Oh how Doris Akers served her god so wonderfully. She bridged racial gaps that in her early days must have seemed to be chasms. But she just kept on giving to God and we miss her so very much. The wonderful thing about You Tube and the people who have a posting ministry here, such as you PrazHumn83, is that you can keep Doris Akers' giving to God going.. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this post.
I LOVE DORIS. Where ever I go and whatever church I play for, I will always include a selection by Doris. God gave her so many gifts. All her songs had wonderful melodies & terrific lyrics, one song said "If we loved Him, only half as much as He loved us, we would serve Him, and in Him we would place our trust"
Thank you for this tribute to Sister Doris Akers. She so richly deserves the ultimate pleasure of sitting and listening to her written song sung with so much heart. God Bless You Sister Akers you left us with such a rich, vibrant legacy. I could play your songs all day long and start over the next.
Go on Billy! You da Man. RIP. You continue to inspire us for you never strayed far from the river. Our roots are firmly planted by the Holy River from whence we are all nourished.
I really want a copy of the Gspel Legends VHS or DVD. I really don't care I want it. Gospel like this doesn't exist really anymore. this is what i was raised on, its old skool and its the right way.
you cant take it with you we are not promise tomorrow.we tends to get this song wrong its not only about things its about love too...TO GOD BE THE GLORY
This song will always be to the heart Sis Mobile Hairston sangs this at Saint Paul`s High Street Baptist in Martinsville Va with Bro Joseph Pritchete Jr on the piano. She is in her late 90`s
Thx for the posting!!! We can't beat God giving and in these last of the last days many need to truly know this..and sing it...Mal 3:10-12..1Chron 29:13,14...all things come from Thee O Lord, and of thine Own have we given Thee. I have been truly blessed and uplifted by the various Gospel Legends postings!!!
@JohnERakes - Sister Doris definitely participated in this recoding session. They perform her song "Lead Me, Guide Me"; She played piano and directed her song "Sweet, Sweet Spirit". However, a great deal was of it (like this song) was merely done impromptu in a rehearsal as they called out great songs of years gone by. This is how true legends rehearse! Bill Gaither had the foresight to have the cameras rolling.
Doris Akers is my absolute all time favorite. I grew up listening to the songs she sang and wrote. Life Eternal is my favorite. She wrote some beautiful songs.
@PentecostalBro07 That is Mr. Ralph (Uncle Ralph) GoodPasteur. He was also a great composer and singer. "To Me, It's So Wonderful", "Joybells, Ringing In My Soul", and "I'm Saved (And I Know That I Am)" are just a few of his compositions.
I got the cd and dvd sets from columbia records i was a member of their record club about 10 yrs ago also maloco records might have them, they produced them
@k999998 You're quite welcome! I guarantee you're going to love the selections in that hymnal...and the arrangements are great! For the most part, they're all done by good friends of mine: Rev. Nolan Williams (Editor-In-Chief of the book), Stephen Key, Richard Smallwood, etc.....YOU'LL LOVE IT!!
@rhardge You can't beat God's giving, no matter how you try. And just as sure as you are living, and the Lord is in heaven on high: The more you give, the more He gives to you. But keep on giving because it's really true that you can't beat God's giving, no matter how you try.
@PrazHymn83 That was nice of u. But i was just saying how they show Ralph H. Goodpasteur name in the video they should had put Doris Akers name of there too don't u think

@k999998 You can find it in just about any Baptist hymnal out there. Also, the African-American Heritage Hymnal has it.
This looks like the studio one or two of the Gaither Homecoming Videos were taped in.
This Whole Happening is not available on dvd because of copyright issues !
I asked the question to The Gaither People :-(
@mastertramell Duly noted. Thank you!
Who is the guy directing? Ive seen him around with a lot of legends for years.
@ejsmith08 Yup...that's him.
Where can I get the sheet music for this song? Brings back memories!!
ok the soprono's showed how its done at about 3:24 and billy preston showed how an organ should be played!
@baybjr You're exactly right. My bad.
He is killing that organ
As Aretha said back at the Filmore "Play Billy!"
@inquiz08 Yup...check my page. I posted a few more.
@PrazHymn83 That was nice of u. But i was just saying how they show Ralph H. Goodpasteur name in the video they should had put Doris Akers name of there too don't u think
I was wonderring whether or not the Billy Preston in this video is that of the same that sings, "nothing from nothing"?
i have searched every where...anyone know where i can get a copy of the Gspel Legends vol 1,2 & 3?
@PrazHymn83 WHEW LORD post all you got.
Is the whole concert available on dvd ?
They don't sing like this anymore...not even close.
Where can I find the archive for all these videos?
how can i get this on DVD?
When did Billy Preston die?
who is man in back with the shade on @3;36?
The organist is wicked...that is some nasty playing. That's what you call talent.
Someone thought they could beat God giving smh
