The M340d is an absolute sleeper with currently one of the best diesel engines available on the automotive market.The car is the perfect companion for all journeys.

Yes, maybe the second best Diesel engine. Better engine is the Alpina D3s and of course the Alpina D5s and the Quadturbo M550d (400hp).

I rented one of these for a week in Europe. A great car. Perfect comfortable everyday car with tons of power reserve and space and a very decent sports car with impressive engine torque, and very good handling at the same time... Daily and sports car at the same time. Loved it.
Diesel cars are just the best. I have an E46 320D and the sound of the engine was almost the sole reason I bought it. It has the complete package of everything you could ever want.

Lovely car. Had i6 BMW diesels for 25 years but moved over to a G21 M340i as I don't do the mileage anymore (and worried about the local politics against diesel esp as I buy outright). Think I might have been better off with the 40d though but both the 40i and 40d are superb engines.
I remember when i took a bmw 320d for touring, fantastic car and gave fantastic mileage.

Instead of putting 4 turbos on the 3.0 inline 6 wich‘ll stress and maybe kill the engine soon and with the turbos probably dying soon they should’ve made and put a Biturbo or Turbo 4.4 V8 Diesel for the M550d like Audi does with the SQ7. If the M550i has a V8 why shouldn’t the M550d also have a V8 ?

Really wish we got diesels in the states. Especially since it’s cheaper than Premium over here.
We got a few here, BMW gave us the E90 335D, X5 35D's, F10 535D (530D everywhere else on earth), G12 740D (730D everywhere else). Mercedes gave use the W210 E300TD with the legendary OM606 turbo, as well as the W211 E320 CDI with the OM648. Plus a lot of TDI offerings from VAG, including the VW Touareg V10 TDI. Downside is, a lot of the US offerings got slammed with stricter emissions equipment that was unreliable and costly to repair. The E90 335D is probably the best overall diesel car (especially for tuning) we got here in the states, 2011 even offered an M-Sport trim which really prolonged the E90's styling.
@@HellDoubleNo oh I know we used to get them but I wouldn’t want something 10-15 years old. I mean brand new which in the EU almost every brand offers a diesel option for their trims. Most of what we get here is gas or some sort of mild hybrid. The latter of which aren’t as simple as a good old Diesel engine.
I also asked about why they got rid of them from a couple of dealers (BMW, Mercedes and Audi) and they all said the same thing. They just weren’t popular over here and no one bought them. Diesel has a negative view over here as a really dirty fuel that only lifted truck owners drive with a black cloud behind them.

Love my audi a4 quattro and would love to have a bulky 6 cylinder diesel ( m340d or 50 tdi )in the near future.
I really wish we had this model variant in South Africa. I see now they even doing away with BMW's 3l diesel here too and sticking to the 2l

I own this car. Super smooth engine but the seats are a little bit small for "big" people. I'm going to switch to a 540d lci. When you do a lot of long distance I would'nt recommend the 340d. But the xdrive is very good because it's a heavy car. Xdrive is better then my previous 750d lci but I broke the turbo's. Quad turbo not good if you live in a hot country and push the car to his limits.

I also own this car and i love it for long distance, the seats are very comfy and i am 190cm tall.

I wonder why if the M3&4 launch in second gear the M diesels don’t. Not like they don’t has enough torque
Often times the M3&4 RWD models launch in 2nd gear for better traction but with the xdrive it's not really that necessary
When you accelerate in normal condition (not launch control) it uses 2nd gear (at least in the 335d f31 as far as i know)

Why??? E90 is the best looking 3 series ever, along with E46.
Plus, it has Hydraulic Steering with proper feedback.
This new BMW is way too big and heavy, and has a light, dead electric steering.
It also doesn't look near as good as the E90 3 series.
Hey guys...this is the ultimate car hands down. Its fas ok...but its a freeking save on disel. I drove from work 42 km and in save mod i got 3,8 liters per 100 km. Is BMW playing triks on me or wat. Had the 2.0 d befour but never thes consuming numbers ever. By the way top speed figur ar correkt 254 km/h.

Got 340i LCI roughly 3 months ago, i tend to do lot of miles monthly, but the efficiency on highway is pretty good 6l / 100 km when cruising at 110 kph, however its way worse in the city 10-12l and 15+ when pushing the car. I would likely pick 340d if i'd be choosing again. Had a chance to drive one feels pretty similar.

Well the diesel engine is very good because you have a lot of power and specially a lot of torque, the consuming is the best again, and the price for each liter right now is again the best. Gasoline and other fuel are more expensive. GREAT DIESEL, just 1 thing not like "the sound" (unfortunately), there the Gasoline is the Best. that's all

Only the 50D models get the 3.0 QuadTurbo engine. The 3 series doesnt come with the 50D model.
