- The EV SUV expo is an independent show featuring electric cars - including Xpeng and Zeekr who are going to be launching their vehicles in Australia over the next few months! This show is held over August 9, 10, 11 2024 in Melbourne Australia.
Held at Melbourne's convention centre, this is a quick walkaround video, so if you're interested in going you can see which cars will be available. I think this show will be of value if you are looking for an EV to purchase in the next 6-12 months, because this might be the only way you'll get to look at the Zeekr X and Xpeng models which aren't on public display (yet).
I was particularly impressed with the interior quality of the Zeekr -very premium finishes and a polished, fast user interface on the main screen. By comparison, the Xpengs models were clearly Chinese imports without the benefit of a local English language interface. Of course, these aren't final production examples for Australia. And Polestar was clearly the standard in terms of interior quality - everything felt super plush, very solid and expensive.
Other winners? If you have a chauffeur to drive you around, the Xpeng X9 has a mindblowing middle 2 captain seats - full recline, huge legroom, heated/cooled seats with great massaging function and a massive folddown screen. If you're wanting a hot hatch, the Ioniq 5N will suit - the best sport seats I've sat in for a long time, a racy steering wheel and aggressive looks.
And not winners? Toyota have grudgingly offered up the BZ4X with a cheap interior made of leftover Camry and Corolla parts for around $75,000. Probably a car only diehard Toyota zombies will embrace, but I could be wrong. Why buy an electric car from a company that hates electric cars?
Order your Tesla with my link ts.la/tim750065 to get $700 your new Model 3 or Model Y! Unfortunately being a noob my phone ran out of charge by the end of the show - missed recording the F150 Lightning! I'm hoping to get in touch with manufacturers and dealers of all the amazing EVs on display at the show for more in depth videos and reviews. Please contact me through this channel if you have access to cars for a video feature! #electricSUVexpo
I was there too. X-Peng cars are really good in terms of tech and design, their prices are competitive as well. I was informed that the X-Peng G6 (both variants) will be under 60K all inclusive.
I was a bit disappointed as there were limited brands.
Some of the cars are very expensive, not sure how they are going to survive in the industry especially with so many new Chinese hitech and affordable cars coming in the market in next 12 months.
Agreed - the Chinese manufacturers will be sharks in the market - abundant, fast moving and will eagerly kill any competition who show signs of weakness *cough TOYOTA*. Higher manufacturing capacity, mainland China battery production ability, rapid product development and improvements and lower costs.
My biggest take from this show is fast forward 10 yrs and there will be very few non- Chinese brands left in Australia- you have been warned! I wanted to see the Renault Scenic if it ever comes here!
I'm old enough to remember when hyundai launched the $13,000 excel and every journalist trashed the car and said hyundai will never make it in Australia. Now look where Hyundai/Kia are. The chinese manufacurers will evolve even quicker and dinosaur manufacturers like Toyota will be in trouble, and they know it!
Look like Zeekr X is ready.
Yes - just waiting on a price confirmation. I'd expect it to be priced above the MG4, Dolphin, Ora Cat as it has a much more premium interior, however too much higher and it'll be attacked by EVs in the next size category. It's a beautiful car, really hoping to review it in more depth
I spoke to someone who had signed up at the show for the Zeekr X his contract showed the total price at an eye watering $75,000. Yes I said $75,000!! Way over priced at that much. The finish wasn’t bad but the trim on the top of the door cards was really thin, I’d expect it to tear in days.
@@gillo3139 yeah I read the news it was above the 60k mark. Hard to justify when the model Y can be had for $55900 before ORC
Xpeng finally giving us a jetson car
yeah, but I still think a car needs to have 4 wheels, their "flying car" is more like a personal helicopter. Still, it's excellent to see how crazy and creative they can be
Well it’s still early days. Shows will get better.
Disappointed the sea lion 97 didn’t make a sneak preview . It’s already spotted in Queensland
I'm disappointed a lot of manufacturers didn't have any cars at all - where was VW, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche etc? I think it's a metaphor - if they're missing at a show like this, are they actually expecting to play a part in the EV market in future?
The Toyota on show …… hmmmm. Toyota needs to start taking this EV transition seriously.
Toyota are the biggest of the legacy ICE manufacturers - imagine the billions they've invested in manufacturing petrol engines and all the supporting old tech. They'd rather protect their old manufacturing tech than invest in EVs, which is why Toyota Australia have been the worst auto manufacturer in "supporting" the transition to clean energy. But at least they're grudgingly offering up a cobbled together EV, where the wheels might stay on if you're lucky, and use up some spare old interior parts from the 90s.
Polestar seats are made with spun fabric made from recycled PET bottles.
Didn't know that - felt pretty good to me! I think they feel more premium than the vinyl seats (sorry, ""vegan leather"") in my tesla.
Interesting that VW weren't there to show off their ID4 and ID5.
Yes, also Cupra not present. Let's see how strong their commitment is to launching EVs in Australia.
Shame Kia didn't have the EV 5 and 3 on show.
agreed, they had an EV5 at the Australian open (not available to touch and feel) this should've been an excellent opporunity to show one off. I feel Kia are underrated as an EV manufacturer, it'll be great to see them over the next 12-24 months
thank mate
You're welcome! I'm hoping to get some more in depth time with EVs for further reviews, plenty of cars about to be launched here which is an exciting time!
I was on the Canadian Hyundai website yesterday and the Kona is the same price in Canada. Way overpriced in my opinion.
With the increasing competition in the ev space, agreed - kona EV would be a great way for Hyundai owners to trade up within the brand, but it's a big step up from the non EV kona.
Oh dear! Zeeker belongs to Volvo😮......nope........Geely
ah well... zeekr is owned by geely, volvo is owned by geely, along with polestar and half a dozen other brands... everyone is owned by someone else eventually it seems!
How ridiculously priced are some of these EV's. Imagine the insurance costs for the no name brand vehicles. Named brand EV's insurance is getting expensive.
Insurance costs are through the roof. Allianz doubled my insurance renewal on my model 3, so naturally I'm no longer a customer of theirs. That said the insurances on all my cars have increased 20-100% over the last 12 months so it's not just limited to EVs. Need to be a lot smarter shopping around and leaving insurance companies who charge the lazy tax.
Expensive due to high taxes
All insurance is getting expensive. I switched away from ice to a named brand ev and no increase in insurance, so def shop around
Very boring show. Who ran it?
would've been nicer to see a wider range of brands - eg where was mercedes, bmw, vw, audi, mg, tesla? I have no doubt the organisers of the show reached out to those manufacturers, but for whatever reason they declined to participate. Their loss - I feel buyers who attended would be impressed by the xpengs and zeekr
@@bozugarage agreed, the new Chinese stuff is amazing
没有对比就没有伤害
Organisers reach out to all car manufacturers of EVs and invite them to participate. It's up to the brands as to whether they want to participate or not. There will be a huge display of EVs at the Sydney International EV Show in November with lots of brands on display! Next year the international EV show will be back in Melbourne and is bound to be even bigger and better :)
@@littletraincreative1962 my point exactly, the organisers didn’t do a good job of encouraging car companies. The fully electric show in Sydney earlier this year was WAYYYYYYY bigger with more brands and it’s just run by a you tuber.
