Cool video but what is the tool you use for querying the db?
I made a video about it! You might enjoy it: ruclips.net/video/7V_CJBPZPes/видео.html.
(honestly lol'ed)
200 IQ 😎
@@PlanetScaleStackOverflowException 😅
@@PlanetScale Cool video but what is the tool you use for querying the db?
"I just don't want to-" Mic drop!
Thank you for normalizing the fact that each of us and can choose our own workflow and tools (as long as we can support it).
Haha thank you. Docker is a useful tool in many scenarios. I just don't need it for my use cases and that's ok!
I wish he doesn't get canceled for this 😂
I fucking love that intro.
I’ve got such a new appreciation for just saying the facts follows by “there is more but the basic gist is X”
Stayed for the whole video
🫡 be the change you want to see on RUclips, or something.
Thank you for rewarding good behavior by watching until the end! Truly appreciative 🫶
Dropped an immediate 'like' because you told us the app name within the first 10 seconds! :D I am a happy long time TablePlus user here too!
🫶
I respect you for saying the app name at first, I watched the full video for that 👍
🫡 respect
I like TablePlus however I love DBeaver! Both tools are awesome.
I've heard a lot of good things today about DBeaver! Nice that we have so many good tools
HeidiSQL is good to as it shows generated SQL underneath and helps me improve in SQL..
Yeah DBeaver is an awesome DB to in Linux. I believe it's an Eclipse RCP extension which can also be installed without all the eclipse base.
I like the ERD feature in DBeaver.
The JetBrains products have a very good DB integration as well.
@@adampatterson It is a very nice integration indeed. I keep DBeaver mainly for ALT+TAB view.
Great tool and thanks for showing. My favorite is a VS Code Exensions called Database Client by Weijan Chen, you can run queries, but you can also have them in your repo and version control them, which is great and works with ALL the database and really easy to set it up. DBEngn sounds cool, but does not seem to possible to run multiple instances of Postgres or MySQL unless you are use different minor versions. I am not a huge Docker user, but I put a simple docker-compose inside my project and I have my alias set up with "dcu" and "dcd" and it's really easy to spin up as many instances of DB as you need. Thanks for the video!
When you briefly switched to light mode, my reaction was like that of a vampire sprayed with holy water in the movies😂
you're so good in making these video's. i'm not even that into db stuff, but I love your presentation. this is clearly a level up to all tutorial type videos
keep up the good work!
You're awfully kind to say so. Thank you!
You're leagues ahead of my professors. In my 3rd year db course the professor didnt even mention what a SQL GUI is for. We painfully used psql. He also didn't mention page offset vs. cursors. Time and time again free videos on youtube embarrass professors I pay $1200 usd per course for, at a "top" Canadian uni (u of Toronto).
Great one! Very usable on my new project where I kept strugling with phpmyadmin. Thanks!
Dataflare is what I use, and I love it. Cross-platform, beautiful, snappy, free and only 15MB
Thanks for the honesty in the beginning! And thanks for showing DBngn!
Navicat is a pretty cool alternative, has some advanced features others might not have.
Also I love how people keep asking the same question rather than a quick search in the comments.
Well now I'm prepared with a link! Gonna get em
To be fair RUclips comments don't have a search feature
Cool app, I've been wondering what you are using.
I prefer HeidiSQL as the GUI and Docker to run the DB.
Oh nice, I've not heard of HeidiSQL
@@PlanetScale Yeah I think it's for Windows only
Heidi is good but crashes a lot.
Yeah, HeidiSQL is very nice for Windows. Much lighter to deal with than the horrible SQL Management Studio. I also prefer HeidiSQL over the new Azure Data Studio, which seems like a weird amalgamation of SQL Management Studio and VS Code.
Only issue I've had so far really, is that I've not figured out how to connect to databases in Azure using Azure Active Directory authentication. So after we moved all our databases to Azure, I'm forced to use the Azure Data Studio instead... *sigh*
Its a nice tool on mac, but coming from HeidiSQL on windows its lacking lots
- its got terrible memory leaks and gets very very slow after running for a while
- also does not do column truncation when viewing loading large fields in data viewer, so it can get very slow loading
- hiding columns does not prevent them from being pulled in data viewer
- on reconnection after a connection failure it sometimes executes the same query again
- i think there were some issues in the table structure editor
Various other things that i just miss with HeidiSQL.
Good thing though is the added protection running destructive queries, ive got it to require my fingerprint just as a safety measure.
I'm a HeidiSQL user as well, but I'll give TablePlus tomorrow at work and I'll compare my experience with your points. Thanks for this great comment! 🙂
love the straight out answer, now i can watch the video and be engaged, not just waiting for the end, thank you so much
I’ll use docker to build up a quick Apache, PHP, MYSQL.. setup on Linux, or on MAC I might use something like IndigoStack. I’ve been loving TablePlus, got it even connecting to my Planetscale DB through iPad Pro. Love the videos!
You're the best. I finally subbed after watching so many of your guyss videos and you really make me love planetscale as a whole even more!
"Instead of writing it over and over, I thought why not create a video?" It was at this point I thought, oh man, you're gonna be disappointed...
"and link the video over and over and get more views!" Nevermind. you get it.
Oh man I wish. But at least now I have a link!
Great into! At 5:09 you say that you close down the left pane, however your self video is covering up the top right so we don't see what you're clicking. Figured it out. Thanks!
Table Plus is a Canadian company out east in Halifax!
Take them a cake and tell the "Aaron says hi" but in like, a friendly way!
"...10 mins in, they still haven't told you the 1 thing" - Thank you for this. very much appreciated
Nice video, btw what tool do you use to run sql??
I made a video about it! You might enjoy it: ruclips.net/video/7V_CJBPZPes/видео.html.
Wow, This TablePlus looks really nice and well thought out. I really love that "Favorite Query" stuff and how it's implemented. Very useful.
I'm also using tableplus and has been loving it since then.
for the windows people the dbngine alternative would be stackbricks and atleast i use dbgate instead of tableplus
The creator of stack bricks is a dear friend of mine! ❤️
For Mac, I'm a fan of sequel ace
Your delivery is top notch.
This license is the same as in IntelliJ IDEA actually. Buy one time, use forever, but without new versions.
That's my favorite model. I feel like it's fair to both parties involved.
i'm currently using datagrip but if TablePlus had some kind of database sync/schema compare feature, i'd make the switch
Fellow datagrip enjoyer. The diagram viewer is beautiful for understanding schemas
They might tout the whole native thing, but it definitely installs an entire chrome embedded. So it's either using it for some browser display, or it's an electron app.
How would you compare it to jetbrains datagrip?
I love JetBrains tools generally, I'm a big fan of PhpStorm for example. I find TablePlus to be more aesthetically pleasing that Datagrip, but that's a very subjective matter.
@@PlanetScaleI also like PHPStorm.
Followup question, how does this compare to PHPMyAdmin or Adminer, in your experience?
since I read the comment section people asking what database client tool you are using, I am starting to use it too, very nice, really fast native app
What was the name of the database GUI application again?
I love datagrip ❤
DataGrip is also great!
Bought it, it's fast as crazy, and I love it. Thanks!
Lol i just asked like the other day, I am new to this channel and I haven't had time to browse through videos, it would be nice to always attach that information on the description for new viewers? I saw its a paid product so I don't know if there's gonna be implications of doing that. its just you would usually see the app's name on the window but not on this case. But thanks! I would give this a try!
You won me going straight forward, thanks!
Thank you for not insulting me by burying the lead. Subscribing based on this alone.
I was just looking for a new sql client for mac, thanks.
Such a good video. Such a good offer 🙂😁
I found this months ago and I love it.
Thank you so muchhhhh
Thanks! And one more question. What is this tool you use for querying the db? ;))
I made a video about it! You might enjoy it: ruclips.net/video/7V_CJBPZPes/видео.html.
Can you help me make a trigger in table plus, please?
"I don't use docker - or homebrew" >> insert awkward meme here
But for real, what GUI do you use?
Hahaha you freakin guys
Didn’t know about Dbengjne thanks !
The editing is so good.
The guy in the video is OK too
What kind of data you are sorting in those "secret db" , huh?
Make a video about that as well.😂😂
Anyways, i appreciate that you right away told the tool name & respected the time of the viewer, because of this will complete the video, thanks ❤
Haha the secret ones were just work things that I didn't want to show everyone. Nothing really interesting, I'm afraid.
And I appreciate your sweet, sweet watch time. Thank you!
Giving it a try!
how about surrealdb?
Have my sub and like you mad man! Love that intro!
😎 got em!
Thank you
What IDe you using for SQL ?
bruh
your videos are awesome!
nice video and straight to the point but unfortunate that it isn't an open source tool
I agree with you, show the thingy at the start.
I hope you watched until the end though, so we get that sweet sweet watch time
@@PlanetScale And also that sweet sweet engagement in the comments.
Your are going to defeat the algorithm!.
i believe there's an official vscode extension for rdbms.
I was looking for it
What camera do you use and what video recording software do you use as well?
oh no.... Canon M50 and Screenflow 🫠
Sorry which lens 😬
Haha dangit. Sigma 16mm!
Cool, but can you tell is what surge protector you use?
oh no. the questions, they're evolving
Manage stored procedures?
We're on the same page about Docker 😂
I was about to ask you the exact same question in your last video. haha
Whew, just in time 😮💨
Ya I bought tableplus a number of years ago. Super awesome!!!
Any suggestions on MySQL graph to get the current qps?
On our platform we have a tool called Insights (planetscale.com/docs/concepts/query-insights) that can monitor that for you. For vanilla MySQL I can't think of anything off of the top of my head unfortunately
I am 5 seconds in and I gave you a Like because holy cow thank you for not wasting our time dragging out the answer.
🤝🤝 I gotchu
for a simple app, adding more seats is expensive. And you can't use it on multiple devices of your own. ie using on my personal mac mini and work macbook
Ah looks like for 2 devices you'd need the middle tier plan. I just have one machine so I haven't run into that!
Which ide do you use?
Haha, I use PHPStorm most of the time
Quick answer = quick sub . Thanks 👍
🫡 here to serve. Thanks for your sub!
i hate databases but i love your videos 😁
Better than loving databases and hating my videos! I count that as a win!
I'm so happy you told me in the first ten seconds. Watched the rest of the video out of respect.
There is honor amongst RUclipsrs 🤝
Adminer power supreme
This sounds like an incantation. Adminer power supreme! I looked it up and apparently it's "Database management in a single PHP file" which certainly piques my interest.
TablePlus vs DataGrip, i think DataGrip has more features???
He got a big exposure because of laravel, it is recommended and integrated in dbingin
dbngin and tableplus come from same devs
@@k___ien its because of laravel
We all use table plus, the question is why would you use it on a Mac when you have sequel ace
For the reasons mentioned in the video, I love it!
What are your reviews on Beekeeper?
It looks very good, but I haven't personally used it! After Sequel Pro stopped being actively developed I switched to TablePlus and haven't ever looked back
I've tried it. It has very few features and doesn't even have an ER diagram (so it is not a replacement for dbeaver or datagrip), but it is good as a basic table browser that comes as a self-contained appimage.
But what's your sql client?
I made a video about it! You might enjoy it: ruclips.net/video/7V_CJBPZPes/видео.html.
Cool 😎
Mine is Beekeeper Studio
Accidentally featured in a video at time 00:50😅😅
It's just like I won but at what cost
Hey congrats! You made it! 🥇
I also do not want to use docker. Let's go, Team I Don't Want To Use Docker!
Edit: I also subscribed. Why? Because I wanted to. :p
You and I, we do what we want 😎😎😎
"I don't use Docker" what a rebel 😂
I'm much like James Dean in that way
Yep OrbStacks is so much better then Docker Desktop
OrbStack is the way to go.
@@AstroStrongBoxwhy
why i still love navicat
why?
How to come no one mentions HeidiSQL?
I'd never heard of it, but several commenters mentioned it!
Its for windows only
Yeah, we love TablePlus! ❤
Shout out to SequelAce too (a fork of Sequel Pro)
RIP Sequel Pro. A real one
Hahah all along I’ve been pronouncing it like d-bangin 😅
honestly that's cooler. much to consider
But does it make me a bad person if I'm still using the free version... for many years?
Haha I don't think so! They provide a free tier and you use it. Sounds reasonable to me!
Why does he give me `Phil Dunphy` vibes ?
Phil Dunphy is loveable and a little bit goofy, which I'll take all day
I prefer Datagrip
That's great!
Dock 'er? I hardly know 'er
I am on TV 😂
Congrats!! You made it!!
Sadly table plus linux support is not that good
if you put name of the software (TablePlus and DBngin) in the title of the video - people who look for information on those specific apps will be able to stumble across your channel.
Good tip!
☺
Too bad it doesn't support Oracle :/
ah pity, there's always something!
tableplus is more restricted in windows than mac. I like it very much but its paid. Can you share your license hahahahaha
UhmmmMMMmmm probably not, but it was worth a shot! 😂
HeidiSQL is much better i use in windows and linux
pacing is too slow. keep it moving. constructively
Noted! Check out some of the others and lemme know what you think
Friend, I certainly understand everything. But your camera doesn't focus on your face. This is a little upsetting.
Oh no! I'll keep working on it
