Joe keeping a journal is a great idea. When I started going on my deer hunting adventures, at age 20, with my in laws, I had a surveyors log book and I kept a journal and did it for years, then sort of gotta away from it. Now I wish I had kept it up, but after watching your channel and how you keep that journal I am going to start it up again. I did the same as you, I would record the weather conditions that morning, what I or we did that day. When the actual hunting started then I recorded what was seen, who saw a deer and how many, I would draw maps of any new areas that I hunted showing the trails. My years of surveying pays off when it comes to reading maps and drawing them. Now some 35 years later I have pulled it off the shelf and read those passages in it and it brings back a lot of memories, some of which I had forgotten. Yes I video our hunts and that is sort of a journal in itself, but not in the detail that you do, but that is about to change!! LOL Again, I appreciate all you do in your videos and the channel you have here. This has sparked something in me that has been missing for a long time. Thank you.

My family is from Vermont and Germany all hunters and army. I think the life style of providing for ones self with what God has given us is the best life for me. Thanks for writing me with details of Sarah and that 308! kill.. wow.. just love it . We always for Christmas have Vinson shipped in from Germany, just wish we had a place to hunt in the north to get a good deer or two. the deer in the south are not so good. still better than none. last 2 years from Colorado was OK.
    friends hunt.:))

I have kept a journal here since day 1 back in 2007. I am on my second journal now (the first one is filled and in the fire safe at home) and in the beginning they were a bit short but now some days are pages long with weather details and everything that happened that day. I write notes down on sticky notes all day and fill it out in the evening or the following morning. I am at the tent now and have a pile of post its sitting here waiting to be entered. Thank You. Joe

That food is looking awesome like you say. I washed in a cattle trough on the cabin back porch when I was a kid, we heated the water on the stove. I have fond memories of that to this day. Thanks for sharing. Take Care :-))

Those journals are going to be priceless to your grandkids and beyond! I lost my uncle this year and I'm gonna miss the deer hunting stories of my dad, uncles, grandfather and great grandfather! Any information at this point in my life would be very satisfying!

Excellent idea with the journal. I'm happy to see the memories and events of the loved ones are recorded - and that you're on the 3rd journal! Congrats Joe... That type of work and dedication is really an accomplishment. Cheers from Ontario.

Thanks Michelle. If I could get enough work up there I would. I do get some work and when I do I will be there sometimes 3 weeks and its nice. Watch some of the winter videos from up there because it is only accessible by crossing the ice or snowshoeing in because all the "roads" you see that I drive in on are national forest cross country ski trails from the Sunday after Thanksgiving until around March or April when the snow is gone. I do hope to be there eventually. Great comment. Joe
