    It hurts sooooo much to see that production value for a 200€ game

    I'm excited to get my pledge, finally a 4x game that plays in a reasonable time!

    I think it got mentioned in your unboxing video, but worth mentioning here as well. In addition to the yellow/orange, red and green also share a ship mold correct? Which could potentially cause problems with color blindness. Although I am not color blind myself so I don't know if the particular hue of green matters or not.

    OMG are you trying to break Eminim's record in speed talking? :D For a non native english speaker its hard to follow. thanks for the review tho :)

    Alex great review! Excellent points on the technology cards. I have went full on tech in a few plays and it worked really well. You are correct in mentioning that it is not utilized enough, but that can be on who is teaching the game and on players as well. I feel it is a bit of a "hidden gem" strategy. In one play with Roy he mentioned playing with someone who did very well using the tech cards. It is there but is often overlooked as you pointed out. :-D

    This game looks just amazing. What an incredible feat to get a 4X scifi game to play in an hour with a full table of 6+ players! I'm in awe and kinda jealous :). Thanks for taking us back through the game again - I have a much better feel for how this game plays!

    At first I was surprised to see this video pop up today because just yesterday I happened to watch the previous Last Light review from last year. I thought maybe this video was a re-post or something, but then I saw the link to the previous review in the description.
    Anyway, I'm glad to hear that the setup has gotten faster with repetition. I might get the regular version, which seems to have tokens instead of plastic pieces, and hopefully those are easier to identify by color.

    The production value on the retail version is..... left wanting. A warning to buyers.

    Thanks for this great review! I do like the idea of a 4x that isn’t overly direct combat heavy. I have Warpgate and that fits that bill well. Is that the case here too? Ie how central is direct combat to the game?

    • @rodgermoore7960
      @rodgermoore7960 Год назад +2

      Having played this 26 times already, it is not totally essential but can vary depending on who you are playing with and the player count. You can potentially avoid it in odd number player counts and can be a viable strategy not to do any combat at all (One of my only wins in the game involved no combat at all with the other players.). It does become necessary at times, however to slow down players in the inner sections of the board. Keep in mind that each player is limited to the number of ships, so I feel it limits the amount of combat necessary during game play. There are other strategies not involving fighting with other players that can be just as enjoyable. I hope this helps answer your question.

    While I do appreciate very much what Roy has done with Last Light and do believe I’d enjoy it, for me and my group I can’t see us enjoying this more than the other short 4X that rarely gets mentioned, March of the Ants, which averages to an hour play for us as well, including when we add new players.

    @BoardGameCo Hi Alex, how does a seven player game of Last Light compare to other seven player games with a similar level of strategy/depth? What other games are you thinking of?

    I really wanted to love this game, but the last 2 times I’ve played, I was left out of the game because I didn’t happen to randomly draw any tech that increased my movement. The game was over before I could engage in any combat. I’ve since refused to play it again.

    Was quite interested in picking this one up in the campaign but unfortunately the grey fox production scared me off. Maybe look at picking this up in retail now that I know what I'm getting into rather than getting it and being disappointed lol

    Picked up a copy of this at Gencon, with the acrylic planets. Not worth it, at least the planets. In fact, it seems they manufacturer left the 'light' for the dwarf star on before shipping, so they're all dead in the box; either that or it didn't come with a battery. It also took us 3 hours to do an initial play.
    Don't believe the hype. This is not a 4x in 60 minute experience.

    Grey Fox should stop trying to "over produce" things with minis/plastic as they don't ever seem to get it right. Legibility always seems to be sacrificed. There is nothing wrong with punchboard tokens for resources etc
