Nooooo Oxford world classics - I am such a penguin classics girl; their footnotes/endnotes for ancient and medieval texts tend to be much better than the Oxford World Classics. But! For 17th/18th century stuff, I am behind you on OWC. Anyway. Love a book haul. Love hearing about your course. Love you xxx

actually now u mention it that's kinda how my centuries have been split edition wise too!! my classics are all penguin classic (as are most of my 19th c things) and then 17/18th c are OWC and then my vintage ones are 20th c and then all my random editions are more 21st C.... i love this (also luv u miss u)

I am more your mums age and realise I too have created 3 of my own book monsters (also known as my children) ! As I can’t say no if they want a book .... my son is at uni studying politics (large reading list), daughter has an obsession with beautiful copies of books and my youngest also loves to read ... it is starting to get expensive ! :)

Your book videos are so different! They’re kind of.. rambly, but in a very good way! It’s so endearing to see someone so excited about a certain subject. Even though I don’t know about the enlightenment and classicism, this video was so entertaining and fun to watch. 💖

I think the way other lit courses get around the fact everything is connected is by incorporating modules that aren't 100% lit based into their degree programme. For example, I do a 'pure' English Lit degree, but one of my first year modules was Classical and Biblical Lit which helps you understand how later texts draw on the classical and Biblical cannon.

I never liked my major in university, but one day I discovered your channel and the study of Comparative Literature. Comp Lit has been such an enlightening experience and I cannot wait to continue my degree in it. I just wanted to thank you SO MUCH for inspiring me to change my major because it is probably one of the best decisions I have made. I love seeing your videos and how you talk about books! :D

As a Brazilian, my heart swelled when you said "topics in Afro Brazilian culture"!! So I would like to recommend Captains of the Sand by Jorge Amado, but I assume that was included in the module... Anyhow it's great!

Girl, I'm literally deep into Dom Juan right now for my French literature course (Centre and Periphery)! We had to get the GF:Flammarion edition though (all French) which makes the reading a lot slower. I also love how you pronounced Dom Juan the Spanish way - doing it in a French class requires us all to say it in the pochest Parisian accent ever :D Sounds weird, but would you mind sharing a bit of the secondary reading recommend in your version (as I don't have access to that)? Enjoy the reading and the last term of your degree!!

Have you heard / do you know about Philippa Gregory's (I think) dissertation subject? It was something about how the trope of marriage based on love in literature changed the actual attitude of society towards marriage... I heard her talk about it in an interview and was blown away, cuz I'd never before thought about that :)

I'd be really interested comparing high school literary home-works from France and England.. For example, here everybody knows some literature classics and plays, and even some names...
