  • Video 42 takes me to Eccles, a small mill town in Salford on the edge of the Manchester conurbation. Eccles is famous of course for it's cakes. This is Coronation Street country with the town centre being used regularly for filming the series. This railway station opened with the Manchester and Liverpool Railway. It is situated in a large cutting that it shares with the M602 which runs parallel with the line.
The station is served by Northern Rail services between Manchester and Liverpool, with First Trans Pennine Express and Arriva Trains Wales trains passing through. The video filmed on a Sunday lunchtime, includes a pair of the new TPE 350 EMU's speeding through.
The station consists of two through platforms plus a pair of disused platforms with a loop line, and has a modern ticket office at street level. There are a number of areas planted up including the banking and a number of local history boards up giving the history of the station and area.
