Concerning the original Sonic 4 and the remastered 2D version, there's things I like about both. Neither are perfect, but if I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the original. The remaster didn't need to make a remix of the Splash Hill theme (although I very much loved the victory theme after beating the level), and it would've been nice if Sonic had the Homing Attack. Same time, I loved the additions it had like with Eggman showing up (although that might not have been necessary either) and then things like the waterfall pushing Sonic forward, really making Splash Hill live up to the name. The 3D version could use some work but it was still super fun. Did I look too deep into this? Maybe, but gotta get my thoughts out, you know? :)

It exists for 3d games to make it easier to hit opponents but for 2d hitting enemies isn't a problem. Having a midair dash is alright but the homing attack has to go. Sonic 4 in general is probably worse than 06

Personally I kind of like the mania-styled interpretation more, simply because it’s really cool seeing a 2D version of the level that looks way better than sonic 4. I think both 2D and 3D have their merits, and I can enjoy both when done properly. I don’t see the point in arguing which is better, as that kind of stifles variety.
EDIT: though I do have to say that the 2D recreation is sometimes a little overboard in the colours department. Specifically I think the checkerboard pattern in the dirt has really excessive contracts to it.

Episode 2 was a massive step up compared to 1, fun levels, fun gameplay, cool bosses, memorable music, overall i enjoyed it a lot. I understand why people hate episode 1, but wouldn't agree, if episode 2 would be called garbage.

To be fair the level design in episode 1 is desent not the best but still fine imo and i think its better than episode 2 however i still think mania is the better game
