- As a teenager in Nazi-occupied Netherlands, Audrey Hepburn found herself deeply involved in the resistance movement, taking on a variety of dangerous and daring tasks. She delivered the underground newspaper Oranjekrant, cycling through the streets with illegal papers stuffed into her shoes. Hepburn also worked as a courier, carrying messages and food to downed Allied pilots hiding from the Nazis. Her ballet skills, honed since childhood, were put to use in "black evenings" - secret performances to raise money for the Dutch resistance. These shows were incredibly risky; if caught, the penalty was death.
