Can't thank you enough Jasper for making this video! I just got an OMTech Polar a few days ago and appear to have the exact same problem which I was able to solve (for now) thanks to your video and you sharing how you adjusted the formula so that the focal distance would be between 5 and 6 mm. I'm going to follow up with OMTech to let them know I too had the problem so that they can hopefully resolve it soon. Gratefully, Tim
Great video, Jasper! I appreciate seeing the struggles with new tools since so many video just show things working perfectly all the time and that's not always true.
Jasper, in case you haven't discovered yet, in the "Move" panel in Lightburn, you need to turn on "Move from Machine Zero". That is likely the cause of your focus problem. Hope that helps!
To put it another way, the machine's zero seems to be the thing that's off. Someone on the Facebook group pointed out to me yesterday that there is an adjustable end stop for the Z motor, so another possibility is that it could be that that was installed 5mm lower than most.
Thanks for sharing the good and challenges, so to speak. An important question - now after several months of use, are you finding the smoke created inside the unit is fully venting out of the fan and ducting or are you finding some smoke is exiting the machine and into the room? Thanks so much!
I had high hopes for the Omtech Polar laser, but it fell short in terms of reliability and consistency. Disappointingly, it struggled with frequent breakdowns and inconsistent performance, failing to meet expectations.
yep... ironically just went through these exact issues.... wish i saw this vid first. :) 1. z-axis does not calibrate when its turned on; basically last place it was becomes the new zero. 2. limits on x-axis is 200m/s; don't try to go above. Controller acts funny and will not compensate power levels. Far cry from the 500mm/s they claim. 3. Mine is physically mounted wrong; the claimed fittment on z-axis is not correct. Shrug... no idea why. 4. Lack of console is killing me; makes troubleshooting hard. Overall its not as refined as a xtool or ortur in some of these small issues; but much better hardware underneath. Very odd... Would only suggest for people who like to tinker personally. Reaching out to omtech to work through above; shrug...
Any update on the issues you encountered? I totally agree the Z-axis not zeroing out on its own is really confusing, especially since you can't see the lens position under the cover.
I haven’t used the machine in months, so I don’t really remember. I recommend joining the Facebook group. It will be much easier to get troubleshooting help there.
Cool.. so those of us still awaiting a raven, will now have a harder time getting one seeing as how you're introducing another kit that will likely be consistently unavailable as well. I wish I understood...
No, I haven't thought about it. I'm not really in a position to keep to a particular schedule with videos and projects, so I'm not sure how well that would work.

Thanks Tim! I’m glad to hear this helped, and I’m sure OMTech will be, too!

Thanks, I know you know that first hand!
I don’t comment often. I appreciate the issues you ran into even though it was provided. But I am really considering getting one.
I had the exact same problem!!! I wish I found this video a few days ago but it’s nice to know I’m not the only one.
Did you get it to work?

Thanks Dawn. If I zero it first, shouldn’t that not be a factor?

Nice for the info man😊
Under Dunn (Aging Wheels) did a good review thing on this cutter, I think he had issues too.

I only use it venting directly out the open garage door, so I’m not really sure

I've had my struggles with it, but it sounds like we had different problems. What kind of inconsistency did you encounter?
Great, This is the one I want to get lol. I am getting a headache just looking at all of them
Can you please do a demonstration on a 40oz full wrap tumbler
No, I don’t have a need for that kind of thing myself, but there’s a Facebook group for this machine and I’m sure someone has done that.
thank goodness for your video!
I hope you found it helpful!

What were your initial settings for the test card? I can’t get mine to complete at all

So jealous!! CO2 laser is on my want list.
Jasper any chance you can link the test card for the polar here?
I don’t know how to do that since it came from the Facebook group, sorry. But it’s a very helpful group and worth joining.
Long time man!
I am looking for one right now. Trying to beat Diane 😂😂😂
I don't know if anyone can win against Diane!
@@jasperjanderson 😂I just keep looking

Have you considered starting a Patreon?
