Here I am, doing your BR Emergency Prepardness course and laugh off buying a $500 generator unit --- until I see the energy crisis going on in India and China and how high energy prices will be here soon I go and buy the best unit at $2k. I guess I am just crazy, but I and my family will be safe. Thanks, BR team!!

Bummer Doug! We're working our way through the program and just bought the 500 watt. There were two recommended so we went with the larger one. Now I wished I'd bought the thousand watt one. I don't think the 500 will charge the refrigerator.
Yes but the bigger units will be heavier and if you need to bug out quickly, it will be easier for you. My unit is a 50 pounder so that is the downside, but I bought it for my fridge too.
Ice storm in my area years ago. Some without power for a week or two. Army called in for relief. Generators were being stolen and I remember front page news showing a guy with a shotgun in his window keeping watch over his generator. Society breaks down quickly when power goes out. This was only a week or two. Imagine 1 month or two

How many hours of sun do you need to church the solar panels? Just thinking if there was a whole week of cloudiness, what to do then.

I have a Jackery Explorer 1000 Portable Power Station and two 100 w solar panels. Is there an extension cable that allows the panels to be set up farther from the Power Station. Jackery does not offer one.
