    I discovered my plants were dying cause the roots never left the peat compost, now I know I should have teased the rootball and pull some roots out.

    I have never seen anyone plant leaving a depression around the plant like that, it makes perfect sense to capture the water without run off. Lots of other good info also, thank you

    Reality of planting a bed will only allow someone with OCD to dig a hole that big for a plant that small. (Notice that the soil is completely friable. He’s never gardened in a suburban subdivision. Also, in my climate that well would ensure root rot.)
