Thank you for posting this! I am a Christian and was married to a non-practiving Muslim man for 18 years. Finally divorced 2017. He always tried to tell me that I should "use my head" and realize God would not have a son and allow him to be killed.
God having a son, Jesus, & allowing him to be crucified is just God coming to earth & demonstrating to us in person how to live, how to deal with issues; it's just like how a good parent demonstrates how to cook a dish to the child by their side or teaches a child how to change a tire on a car by having the child watch them & assist them in order to learn how. Jesus being crucified shows us that God is with us in our own injustices in life & teaches us to deal with these tnings through prayer & forgiveness so we don't destroy the rest of our lives being bitter & seeking revenge. Obviously, there's much more to it than that theologically, but I think that helps explain it in a way that someone with no understanding of Judaism & then Christianity can understand it.

I’d never been inspired to read the founding of Islam. I’ve tried variously over the years to read more or the Koran, esp when I was blindly seeking spiritual truths with the net cast ridiculously wide, but could tell straight away that it was a rambling work devoid of any inspiration to know the divine through love. But reading the story of Mohammed’s early life, his regard for the revelations and especially the role that Khadīja bint Khuwaylid played. Yowsers. I think he was hen pecked. And the potential role of his much lauded feminist first wife is extraordinary. Almost makes me feel sorrow for Mohammed in those formative times as it seems it was his wife that led him much further down the garden path, obviously under the influence of the Satan. I can almost see a time where a devout and knowledgeable Muslim would visit again the history, ponder on the crucial death and resurrection of our Lord, realise his full divinity and find him(or her) self smack bang in the middle of a conversion to Jesus. They’re primed to a large degree. Monotheistic, tradition leading back to Adams and Eve, schooled in the life of Jesus with some amazing acknowledgments about his existence ….. all it would take is some critical reading of Islamic history and BOOM! Wow, that’s so exciting to think they’re so close ! Much the same as our Jewish brethren. Sooo close !

Been reading the Quran quite a bit lately and it does strongly discourage going back and reviewing Bible scripture, “beware of false prophets” as the Bible says. Don’t get me wrong I’ve really enjoyed some parts of the Quran and learned a bit about what middle eastern culture is, almost took my shahada and converted but I just couldn’t get passed denying the crusifiction and downgrading Christ PBUH. But I will speak to their reverence compared to protestants at least. Their days seem to be about revolving around God, putting him right at the center every single day. Where as many protestants just go through the motions. We need more spirituality in protestant churches.

I think it's interesting that David would choose surah 109 Al-Kafirun "The Unbeliever" to end this segment. That surah had the opposite of his intended effect on me the first time I read the Quran many years ago, it made me want to know more about Islam. I had been pursuing a monastic vocation within the church in the early 2000's and all I ever heard about Islam was how awful and terrible it was, but all my Muslim friends were the most God fearing, respectful, family oriented, and religious people I knew. Hello, I am a Neophyte, so please forgive my ignorance, and I want to preface my question with clarification that I am in no way trying to offend our Blessed Mother. However, I am struggling to get on board with Marian doctrine. I want to have a more meaningful relationship with Mary, but often, I struggle to draw the line between the dulia, hyperdulia, and latria. As David pointed out about the Cranes of the Satanic verses-praying to these false gods, and they in turn would take the prayers to Allah- it struck me as similar to our beliefs about Mary's intercession. Can someone here help correct my thinking on this?
Awesome question! The key difference is that Mary is a real living person, who in the fullness of her being offers prayers on *our behalf*, whereas these godesses here are being portrayed as merely carrying up (or redirecting) the prayers to Allah. So if we ask Mary to intercede for us, we do so knowing that "the prayer of a righteous man avails much", and that if our prayers might be impeded by our own sin or spiritual weakness, Mary (who is far more righteous than we are and is God's own mother) would have no such impediment. To give a concrete example, if I pray "Mary, please help heal my friend", her response might be to go to the Lord and say "his friend needs healing" (think of the Wedding of Cana). The goddesses here sound as if they would not be speaking from their own personhood, but function more as mouthpieces for our prayers that would simply reiterate the same prayer to Allah closer to his 'ear'. So "heal my friend" would be communicated as "heal my friend". Hope that makes the difference clear. As a bit of an aside, it's worth noting that there are similar Traditions in Christianity regarding angels carrying up our prayers to God like these goddesses, so it's not like the concept is completely alien in a Christian framework. The key and crucial difference here is that there is an ancient and sophisticated theology around angels that obviously is not the case with these last-minute added goddesses. Also full disclosure: I'm actually Orthodox but I hope everything I've said is harmonious with how a Catholic brother or sister would respond :D

Hi! I am a year late I know, but I am a catholic I would love to respond. I am by no means an expert on Catholicism yet, I’m a teenager. However, I do have something to say about Mary. Mary is the holy mother of God. She is sinless because Jesus is sinless. God chose Jesus to be born from Mary because of that. His mother would have to be without original sin, and also Jesus would be sinless as well. Also, every word in the Bible has a purpose, a lesson for us. The best example is the wedding of Cana in Galilee. Mary was the one to ask Jesus to turn the water into wine, which is representing what we should do, ask Mary to tell Jesus to help us. That is why we have intersession. A mother’s love is one of the biggest ever, therefore Mary can get to Jesus fast, and she is our mother as well. I hope this helps too

I think if Jesus is the only one God that we should pray for him and there is no other Gods, its the same concept after all, the names will not matter. Wood's incompetence and sheer ignorance is so self-evident that it is hard to take this video seriously. A more fitting conversation between these two might be to speculate as to why Christianity is dropping numbers left right and center and why their arguments and beliefs are so not compelling even as Islam expands. Two men patting each other on the back and none of them have the courage to bring an actual Muslim into the conversation. Well, Woods did that in his debate with Hijab and was throttled publicly for it. God having a son, Jesus, & allowing him to be crucified is just God coming to earth & demonstrating to us in person how to live, how to deal with issues; it's just like how a good parent demonstrates how to cook a dish to the child by their side or teaches a child how to change a tire on a car by having the child watch them & assist them in order to learn how. Jesus being crucified shows us that God is with us in our own injustices in life & teaches us to deal with these tnings through prayer & forgiveness so we don't destroy the rest of our lives being bitter & seeking revenge. Obviously, there's much more to it than that theologically, but I think that helps explain it in a way that someone with no understanding of Judaism & then Christianity can understand it.

You know, I know I’m 3 years lat. I am a catholic, but I’ve recently had an interest in Islam, and I learned more about it and realized how much harm Muhammed did. It frustrates me to see Muslims praising him not realizing what he’s done.
I’d never been inspired to read the founding of Islam. I’ve tried variously over the years to read more or the Koran, esp when I was blindly seeking spiritual truths with the net cast ridiculously wide, but could tell straight away that it was a rambling work devoid of any inspiration to know the divine through love.
But reading the story of Mohammed’s early life, his regard for the revelations and especially the role that Khadīja bint Khuwaylid played. Yowsers. I think he was hen pecked. And the potential role of his much lauded feminist first wife is extraordinary.
Almost makes me feel sorrow for Mohammed in those formative times as it seems it was his wife that led him much further down the garden path, obviously under the influence of the Satan.
I can almost see a time where a devout and knowledgeable Muslim would visit again the history, ponder on the crucial death and resurrection of our Lord, realise his full divinity and find him(or her) self smack bang in the middle of a conversion to Jesus.
They’re primed to a large degree. Monotheistic, tradition leading back to Adams and Eve, schooled in the life of Jesus with some amazing acknowledgments about his existence ….. all it would take is some critical reading of Islamic history and BOOM! Wow, that’s so exciting to think they’re so close !

It is thus clear that those who place any faith in his words believe foolishly.

Hi all, can someone suggest an objective book on Muhammed’s life ideally written by Muslims?
Been reading the Quran quite a bit lately and it does strongly discourage going back and reviewing Bible scripture, “beware of false prophets” as the Bible says. Don’t get me wrong I’ve really enjoyed some parts of the Quran and learned a bit about what middle eastern culture is, almost took my shahada and converted but I just couldn’t get passed denying the crusifiction and downgrading Christ PBUH. But I will speak to their reverence compared to protestants at least. Their days seem to be about revolving around God, putting him right at the center every single day. Where as many protestants just go through the motions. We need more spirituality in protestant churches.
It is revolved around heaven and hell, for the most of the verses. I was in madrasa for 12 years and all I can say is punishment what makes many muslims are devoted to God. Since I convert, I can see the contrast why Christians are mostly so chill bout their faith.

I was born in a Muslim family. At childhood,I didn't even think that their can be atheism exist. When i first saw in internet that many people don't believe in religions,I was about to cry and my condition became seriously bad. But now,I believe in atheism. When i started thinking freely,then i found Islam is absolutely false. All the parts of Islam became false in my mind which were being believed by me for a long time. But,I can't express the truth to my family members because they'll kick out me from home. I have to pray every time with them and it is very much disgusting for me. But when I'll be an adult,I'll left Islam by law and so that people will recognise me as an atheist. Neither,my life will be meaningless and my future children will hate me for not leaving Islam.

Mohammed firstly realised that religion s are fake and he was finding a way to become famous and be remembered. At the age of 40,he successfully made a religion be following ancient religions. He made all the rules of Islam(like-a holy book,praying physically and mentally,the theory of life after death!etc) by following ancient religions. He then made a good number of followers by giving birth hundreds of children in a family(a normal servant of him had hundreds of children,then think,what will be the story of other peoples!)and then started to fight against innocent people and destroyed their religions. I think it's interesting that David would choose surah 109 Al-Kafirun "The Unbeliever" to end this segment. That surah had the opposite of his intended effect on me the first time I read the Quran many years ago, it made me want to know more about Islam. I had been pursuing a monastic vocation within the church in the early 2000's and all I ever heard about Islam was how awful and terrible it was, but all my Muslim friends were the most God fearing, respectful, family oriented, and religious people I knew. Monks & Nuns do lots of WORK: teaching at the Catholic schools, working at churches, visiting hospitals & families, visiting prisoners, working with the homeless and doing missionary work, to name a few.
Also, they pray & sing daily for 5 hrs - & they rise very early to pray. St. James said that prayers of true Christians bear lots of fruit (James 5).

Hello, I am a Neophyte, so please forgive my ignorance, and I want to preface my question with clarification that I am in no way trying to offend our Blessed Mother. However, I am struggling to get on board with Marian doctrine. I want to have a more meaningful relationship with Mary, but often, I struggle to draw the line between the dulia, hyperdulia, and latria. As David pointed out about the Cranes of the Satanic verses-praying to these false gods, and they in turn would take the prayers to Allah- it struck me as similar to our beliefs about Mary's intercession. Can someone here help correct my thinking on this?
Awesome question! The key difference is that Mary is a real living person, who in the fullness of her being offers prayers on *our behalf*, whereas these godesses here are being portrayed as merely carrying up (or redirecting) the prayers to Allah.
So if we ask Mary to intercede for us, we do so knowing that "the prayer of a righteous man avails much", and that if our prayers might be impeded by our own sin or spiritual weakness, Mary (who is far more righteous than we are and is God's own mother) would have no such impediment. To give a concrete example, if I pray "Mary, please help heal my friend", her response might be to go to the Lord and say "his friend needs healing" (think of the Wedding of Cana).
The goddesses here sound as if they would not be speaking from their own personhood, but function more as mouthpieces for our prayers that would simply reiterate the same prayer to Allah closer to his 'ear'. So "heal my friend" would be communicated as "heal my friend". Hope that makes the difference clear.
As a bit of an aside, it's worth noting that there are similar Traditions in Christianity regarding angels carrying up our prayers to God like these goddesses, so it's not like the concept is completely alien in a Christian framework. The key and crucial difference here is that there is an ancient and sophisticated theology around angels that obviously is not the case with these last-minute added goddesses.
Also full disclosure: I'm actually Orthodox but I hope everything I've said is harmonious with how a Catholic brother or sister would respond :D

Hi! I am a year late I know, but I am a catholic I would love to respond. I am by no means an expert on Catholicism yet, I’m a teenager. However, I do have something to say about Mary. Mary is the holy mother of God. She is sinless because Jesus is sinless. God chose Jesus to be born from Mary because of that. His mother would have to be without original sin, and also Jesus would be sinless as well. Also, every word in the Bible has a purpose, a lesson for us. The best example is the wedding of Cana in Galilee. Mary was the one to ask Jesus to turn the water into wine, which is representing what we should do, ask Mary to tell Jesus to help us. That is why we have intersession. A mother’s love is one of the biggest ever, therefore Mary can get to Jesus fast, and she is our mother as well. I hope this helps too
