Thank you for this, back in 1990 I took my dad up to Plymouth Hoe to watch the band perform the sunset ceremony, 2 days later he died in hospital but the love he instilled in me for the RM Band lives on. I still always stand when I hear Sunset and think of Dad and times in Drake watching field gun run practice. Again Thank you
I was never in the Navy, much less the Royal Marines, indeed I was never in any service so why, whenever I hear an HM RM Band play 'Sunset', I can't help tearing up? There are times when I know they are going to do it, so it isn't going to take me by surprise, yet at the first half a dozen notes the tears well up. I feel such a pratt, but I bet there are many others for whom 'Sunset' has the same effect? Britannia may no longer rule the waves, but she could, if she had to.
Hi Roger, pleased that you liked the video! I have the same feelings about ‘Sunset’, I think it is just a respectful and British thing, regardless of whether you served or not 👍

Sorry but I must disagree. You have not seen and heard magic until you watch the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Band at Vernon Training Center at the end of summer training.
You always know when they are going to play World in Union because they ALWAYS break into slow time first. No one does Sunset Ceremonies as good as the RM Band can, not even the Guards Division bands. RM Band: The Best of The Best
Yep, the (newish) Corps Drum Major is now D/M Chris Mace. He took over a few months ago ..... his bearing, personal drill and discipline is outstanding ..... One exceptional character indeed. He also makes a point of swinging his mace (actually called a "staff") at every opportunity to enhance the performance of this incredible band of musicians.

Roger, you are not alone. My father was 14 years RN including 6 years WW2, his brothers all RN. I was MN.

@@woodrat2296 I've never seen, nor heard of them. If, at such time as I do, I'll give them a fair listen.

Awesome! My dad would be proud, Antrim!
Portsmouth band led by the Corps Drum Major and the Corps Bandmaster - rare sight!
Wow, thank you for your comment 👍
I have been a lifelong fan and was lucky to attend a two week drum and bugle training course as a Sea Cadet at the RM School of Music at Deal in Kent.

@@supernutkin5122 Thank you for watching and your comments. Looking forward to his contribution over the coming years 👍
Another Brilliant piece of video, by a brilliant band. But they are the Best, and they know it. The Guards could learn from them.
Cheers Colin and I agree just cannot get any better. The Bands of HM Royal Marines are the best!
Wow! Thanks for posting! Love the RM band and going to see them in Truro, Cornwall at the end of January ! Really looking forward to that evening👍👍👍👍
Thank you for your comments, much appreciated 👍

Does anyone know the marches played? I know the national emblem is one of them
Soldiers of the Sea (first quick march), World in union (slow) and Lovat Scout (drum static) at the end

How many hundreds of hours must they practise to become so accomplished?
I think they do a three year apprenticeship then it’s every day. That’s why they are so polished and professional 👍
