Lake El Salto trip December 7 - 15, 2022

Super fun trip to Lake El Salto in Mexico. One of those bucket list trips for me, I always wanted to go but never made it a priority. So when I got the invite from Mike Czaplinski, owner of Keitech USA I had to say yes.
Six of us went down and we had a blast. Our four best presentations were, chatterbait (Chart/White), Carolina Rig (1/2 or 3/4 oz weight) with a Keitech Fat Swing Impact 4.8 on a 5/0 EWG hook, Free Drop using a 3/8 oz weight and a 5/0 EWG hook with the 4.8 or a 2.5 Squarebill (Chart/White)
The lake was 85 foot above normal summer pool (June depth) so the fish were pretty scattered, but our guides did a great job of finding the fish and keeping us on the fish daily. We fished for seven straight days with several fish in the 4 - 6 lb. class and we had five 7 lb. fish and two over 8 lbs. and I was lucky enough to catch one of those. I wanted to get a 10 lb. fish, but the 8 lb. fish I did catch was pretty special, so I'm happy I made the trip.
I used Cortland 20 lb. masterbraid and it did a great job in and around the standing timber and snaggy rock bottom. For rods I used TFO's Tacictal Elite 7'4" H power fast action rod and I also used a prototype rod by Keitech 7'6" H power fast action.
Our Guides said the best months are February or May thru June, but between our six anglers we estimate we landed 500 fish a day so there was plenty of rod action to go around
