"I'M A FAN BOY AND I DON'T CARE" MY LIFE MOTTO TBH.
IT HAS BEEN ON MY MOST PLAYED PLAYLIST FOREVER.
Alternative title:
"Voice Teacher Fanboying the Shit out of Underoath (And Doesn't Care)"

A vocal teacher that actually wants to react to metal singers? Please do more! No idea you were a metalhead?! Love ya that much more Sam!
He reacted to Jinjer. You should watch that video :)
ffs underoath IS NOT METAL!
lucas arteta post-hardcore
This is post-hardcore. I wonder if he likes Thursday?
Not metal.. post hardcore. Basically heavy punk music.
This is hardcore, played by talented people. It doesn’t matter the little mistakes or not being able to really hold the notes. This is supposed to be a family singing together. The energy and everyone singing along... it’s how it’s supposed to be .
Nailed it.
I never expected you to ever react to an underoath video! I've been friends with Aaron Gillespie for about 28 years. Our parents were in a southern gospel quartet group. Maybe you can also react to the almost as well.
Donny Tucker Aaron solo stuff is good too. This song on his last solo record was so different then this but still good
The Almost is slept on by a lot of people IMO. Deserved to be way more popular than it is.
Dude yes! The almost is badass!
Say This Sooner 😬
It is sad that they have strayed so far from their christian roots.
Sam Johnson...you are an enigma
"I'm a fan boy and I don't care."
SAME, QUEEN
Saw them for the first time a couple weeks ago and the mosh was real
"I'm a fanboy and I don't care." Nice!! This song was such a hit when it came out.
And still holds up so well
I think this is my favorite video yet. I 🖤 metal fan boys the most.
angeladeluna Oh wassup I'm a metal fan boy :3
@@brandonvalle1631 💋🖤🤘
Underoath is metal🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
@@metallovingmama3853 not extreme metal
@@angeladeluna its not any kind of metal
When I subbed to you last month I had no idea how similar our music tastes would be. Underoath was the band that inspired me to pick up a guitar and opened up an entire genre to millions. Aaron was my hero from 5th to 12th grade. And while I’ve been let down by their recent albums I still root for them and love seeing them touring again. They’re only chasing safety got me through some tough times
I audibly said “Oh hell yeah” when I saw this vid
Wish Sam had his long hair here so he could rock out his metal head 😆
Always impressed by people who can sing well and drum at the same time. That's some insane coordination!
Aaron is just such a great singer. Man I spent way too much of my teen years screaming this song 😂
I would love a Sam Johnson shirt that just says "Somewhere between Scream and that beautiful emo belt." plz
PRINT IT AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Same
YES
Can I order one too??
Just watched the add without skipping, take that money Sam ♥️
Aimy Realaileean wait - people lose money when you skip the ads???????
Kim Christian Well they don’t lose money but they don’t get any either. There’s like a million criterias to RUclipsr actually making money from their videos actually, but adds are the main ones :)
I hope what I said made sense, I’m not English
Me too! Lol
never been super into underoath but this is definitely more of my scene! would love to see more pop punk, hardcore, and metalcore type of stuff!
Same!!
Define the great line is the one of the best albums ever. By them. They're only chasing safety, and lost in the sound of separation, though not as good, are great in their own right
Joseph Staaf I was going to comment the same. Define the Great Line is a masterpiece
I'd love to see you do something with Emaros with Johnny Craig. They've got some acoustic stuff and he just sounds incredible. I just wanna know if he's as good as I think he is lol
Johnny Craig is incredibly talented but in my opinion he just does the one thing with his voice across all of his music and it just bores me. No denyin his skill tho
DGD > Emarosa. Also Johnny Craig is a great singer but also a huge prick.
Actually came down to ask for the new Slaves song to be analysed. Glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoys his voice.
Bro I'm asking him to do it too, maybe we can spam and make it happen. I desperately want him on here.
But also, Jonny left Emarosa a long time ago, don't confuse the man. His solo stuff and Slaves is what you meant to say.
“Spencer’s amazing.” Totally agree. Seen them live 3 times and I was blown away each time.
You keep making videos on my music loves - lots of kpop, which was initially unexpected, then Dimash and now Underoath. I'm glad you're back, please keep with the punk/rock/metal videos!
also Nothing But Thieves
I've never heard of this band! I'm so gonna check out their music later ✊
SWEET, i recommend as far as albums go DEFINE THE GREAT LINE and LOST IN THE SOUND OF SEPARATION the most, but the other albums are great as well
You will be sooooo pleased, enjoy!!
@@soulexchangemusic Thanks for the rec. I'll check them out 😉

This would be a great one
YES!! One of my favorite metal songs vocally!
Man, what a reminder that I could literally listen to Howard sing all day.
I was wondering wether you'd cover more hardcore vocals, this is super interesting. Also love Underoath :D
Would you consider analyzing Davey Havok’s (AFI) vocals? His range is freaking amazing. I would love to hear you break down his ability more so I can understand why his voice always gives me goosebumps
Yaaaaaaaaaassssssss!
Okay yes thisssss
Genni L yes for real, AFI!
I'm late to this party, but 100% here for it!!!
Would be nice to hear your opinion of Floor Jansen's voice, so I suggest Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Live from Wacken 2013)
I want Sam to review Floor so badly. If there's any vocalist I'd aspire to sound like, it's Floor.
Omg yesss pls
Yeeeeeeees!!! Been requesting this one too, I'd love to hear Sam's opinion on her voice.
Wacken version is not as good as Buenos Aires (official live)
@@Un4GivNX is a very personal matter, I'm more into the Wacken version because I find it a little more refined. Let's just agree sam needs to see one of either versions. 😁
Do a video with coheed and Cambria!!!!!! Ugh Claudio is just amazing
YES YES YES
OMG I know nothing about vocal technique but every time I fangirl about Pierce the Veil, (old) Asking Alexandria, (old) Sleeping With Sirens, Chiodos, (mid-age) Bring Me the Horizon... I sound like Sam Johnson.
I love the way these guys transition from really cleeeann high vocals and screaming. so good.
One video a day, all week. Thanks for coming back.
The fist time I saw one of your vids it was a suggestion in my feed, suddenly I spend my sunday watching all of them.
And I don't even know anything about music or vocals 😂
It's just so relaxing, but now I understand more every detail that you correct, I mean like then you talk about the sound coming from your chest or head or when they sing "easy and smooth" and when they may hurt their voice unnecessary... Ok I'm lost. All I wanted to say is thanks for sharing this , keep posting often and I really like your videos. ✌🏼
That was one of my favorite songs when I was in high school. It takes me back to my scene/emo years.
Was never a big fan myself but you are so stinking adorable with your fanboy self. 😍
Edit: its not that I don't appreciate the music, its just a bit not my preferred genre . dun crucify me plsthx
Okay, I'll put the cross back... :(
It's so cool to see you enjoying this one!! I'm seeing Underoath live twice next week and I can't wait. Last time I saw them was on the tour in this video and it was incredible.
I'm newer to your channel so I'm going through your library. This band was everything to me growing up (I'm 29). I remember when I first heard "When The Sun Sleeps" and was hooked ever since. I finally saw them live for the first time in Sacramento this year and had one of the best times of my life. Love your videos, thank you.
I'm a metal/rock/punk girl who loves a whole bunch of other styles, too. Haven't stumbled across these guys yet - but love the sound and got the stupid feeling I got some catching up to do. Thanks for reacting to this one, Mr. Johnson :3
Oh man, I smiled from ear to ear when I saw the title. I love the mix of genres on your channel Sam, keeps the content really interesting!
I've never heard of these guys! Thanks for the introduction. They're really good!
Yo Sam, when will we get more reactions like this? ;) Love your videos man - but especially this stuff. Thanks for your content! I'm not even an aspiring singer, but I love what you offer.
I love this song! Such nostalgia!
Spencer Chamberlain is an absolute monster.
Perfect timing, I'm seeing them tomorrow!
Please make a video with your reaction to Sam Carter, preferably the live version of 'Doomsday' at Alexandra Palace.
slxxr architects?
@@dwightanthony9248 yeah
Fuck yeeeeeeeaaahhhh Sam carter
Yess!!
That's a good one but I also like the gone with the wind version of holy ghost documentary
I never thought I'd see Underoath here hahaha I love this song! Amazing video ♡
Your channel is one of maybe like 3, that I watch every upload and actually can't wait for. Fucking love your stuff.
thanks for covering metal stuff btw
Underoath is fucking back baby.
Ive been listening to them endlessly for the past 2 years more than I did when they were making music and Its felt so good just waiting for them to come back and theyve really been doing things this year im so happy
Underoath is just incredible. I finally saw them last month for the first after listening for over 9 years. Needless to say quite an emotional experience. Thanks for this video, would love more in the genre, maybe Architects?
Never heard this song before nor have I heard of this band.. but now that I have, I am in love
It's so amazing watching you analyze something you already love. Seeing you silently recite the lyrics is low-key super wholesome. I'm also a huge fan of post-hardcore and metalcore so this video hits a more special place than any other video of yours.
Another great video of you reacting/analyzing a video. Love seeing you Fan out. No matter the genre, you are always honest and informative. Thank you
Nigthwish - Ghost love score (live wacken 2013)
PLEASE BRING MORE REACTS OF THIS KIND OF BANDSSSSSSSSS
Reposting my obligatory "PLEASE REACT TO NIGHTWISH "
I am a longtime nightwish fan. They've had 3 very different yet talented singers. My personal favorite is Floor Jansen but only because I followed her career alongside nightwish (in After Forever) and I have always adored her voice above all others (except Doro because its friggin Doro. She's a legend)
PONY of the VILLAGE Pony!!!
@@jen.g. 😂😘
I have not been well, I have missed so much of youtube ..... Good to see you and to see you have fun! I am a heavy music fan as a rule though have a broad liking in mostly still rock music. I am going to say it is just good to see you like this!
I haven’t listened to underoath in years but I still know every word 😂 would you consider doing an analysis on the vocals from the Plot In You? Preferably the happiness in self destruction area where he actually shows his range and flexibility as a vocalist.
Love your videos!
Genni L yes thank you for this suggestion, Sam please please review Landon tewers from the plot in you Jesus he’s the most underrated metal vocalist right now I’ve been studying him for years now and I know so many people could learn so much from hearing you’re breakdown of Landon’s technique not to mention he’s skilled AND talented as fuck
I’m a fan boy too... of your channel
Saw them live last month and they were amazing! I would go see them again in a heartbeat
omg the fanboying is so relatable lmao. i’m living for the emo/metal music, i’d love to see more.
This makes me so happy, I dont know why it just does. I Love that you're an Underoath fan, this just solidified why I am a subscriber.
You really have made me appreciate this music a little more. I am fascinated by the Fry Scream you talk about : I always thought they were destroying their voice doing this. Amazing
I really appreciate the fact that you love all types of music. It was really cool watching you lose yourself in the song too. I saw Underoath n Thrice( Do Thrice!!) for the first time last May. I was so stoked.
YES YES! More metal content YESSSS \m/
would you ever invite Melissa cross to make a review with her?
Danilo Gentile dude YES
As someone who uses a lot of distortion and different types of distortion, I love the fact you're evaluating bands and artist that use the same techniques and further explaining. Ive been screaming for over 9 years now and continue to learn how to perfect my craft through these types of videos! THANK YOU!
Hands down one of the best bands I’ve seen live. They’re musical masterminds, and had the honor not only to see them live at ROTR but go to an acoustic set earlier this year. Amazing musicians, and I’m so glad they’re creating again. Great reaction and analysis Sam!
More alternative :) maybe Chris Cornell singing Billie Jean live acoustic ? Amazing rendition
Agreed, I would love to see him talk about Cornell
@@jennyskaggs6736 Sam did ("Nearly Lost My Broken Heart"), but he should do much more!
@@mireilleblacke6567 you're totally right! I forgot about that video! I need to rewatch!
Aaron screams lol, not to this extent BUT he had a really good side gig called The Almost where he was the lead vocalist. Love that you reviewed this song!!
I love when I watch videos like this and am introduced to new music. I love Thursday and this reminds me of them. Thank you!
I'm so happy you reacted to UNDEROATH! 😍 I'M A HUGE FAN!
Good to know you like to switch up from time to time! It makes me happy to see someone with an open ear to different sounds! 👏
It’s really nice to see these voice critic videos going over some heavy music, I think with a lot of people the techniques and talent involved get overlooked because they are ‘just screaming’
Not to do a video on. But check out Jonny Davy with Suicide Silence on the Mitch Lucker Memorial show! He’s doing low growls with his mouth wide open! He’s superhuman!
In Vacant Mouth, Spencer does the cleanest transition from fry scream to clean belt I've ever heard in my life. Shit is incredible
I love that you're analyzing this song. Seriously made me so nostalgic!!
Saw them live in 2007. Went for a few other bands but was absolutely blown away by how great Underoath sounded live.
best band ever!!! love them! such memories (high-school in 2005...those were the days!) can you do some issues? tyler carter is a very cool r'n'b singer, blending with metal music.
This is one of the songs from my youth that still randomly gets stuck in my head. CAN YOU FEEL YOUR HEART BEAT RACING. I'm a redhead and have always had long hair. I'm not even ashamed to admit I used to straighten my hair every day to look more like Aaron in general or just have "that look".
I love watching your videos and couldn't believe when I saw this title. Also, kind of curious, have you ever considered doing a video about your time in Hong Kong?
underoath is my favorite since i was a kid! i know already im going to love this
It's always so fascinating watching you explain this stuff, and what with you also being a big fan of them and just also having Fun watching this made this just a really entertaining reaction to watch :))
Sam, you’re one of my favorite creators on this platform. You’re so knowledgeable and kind and funny! Keep it up!
I was fortunate enough to be able to make it to their playthrough of They’re Only Chasing Safety and Define The Great Line in Melbourne and their performance was nothing short of flawless. Easily one of my all time favourite bands. Cheers for the vid.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and love them, but as a massive Underoath fan this was especially great to watch! I always knew you had great taste 😉
I also wanted to say that I've gone through of alot vocal trainers on RUclips but I've narrowed it down to three of you. But you in particular seem to have a gift for knowing the notes they hit and generally how difficult it is for them to hit it.
Oh and no I'll never be taking lessons myself but I am learning alot from the 3 of you as to why vocals sound good or different depending variables and just in general what it takes to do what they do. Always been curious and now I have a means to answer my questions.
So thanks again Sam for getting me new knowledge
What about Atreyu? Brandon Saller the drummer is insane live and studio anglelical.
Rodrigo Guedes he’s also the mastermind
I just saw them live in Baltimore. Blew me away.
Hail the Sun-Donovan Melero is another monster who sings and drums. He’s sooo good
The lead singer is pretty bad live unfortunately
Classic! This song takes me back. I love your videos!
Aww I remember when I had an Underoath poster on my wall growing up ♥️. How fun and super interesting to see you analyze this! Would love to see more reactions to artists you enjoy.. I follow you bc of your joy and interest in what you do.
The fact that you love underoath as much as I do and that you shouted out Melissa Cross makes me so happy
Didn’t know UnderØath would be your style! So great to see how passionate you are for this genre!
I saw them last Saturday, they were incredible! Your fanboying is adorable btw haha
You should do Flyleaf's "I'm So Sick" from the Family Values Tour!
Have you listened to how Mastodon does all of their vocals? Almost all of the band sings in some songs.
Still get goosebumps for this song. My sister and I were huge UO fans and saw them together quite a few times. This was our song. They still play it live so good. She put me on messenger live with her when they played Warped Tour back there this summer, and I cried while singing the whole thing with her at the top of our lungs in the parking lot of a restaurant I was at. It was still perfect. I love that you are a fan and react to this stuff too. You are amazing. I know so many people who don't regard heavier vocals/screaming or growling to be vocals and that is their excuse for why this isn't really music, but you get it. Man. Awesome.
I love the enthusiasm you have while analyzing this video. I was really excited to see you reacting to this performance. I love Underoath (and miss Sleepwave haha). You're awesome Sam!
One of my favorite bands of all time. I'm glad you did this, as opposed to your usual speed, please do more bands! AND PLEASE do a reaction to best of Jonny Craig.
I just came across your channel and if I can afford it I SO want you to be my coach! You are so clear in your explanations and so knowledgeable. Congratulations on an amazing channel!

This is my favourite Underoath song! I saw them for the first time in Toronto last year and was so impressed by a really passionate live performance

Oh I love this song so much! Great that you reacted to it.
Omg it’s my favorite song by Underoath!!!
God, this makes me regret missing their show last month more than I already do.
YESSS!! UNDEROATH! It was so great to see how you knew all the words and how much you respect their music! I agree: their music is very clever and not easy to sing at all. Always great to meet more Underoath fans! This was one of the best videos 😁👍🏻
