- Hello and welcome back to my channel for this week's video. In my workshop I suffer from condensation during the cold and wet days. This ensures that everything feels damp. Vential grilles did not help enough and that is why I thought about making a ventilation system from a bathroom ventilator. So that a constant flow of fresh air is attracted and keeping the costs to a minimum. I'm very happy with it. It does its job very well and already notice that there is much less to almost no condensation.
I used the following materials for this air ventilation system:
* NEDCO 100mm Standard bathroom ventilator (0,0014kw per hour)
* PLIEGER 1500mm x 100mm flex alu ventilation tube
* PLIEGER 100mm ventilation outlet.
* 2000mm electric wire and plug
* 4 piecies of 18mm "plywood 1220x160mm

To make it even cheaper you could save yourself two of the four long boards - and use the wall and the ceiling as a replacement. You're using a hose so you don't need an actual box, just some boards for decoration and support.
I imagine this fella’s lovely box may help reduce noise. I might have even stuffed his box with some insulation I reckon.

Great idea to make that tube that long. That way you have a good airflow in the complete shop.

Best to use ridgid duct. Way better airflow than flex hose

Thanks Kirstie! Up til now it works great. Almost no condensation now. And if there is any. It much faster dry again. Also works with fine sawdust
Hi Kristie- Sorry for butting in. I just wanted to share the simple ventilation I put into the shed off the back of my shop that houses the Dust Collector. I bought a 25-watt solar panel $35-US and 2 computer fans for $6.00. I needed a way to cool this shed and just to keep air moving. So I installed a computer fan on each side wall and ran some wires to the 12"x12" solar panel on the roof of the shop and it works like a charm. No batteries need it, though you could. I just know you can wire them directly and it will work. They have pre-cut screening for the computer fans, but I had an old screen window and cut two squares out and just glued the edges of the screen to a thin wood frame and attached them to the outside, over the hole where the fans are to keep bugs out. Nice! I’ve got just a furnace filter duct taped to a box fan. You’ll have to report back with an update on how well that works! Maybe I’ll upgrade some day!

A cigar lounge will need a stronger fan, in my opinion.

Very interesting! What I don't understand though with videos like this, is why the finished product is not shown first, so that one knows what you are working towards when constructing it. There is a reason why a picture of a puzzle is provided on the box when you buy it.

Can I ask, what is the benefit of mounting it off the wall? Why not just have the fan mounted directly to the wall and save from making the box and using the tube?
Noise from outside
Very nice work. What's the reason behind the long duct? Is it to suppress noise to/from outside?
Also, what do you use for sealant around plastic frame mounted outside to prevent rain water from creeping in?
I used the long duct so air would come from the middle of my shop. Instead of getting it directly from the door! Thanks for watching

There is always a lot of fine dust in the space of the work with me, and then it can be taken out.

Great tip and nice build! Question, would you recommend always the ventilator in the middle of the shop/shed? Can the fan also be facing downwards or should it be sidewards?
In my case i would recommend it because of the ventilation in the door directly under the ventilator. Now it pulls the air from the middle of my shop. Downwards is also fine but a bit more dificult to do. Because of the angle you have to make with the hose. Thank you for watching!

@@X3nTium Yes i made a airstrip in the door. indeed it is the old door from the tiny shed that i could re use! It opens towards the parking lot.😁

Have you seen much improvement with dust in your shed?? I have been toying with this idea with a 6 inch [150mm] inline extractor. If your standard 4 inch [100mm] works the the larger motor and air flow should be a goer..
Dust just a little. Mostly moisture which was the biggest problem i had! That is solved now 😊

Did you put the exhaust through the wooden box for a particular reason or just liked the look better?
i did it this way so i get the ventilator more to the centre of my chop.

Looks heavy? Most of our garages have Sheetrock, would have to mount it to the studs .
cool, but I think its enough only wood pipe or only foil pipe, why both?
How to get the fresh air in? From what I see this is set up to suck the air out?
I have shoved an exhaud fan in a carboard box near the vent in the garage i cant use it tho as the roof is old and there could be a chance of asbestos so i dont wanna risk disturbing it
Ik heb ook wel eens aan zoiets zitten denken, maar ik ben altijd bang dat ik alle warme(re) lucht naar buiten blaas en de werkplaats is vaak al zo koud... heb je daar over nagedacht? Of is je werkplaats niet verwarmd?
ik heb mijn werkplaats alleen verwarmd wanneer ik aan het klussen ben. dan trek ik de stekker van de ventilator er uit. Ik heb een elektrische verwarming. dat zou behoorlijk prijzig worden wanneer ik deze met regelmaat aan heb. Ik ben erg blij hiermee. veel minder vochtig. vochtvreters zitten lang zo snel niet vol meer.
Why the long box though? At first I thought it would be packed with filters.. But is just the tube...?

yes for me it is so it is more in the middle of my workshop
As a helpful hint, screwing into the plywood layers is not going to do well if the joint ever gets stressed. You are lucky it did not splinter up as you set the screws in. (Probably because you pilot holed those spots). It works much better to use a bead of wood glue then clamp or just tack together until the glue is dried. Much less headaches and a better construction. I think you’ll be pleased with the results. Hope that helps.

Nice little project. Question: Where are you pulling fresh air from? My garage shop has no source for pulling fresh air, but I would like to vent fumes.
The fresh air comes from outside!

I'm trying to figure out if I should add ventilation with a portable AC unit. The unit is not cooling very well in my garage, so will adding ventilation help or hurt?
I'm not really sure if that would help. If the AC doesn't do much i think it is to small for the area.
Most portable ac units will have one vent duct you would usually have to put on a window for it to blow out the hot air. If yours isn't cooling enough its either you haven't made a channel for it to vent out the hot air, or there's not enough insulation, or both. Have you insulated your garage door and sealed any major gaps? That helped me tremendously in keeping my garage cool even when it's 100 degrees outside.

3:00 finding the center and then making a circle of whatever measurements you need would have been the more accurate and "right" way to do this
I have no respect for people who use cheap tools. Remember, it's not what you do with tools it's how many expensive ones you own!
When watching instructional videos with sound, and yet not vocals, I can only assume the person is a mute, or is a Monk and has taken a vow of silence. Then I think, well, maybe they just think they sound grotesque, with a voice suitable for blog posts.
I'm just messin' with ya. Vocals are a language barrier, and any visual instruction can be easily understood by competent persons of any language.
I have to say though, as you used the ducting inside the box, I don't understand the need for the box, unless it's aesthetic only? The box, if you had used glue or silicon on the edges would have acted as the ducting.
I also noticed you did not flash or seal the exterior connection. This will allow water to be introduced not only into the duct box, but also the structure's wall, inside the structure, etc. This is very bad and *WILL* cause water stains, rot, and possible electrocution hazards. Don't do that. Even a beer can may be crafted into flashing with a pair of scissors. A heavy bead of caulking around the exterior would do wonders to prevent moisture penetration. No reason for that.

You could of just mounted your fan to the wall and saved the time and material of the box building.
i could have done that. but i wanted te vent to get the air more from the middle of my shop. so it won't take the air directly from the door.
@@Dutchshedwoodshop yeah...I considered that as your reason and what I was going to do as well. But after research I read that all lthough you may sense an immediate extraction from that immediate, central area, the garage as a whole will have the air extracted as a whole for the same given time for a wall mounted fan given a run of duct that short. Good job, though👍
Expensive and over complicated, entire wooden box is far too over engineereed (3/4" Ply ffs?), and relatively pointless for what you actually accomplish - you may as well have stuck the extractor straight into the wall as designed.
Most of these people in the comments have no idea lmao.
