  • Sooooo, RUclips has been horrifically pixelating all my recent video uploads for some time now. I'm trying a different method here where I'm re-rendering the final video in a different program, which drastically reduces the file size and the bitrate but doesn't seem to reduce the video quality too noticeably. I'm hoping this will reduce the amount of video compression that goes on when RUclips processes the final video and stops my once beautful videos from coming out looking like a load of pixelated vomit.
    Released in 2006 at the PS3 launch, Ridge Racer 7 ran at 1080p and 60 frames per second and also featured Dolby Digital 5.1 and featured a whoopin' 22 tracks. It still looks great today, in fact, much like WipEout HD, I don't think there were that many PS3 driving games that came after that actually managed to surpass this launch game in terms of sheer visual finesse. Just compare this lovely slice of beautifully anti-aliased 60fps perfection to the fugly 30fps jaggies of something like Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and you'll see what I'm talking about. The Ridge Racer style of gameplay isn't for everyone, but if you like this type of game (and I do!) then this is really where the series peaked (Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP is chuffin' ace as well).
    The track here, Seaside Route 765, is the same track that featured in the original Ridge Racer arcade game, done up here in spiffy PS3-O-Vision.
    Also, If you're fan of dance music and a bit of an ageing raver (which I am!) then you're also well served here by the game's wicked soundtrack. The Ridge Racer series has always been synonymous with rave music and the soundtrack here is particularity good in my opinion.
    A new Ridge Racer game is definitely something that's missing on the PS4... At least we got an awesome WipEout remaster collection not too long ago.

    Nostalgia hits hard. And the Ridge Racer Type 4 music, too!?

    Something tells me that this isn't quite the route we need to take to reach 765 Pro. **shot**
    Excellent driving!

    Too bad Ridge City Highway wasn't also included.
    Also it's a lot more cramped with these bigger cars (that or the road is a lot narrower).

    Very much enjoyed RR6 on xbox 360 too. Maybe the triggers of the 360 controller made it a better fit for me. Still, great games throughout the series. Specially type-4 and last generation games.

      PutainDeGeek This is a PS3 game running on the actual hardware. No programs involved.

      I know, I love this game ;). I meant which program/method are you now using for the video upload quality ?

    • @MrThunderwing
      @MrThunderwing  6 лет назад

      Ah, my mistake, I thought you meant was I using an emulator. I ran the finished video file here through a program called Handbrake to shrink the file size right down, with no real noticeable loss of video quality. Unfortunately despite doing this RUclips has still reduced the video quality after processing.

      Thanks for the answer ;) I am looking for a good arcade racing game and I will maybe try this one. I just tried Ridge Racer 5 PS2 but I find it a bit slow... Maybe it's the start.
      Also, I just discovered about Daytona USA 2 thanks to your video and the game looks amazing. Is it fully playable on PC with an emu ?

      PutainDeGeek Yep, it's 99.9% arcade perfect, right down to working force feedback with my racing wheel.

    how were you able to record ps3 at 1080p60 tho?

    • @MrThunderwing
      @MrThunderwing  6 лет назад +1

      I use an Elagto HD for my video capture. I can either record 1080p at 30fps with it or 720p at 60fps with it. Here I reduced the PS3 resolution to 720p to preserve the frame rate when I was recording, but I upscaled the video back up to 1080p when I was editing it.

      MrThunderwing Ah okay. I use the Elgato HD as well so 1080p60 PS3 seemed bizarre, but I hadn't thought of upscaling.

      ferrarifan 68 No, I tried unsuccessfully to see if I could get it running on a virtual machine running Ubuntu. Like you say though, I heard it's not that good.

      Yeah, this is basically the RR series version of that iconic track.
