Good going! Feral cats are responsible for a large number of endangered animals in Australia. My guess is you just saved the lives of hundreds of birds, reptiles and small mammals. Well done.
As an Indigenous Australian, my thumbs up is on behalf of the Marntiyupwi clan and all the tribes that stand with me. As an ecologist/evolutionary biologist, you get a thumbs up from me and every single one of my peers!
I'm an Aussie too, anyone who wants to criticise this guy is nuts, he is a saint. When you introduce an animal into a foreign ecosystem and that animal immediately becomes an alpha-predator, and then goes feral, birthing in the millions, not thousands, not hundreds of thousands, millions, and starts decimating wildlife and farmed animals you start culling any way you can, and his method is very humane and limited, only going after the ones he knows are harming his livestock, most, would get the boys and the guns together and go out on a hunting trip.
Have come a long way from Crocodile Dundee wrestling crocs to trapping little house cats..... I can just picture you with your hat full of cat teeth, with your cat fur through, with cat heads hanging off your truck..... Look out for this guy everybody we got a badass over here.
Good work mate. Thanks for sharing. Ive trapped hundreds of animals using simple DIY snares and traps, and I think the leg spring snare is a trap you could classify as the one that "fits all". Last year I caught wild pigs, possums, a feral cat and some large birds in similar traps. Best wishes from New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing your video. I really like your underground cardboard trigger technique. I have tried to trap 2 feral cats for weeks using a cage trap but they are too clever to get in. They'd take the bait outside the trap but would not go inside. I have given up trapping them. But when I found a tail of a ringtail possum under a tree in the garden 3 days ago and today I've discovered a pile of bird feather in the back yard, I really want to try another method to get them. Great video. I'll try your trick tomorrow.
They're all feral once they step off the owners premises. Chickens, natives or vege gardens. The cat is fair game if it bothers you in any way. Great video, love the way that you dumbed it down, so that "No cats were harmed in the making of this video." LLLOL
I use a spring snare set up, but use two split key rings tied to paracord. The smaller goes through the bigger one then you twist it up to have tension. A trigger stick with bait on the end holds the rings in place, and a professional wire snare is attached to the line. The animal nibbles on the bait, releasing the stick, the smaller ring snaps loose from the tension, the spring lifts (usually a small tree), and the animal which has crawled through the snare lifts up. The snares have a cam device which choke the animal. I've even caught 15 pound raccoons under their armpits and the snare suffocates them. It is insanely effective, and in my mind, more humane than many conibears where the animal may not die right away after suffering a neck or back injury.
Bugger the international audience. I think that you have one of the best channel on RUclips. Big thumbs up. Do you have a video on how to trap Indian Minors??
+S0LIXUS We have ethics and laws against harming animals and people that violate those principles should be punished accordingly. Cats don't have ethics, they have instincts. He still didn't need to kill them, he could have trapped them and taken them somewhere else. He's obviously a blood thirsty man, who's obviously not a cat person for whatever reason, and he just wanted to see them die. Theses were 2 beautiful animals who did not deserve to die!
i dont mind domestic cats but the ferrals do cause havok amoungst our native life and so the traping and kulling of them seems fair to me so congrats on the catch mate and keep it up. GOOD HUNTING MY FRIEND
I am an American, And I am OUTRAGED!!!!! That people actually get ANGRY about stopping FERAL species from destroying an indigenous species. Good on ya mate for doing what you need to do to protect your native wildlife.
Love it going to give this a go next time I head out bush but I will try it with a beach rod I normally go for the rubber jaw traps but hey if it work it works
Australia has a handful of native mice species, but only about half as many as when European settlement began. The other half have been driven to extinction, probably by feral cats and foxes (both introduced, invasive species). If I were an Australian, I'd rather have thriving native species than a few stray cats - which is exactly why feral cats are trapped, shot, etc. As long as trapped cats are killed quickly and with a minimum of fuss, I really see no problem with it. And I really like cats.
We have a feral cat problem here in the US as well that even California Fish and Wildlife has admitted to. I doubt even this leg snare would be accepted here though due to the cult following cats have. Great video!
Saphire Blue you are not going to convert anyone here and you have no solid argument or answers for the problem of feral cats. your judgement of fishermen and hunters is way of. its not easy killing an animal for most people so your comment is quite heartless someone has to kill animals tho, who do you think provides the fish and meat that a majority of people eat? do you eat meat.
Saphire Blue you are talking about some hunters. my friends who hunt eat the meat of dear goat pig and rabbit they shoot and feed there neighbors and family. at the very least these animals have had something farm raised ones have not, freedom. i would far rather know my meat has had a life and not been reduced to the conditions of so much of the meat we eat. the standards of housing animals in nz is far ahead of america but it still bothers me, the things that happen in your country make me sick. %80 of the meat i eat is sourced / grown by myself or those in my community because i like eating humane meat and dont wish to fund animal torture (it is a personal choice and not one i judge others on). saying that have you thought about the conditions of the animals that become cat food?
I'm in Key Largo and there must be a strain of toxoplasmosis on the loose here that really jacks the cat farmers in the head. A lot of people have been turned off to them and there is more trapping by citizens than ever before. But a few toxoplasmosis zombies are breeding them in their houses and animal control won't raid them.

I'm for trapping, but not for causing the animal to suffer or killing all ferals indiscriminately since kittens can be domesticated for example, and since ferals can be useful in cities and on farms. I know they aren't always the nicest creatures, but having raised barn fowl, I am used to non-lethal methods of protecting the fowl from foxes, feral cats, racoons, and such.
