I would say they were a bit hard on the V-Strom1000 - it ISN'T OK on the road. It IS AMAZING! It is one of the most comfortable bikes around, it will keep big sports bikes in check on a windy road, under 180kph, and it will take you off-road, albeit, slowly. It is great on gravel, smooth hard-packed roads, and single track. It can even be ridden through the sand. I wouldn't take one somewhere super-technical, but otherwise, it is hugely capable. Also, the earlier models can be picked up with all the ADV bits (crash bars, skid plate, etc), with low kms for well under $10,000. So cheap.
absolutely agree! As advbenture rider myself i bought vstrom 1000 for purely on road traveling and i think its perfect or near perfect onroad bike. After first ride i could confirm - its purely onroad bike, no idea why people try to categorize it as adventure - its not, and its perfectly fine! Should you can ride it on gravel etc, but you can do that on any bike. It doesnt have even one offroad feature, so cant be treated as adventure bike! Otherwise its not fair. Treat it as purely on road touring bike (as it is one) and youll be delighted! Perfect engine having lots of useful torque in low and mid range, fantastic wind protection, easy to read pretty and oldschool clocks, fuel counter and fuel injection! WWhat one could want more? I would want abs and slighly softer suspension. But other than that its pretty much perfect touring bike, old school - yes of course, but still.
Owning one like this you can say you get sleepy on highways under 160, 170.plus I have past an of road about 10 klm with second passenger while snowing. So yes its a good bike.
@@Angry-Lynx look I'm 198,5 cm long and I passed through forest (gravel and mad) while it was snowing on a mountain in Greece were I live with my wife 1.78 cm and it was OK. Of course I consider it as a road bike but Iwas really surprised that it can do things that is forbidden to street bikes. Safe riding.
Bike looks like a first gen, same as mine. After years of riding dirtbikes, there’s simply no way I could recommend this heavy bike to anyone traveling off road, ESPECIALLY with its top heaviness. It’s the weight distribution and geometry that’s all wrong for me, I love it for the roads though!
The V-strom should ride perfectly fine at 2500-3500 rpm. If you have to keep yours over 4000 rpm, its because the map of the engine is too anemic at low rpm's.
