I know it’s a joke… but I need to see a full on grim dark imperial office. Complete with grim dark cubicals, grim dark copy machines, grim dark reception desk, grim dark break room, and a grim dark water cooler. And more. This would be so fun to sculpt and build. It’s sound fun to just make something a little silly every now and then. I need this.
I imagine the scriptorium from _The Name of the Rose_ with wood paneled computers on wooden workstations, with illumination provided by these faux flames electric torches.
There are hot knives where you can replace the blade with something like coat hanger wire which you could then shape the wire to cut a fairly square from the board. It'd probably still need a sanding job though
This is stunning! I am in awe. I was already sold on the terrain when you said starship bridge, being a big Star Trek fan as well, but seeing it painted and assembled like this makes me want it so badly! I NEED this!
Awesome, the board looks great! Just a quick note to say you might want to wear a mask when you're sanding foam. My design tutors told us the dust can hang around in your lungs for years. Great vid, love your stuff!
Great looking board! I am gonna have to print these off and have a go myself. Will be perfect for my Rogue Trader RPG games. Also in answer to your question at 2:04 - I think the best way to do it would be with a router attachment on a Dremel and a metal ruler to guide your routing. A normal router would probably mangle up foam as they are designed for wood, but a dremel with a router attachment might be the way to go. It would kick up a lot of dust though so would need to hold a vacum there while you rout. Your way worked great too though!
To carve out the foam in the middle I used a dremel/rotary tool with a bit setup that makes it a router. Really only needed if you want a flat bottom. You will need a vacuum nearby as well.
Those stained glass windows came out fantastic. When I saw them, I thought you were going to cut the glass part out from the rectangle and then you slid it into the frame. I made the same face you did, Jay. Amazing idea!
Another great terrain board video! Those windows were the best bit imo. However, I still *really* want to see that Craftworld Eldar themed terrain board.
Not only am I blown away by the terrain filled board, but the cinematography and the pacing of the video is phenomenal, not to mention the humour is delightfully cheeky throughout. 10/10 keep up the good work Jay, Kill(team)ing it!!
I absolutely love this board!!! The green marbling looks fantastic. When (if) we get any bat reps, I cant wait to see all of these different boards show back up :3
I've been following EoB from the basing tutorials era, and these board-building videos are some of the most entertaining content you've ever put out. Bravo! (Also, moar pls)
Jay i would have cut the board through on the lines you drew woth a hot wire cutter, than take the center piece, cut out the depth you need away, than glue all back together.
Why do all that cutting and gluing when you can cut once and never have to glue. Use a variable speed compact router, it is literally made for this job. You can get them as cheap as $20 from harbor freight
Excellent work! This is one of the best gaming boards I've seen recently, such wonderful gothic details really sets the mood and will make for a great gaming season! I'd really like to see Advanced Space Crusade revisited but done with 3D printed terrain, it's time to go beyond the cardboard!
The trick to doing large areas of marble like that, you need a brush called a ‘flogger’ usally badger bristle and you use it to pretty much whip your sponging and soften and blend it all to look more natural.
Please extend the range of this terrain! The slide in idea for the arches is superb! I would love to see other designs, like railways for balconies or wall designs to create close quarter environments. I can even see these files as a foundation to build a big 2000p tournament ready gaming board. Endless possibilities. Keep on exploring these possibilities for us please 🙏🏻
I would love to see how you’d interpret a ship’s bridge for each faction. It would be fantastic to fight out boarding actions on an appropriate bridge. Space Marines boarding a hive ship; here’s the hive ship’s cerebral node. Eldar boarding an ork kroozer; here’s da Kontrol Room.
what you needed to use was a Router with a cutting bit, kind of like what you would use on wood but use it on the foam, i have seen other model railroaders use them when carving out lakes, rivers or just places to put switches in the layouts.
*_This is a really cool start to a complete Space Hulk. Have you thought about how large a Space Hulk is, and do you have room to display it all once it's completed in 2026?_* *_The marble is good, next time use an airbrush on the thicker veins._* *_Will you be adding diodes here and there and light sources behind the stained glass?_*
Verdigris is definitely the new trendy thing in painting 😂 It’s the new NMM - there’s definitely going to be verdigris stuff hitting Golden Demon next. You heard it hear first, folks.
Loving this board so much! I do agree, a lot of the action in spaceships, even in 40K books, happens on the bridge. So happy with the final product! Gotta be one of the best ones yet :D
One option for having the floor tiles flush with the ground plain would be to have a layer of foam/cardstock that is the same depth as the tile themselves, trace out the tiles and cut the section out, that way you don't need to gouge out from the main foam platform!
I shall become a patreon finally lol. This terrain is way to damn good to pass up you guys really have out done yourselves! Good freaking job, bravo! Thanks for all the hard work you guys do!
Really cool, I love the marble technique. It does look like there is some of the Pink Panther image from the foam showing through from some angles (e.g. 4:30). I doubt it's going to be noticeable when the board is filled with terrain, but it may be something to look out for when using this type of foam again. For lowering the middle section of the foam, I would probably have cut out the whole area, used a hot wire cutter to remove the excess material and then glued it back in, though depending on how it's going to be used, this may have lead to insufficient stability, so the knife and sander method may be the better choice.
Using Hot wire cutter, cut the tile section clean off. Cut the tile section piece into two equal pieces, then run vertically through the wire cutter to plane off the 5mm of foam. Re-assemble using foam glue (used for foam rc plane kits). This glue is wire-cutter friendly and will not register when cut with tool.
This is an awesome board!!! For some extra realism you also can try to sponge some matte varnish on the floors. It will give the impression of some dirt and dust.
I really think GW will make a Space Hulk 2.0 once 10th comes and we getthe Nids refresh and Termie updates. Would be awesome for them to do and make them some good money no doubt. Also the start of your board would have been a 100 times easier if you had started with a cut out of the board and then layer it until it was flush with the rest of the board haha. Phenominal job on the marble effect though!
@Rutgaur XI or they could make it better?? The game is a bit outdated compared to modern games. Hell they don't even have to change up the game really. Just add new models and art an done
Lad just imagine how cool it must be to have a Hobby friend like this who just busts out these pro level Kill team boards every other week. And all you have to worry about is bringing your own KT Minis and that's it.
For marble try using dryer sheets and an airbrush for the start they go in and do the vains its really awesome or you could do this one trick and spray a pice of scrunched up saran wrap get it nice and covered and dab it Around useing the wrinkles in the wrap to mail vains
What you need for carving out the foam is a hot wire cutter with the shapeable wires.. have a goose at Tabletop Times' titan table videos and they use it to carve out stuff.
Woodworking tools do really good with foam, so like a router with a flat bottomed bit would've been fast, but then again, we could all use the forearm workout.
I don't know what particulate matter specifically is given off by pink insulation foamboard, but I would still recommend doing that sanding outside and wearing (at least) a dust mask when doing this in the future. You do not want to be inhaling fine particles of anything, but stuff like insulation foam, latex paint, and printed resin is definitely up there in terms of concern. It's also now in your workspace so I'd suggest sweeping up while dust-masked and running an air filter to try and collect some of the particles.
The absolute best board I've seen, I could see myself playing a night lord legionnary killteam and imagining them boarding a vessel and bringing havoc to the bridge
A few people have started decorating up cheap children's magnet tiles to form quickly-rearrangeable modular rooms, irregular non-square rooms, walls, corridors, stairs etc. Would be great setup for labyrinthine tunnels and rooms leading to this centerpiece here.
You could use a plunge router to cut out the depth you needed for the center. I know its more of a woodworking tool and not something a hobbyist would have around but it would make quick precise work of it.
I can respect the Apple Barrel love. My favorite paint is Apple Barrel Pavement. Highly recommended. Pavement plus black wash looks super nice for a black color.
Alright, when you started the marble effect with the green base and sponging I thought it would look terrible... nope, absolutely not. It looks incredible!! I really have to try that technique.
I know it’s a joke… but I need to see a full on grim dark imperial office. Complete with grim dark cubicals, grim dark copy machines, grim dark reception desk, grim dark break room, and a grim dark water cooler. And more. This would be so fun to sculpt and build. Back in the late 80's or early 90's Citadel made a "Chaos Lavatory" model. I think I've still got mine around somewhere.
@@brionl4741 WHAT?!
@@jackpaxton9391 Chaos lavatory. Toilet with tentacles and fangs and suchlike.
I do too I mean surrrly they exsit because the buacry exsits.
I imagine the scriptorium from _The Name of the Rose_ with wood paneled computers on wooden workstations, with illumination provided by these faux flames electric torches.
Props to whoever came up with that stained glass sliding into the walls system! Way nicer than trying to fit the window perfectly into the frame.
that turned out amazing!
THANKS DUDE!
This has to be my favorite EOB board yet! Amazing work as always, Jay!
That and the factory
This marble effect looks sick! I must try this technique :)
Dude you could make an entire "EPIC BOARD SERIES" with this level of dedication
I'm impressed
He pretty much is doing just that.
Love the board build videos! Still asking for a tour of your hobby space
Alternate title
“Man grafts spaceship with marble countertop onto pink panther”
There are hot knives where you can replace the blade with something like coat hanger wire which you could then shape the wire to cut a fairly square from the board. It'd probably still need a sanding job though
That marble effect was insane. Amazing work, dude.
This is stunning! I am in awe. I was already sold on the terrain when you said starship bridge, being a big Star Trek fan as well, but seeing it painted and assembled like this makes me want it so badly! I NEED this!
2:06 I would maybe cut out the centre of the board, slice off as much as is needed, and then glue the centre back in place?
Awesome, the board looks great! Just a quick note to say you might want to wear a mask when you're sanding foam. My design tutors told us the dust can hang around in your lungs for years. Great vid, love your stuff!
The glass windows are just such an amazing touch. Think I may be joining the patreon soon !
Thanks so much for not showing it at the beginning! What a project!!!!!!!! Amazing board!
I've seen marble done once before, but you've done it to another level. Add my praise to the pile. Tom knows his stuff.
Great looking board! I am gonna have to print these off and have a go myself. Will be perfect for my Rogue Trader RPG games. Great looking board. Well thought out, and assembled. Thanks for sharing this video with us, Jay.
That is my favorite board you have done yet and as an OG Space Hulk player I wish I would have had something like this back in the day.

What a way to start the morning!
One of the most gorgeous spaceship boards ever, the combination of that marble, cold metal and warm stained glass windows really work well together!
I've been loving the Gallowdark and I think I need to finally get on that Patreon for this terrain.
Your board builds are some of my favourite videos on this channel, really entertaining and inspiring.

Grim Dark normal places is a hilarious board idea. A grim dark office space. A grim dark dance club. A grim dark Wal-Mart.
Amazing board. The marble looks very nice and the stain glass windows looks awsome.
Absolutely stunning! I love immersive terrain, it is as much a character in narrative games as the miniatures
