittens,,,, the piano echo's the violin with teasing antics... and the violin challenges with jumps of scattering leaps,,, peeks then hides. The piano seeks and pounces with delight. Such a fun romp.
I never like reducing such high music into such descriptions.
(but i know it's commonplace, even in high echelon).
Такое же впечатление было у меня: Моцарт здесь играет с музикой.
@@likeworldlikeworld2485 lol yeah okay but we are just having fun and feeing joy because of it and we wanna show it. Mozart wasn’t very high himself with all his “lick my arse” stuff lol
I don't claim to understand music. I'm not musically inclined. But man, this is beautiful. I get goose bumps listening to this.
So much joy when accompanied by this masterpiece
This might be my favorite violin sonata.
To be honest!
It is so beautiful! It's so warm and full of sweet melodic grace.
The theme of the slow movement is the same tune as a hymn we used to sing in the Baptist church, "Fairest Lord Jesus".
I think it’s no. 27 in G for me.
@@aarondrayer548 Exactly. The first few measures are the same
It is my favorite too! And there is an arrangement of this work for violin duet which is wonderful. I still remember the day, as a child taking violin lessons from my father, when he introduced me to the book of 12 Mozart Duos. That arrangement of this piece is the first of the duos that I studied and played with my father!
I need an extra life to hear all of Mozart. And perhaps a third one to appreciate the joy contained therein.
Too beautiful for words!!! Once again the two performers are exceptional!
The splendid sonata of Amedeus Mozart! Nothing like that!
Lovely, original, light-footed music, played in a superb way
Superb way
1. Allegro moderato 0:07
2. Andantino sostenuto e cantabile 9:07
3. Rondeau. Allegro 14:57
automatofix nice job mate.
what's that mean?
@@yourloyalsubscriber1773 starting time spot for the 3 movements of this sonata
Thank you so much. Love from Tanzania.
My favourite part is the closing theme in 2:10 till the end of the exposition ... there's just something about that melody and the chord progression that precedes it that makes this moment very special, and magical. Szeryng made his violin sound like an actual human voice, a very sincere and supple tone. Thanks for sharing this amazing recording!

I call it "the Mozart move": themes at the end of the exposition which are playful, carefree and witty. Mozart often keeps his best aces as a last comment after the main themes, like in the first movement of Jupiter symphony.
I just opened this youtube without seeing who's playing it, and i understood after a few seconds that it was some top world violinist, because of the quiet gracefulness. Yes, henryk szering! If it would have been some student or 21st c contemporary, i would not have believed it.
(editing: I'm refering to the solemnity of the opening)
L'une des plus belles sonates pour violon et piano de tous les temps...
1:00 I love this part 😍😍😍
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing!
My favorite sonata
11:28 The German speakers might recognise the church song: "Schönster Herr Jesu". Interesting because the melody´s provenance is given with Silesia (today Poland) in 19th century. Maybe the melody was around much earlier in Former Austrian Empire...
Fantastic..relaxing..cant say anything else
Temazo.
Thank you, great music !
Guys listen to the third song at double speed, you will be able to feel your braincells multiplying
Double speed is too fast I think. I loved it at 1.25. Even 1.5 was a little too fast for my taste. But I agree, a little faster than this version is ideal for the last part.
‘sOnG’ 💀
My god, so beautiful!
Capolavoro di Mozart dalla contabilità straordinaria con un dialogo fra i due strumenti sempre aperto e costruttivo. Atmosfera Schubertiana nel cantabile del 2 tempo di rara bellezza un capolavoro e basta
Overall it is lovely and playful at the same time. It will become a favorite of mine in very short order!
All these sonatas are so beautifully played by piano and violinist.
ㅜㅜ 1악장 1주제에서 피아노가 제시했던 주제 바이올린에서 한 번 더 받을 때 너무 좋네요
So beautiful.

ain't no way I founded this from those Explanation vids..
Love the part from 17:30 till end
Striking resemblance at 11:26 to 11:36 to the popular hymn Beautiful Savior, or Fairest Lord Jesus. A note on the hymn: The tune, originally a Silesian folk song, and the German text were printed for the first time in 1842 by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben and Ernst Richter under the name Schönster Herr Jesu (Most beautiful Lord Jesus). I haven't found any references linking Mozart to this hymn or vice versa.
Интересно, спасибо. Я никак не замечал этого, Вы молодец.

It's beautifully played.
One question, at around 0:55 and 3:36, violin part, did any of you hear the D and natural E? I heard the subsequent F.
