My unit comes in tomorrow and I’m pretty stoked! Should be great for plane flights! Great video! EDIT: I SOLD IT and got the Circuit Tracks. Much better proposition. Much better SOUND. This should be $199 MAX
They way you laid down the bass and snare in just seconds at the start of the video is a big deal for me. When I play with digitone or model samples it feels way more clinical to get the beat started I ordered mine direct from TE a few hours after announce and it still hasn’t shipped yet. Oh the first world agony!
Great honest review! I agree, that reverse and resampling are a must in. sampler. I really hope it will be implemented in future. The thing that makes this thing work for me is the sound. I might be tricked, but the master compressor gels everything really well and can also go quite extreme, all while still sounding pleasant in some way. The FX are also quite nice. I hope its not recency bias :) Anyway, thanks for the video, and for showing up and helping in my livestream!
One tip is to replace the rotary knobs with round lego pieces (those with 4 connecting knobs on top) - they're way bigger in diameter and give you much better control when tuning the parameters. Another tip is using SHIFT while turning the knobs makes them go slower.
Love your content, man. So glad you did a review. Ordered two - one from guitar center and one direct. GC unit arrived with a fader that didn’t work and a knob that wouldn’t fit. Sending it back cancelled my direct order and will spend 300 towards a used Samples or bite the bullet on a Digitakt. Super cool device, incredible aesthetic, fun workflow, but the poor packaging and QC really makes me doubt the value of this system.
I will never sell my Digitakt. I don't use it every day, but with the depth and versatility there's enough there to play with that I can enjoy it for years as a drum machine and sampler plus some synthesis. If I got an EP-133 I think I'd want to sell it quite quickly. To me it's like an inferior attempt at an SP-404, with too many missing and ill-conceived parts to it.
Got mine today and everything is working fine. This tutorial is exactly what I need. Thanks! (I am a total newbie so I would love a video for dummies. Your points about fader modes and filters were to quick for me…. Yes I am very new to this 😊
Yeah it’s a love hate relationship with this thing for me. It’s got the looks and cool factor but it’s finicky when trimming. The whole erase thing is inconsistent. Drives me nuts.
Attaching the fader can be solved if you use a hair-dryer on the knob for a minute or two and then install it on the fader, it'll be soft for a snug fit.
I'm guessing the Lego attachment points and keyboard style switches are there to let people personalize their KO2. Look at how many people personalize SP404's with knobs and faceplates. Now you can buy Lego plates to build onto or Technics pieces for unique fader/dials or attachment points on the sides, and custom keycaps for all the main buttons. There will be an entire culture around customization of these things.
I don't think the keycaps are a standard dimension, but could be wrong. And making the potentiometer have standard shafts instead of technics rods would've made them more customizable.
Tbh I just see this destroying the availability of old Technics knobs/sliders for turntables, which is unfortunate. TE went out of their way to NOT use the standard knob/fader sizes we mass produce replacements for. I guarantee it cost more to use the dead Technics format.
@@Leo9ineLego Technics aren't connected to Technics turntables. And Technics tables don't have a fader aside from the pitch control, which is a totally different piece, in no way compatible with Lego Technics. This assumption is adorable though.

Thanks for this. This probably isn't for me unless and until they add resampling. But it's very cool. And I'm happy that there's a sampler on the market for 300 that's this powerful
I don’t get what the big deal is with resampling. I looked it up online to see what people are referring to but everybody has a different definition for what it is. What is it?
@@Mar.Escobar24resampling for samplers is the ability to resample from the device itself. You can do this on most samplers and it opens up a lot of doors creatively. Some examples of this are being able to resample to an empty pad and you can then play a bunch of sounds on the device like a drum loop or similar and then you have that loop on one pad and you can trim it etc from there. It lets you build complex layers or bake in multiple effects to one pad as you can resample over and over. On this particular device it would allow adding effects to a single sample which currently it doesn’t support. You can add effect to a group but not one specific pad/sample. I’m pretty confident that we will see this function added as a firmware update as I’m guessing it’s the most requested feature for this device. I can’t guarantee it though.
@@Mar.Escobar24 yes exactly, it’s easily done on the MPC. You can also do it by using the sampler on the MPC and setting the inputs to resample. I do it all the time on my MPC One. It’s a fun way to work! It should definitely be a feature on anything calling itself a sampler!
@@nervouscooks yeah I get that. I love my MPC One because it does a lot of what I need it to do at home, but these retro type portable samplers are dope to take anywhere just to be creative when I go on family trips and stuff. I like using my PO-33’s a lot and the Koala app but paired with the Beatbox for that hands-on feel. I ordered one of these just to add another to the collection and because of the PO-33 continuation. They’re limited, but it also pushes me to be more creative. One day I hope to get the SP-1200 cuz that thing is crazy expensive 😂 but thanks for that info!
the SP looks like a Brick of Garbage man - absolutly uninspiring for me personally. this thing sucks in other corners, but when you look at it, it has this "thang" 😏 the same with women. there are the ones who can do so much things and so much better, but then there is this one woman, she can't even cook or is stupid as hell, but you heart is telling you that your dick don't need no 5 star Meal 😂
This would be a game changer for me if you could use fx on a per pad basis as it stands its on a per scene so whichever fx you want say reverb all groups have to be that throughout the scenes. Why 99 scenes if you can't have separate songs per project 99 is overkill. You have to use the same sounds through out each project.
Hey guys connected my Keystep to KO II using the right type adapter so now working except many onboard sounds cut off shortly after playing, as if it's receiving a note off event even though the key is still pressed, making many of the melodic sounds unplayable (electric piano, organ, piano, etc). Installed latest OS (1.2.3) and tried to tweak envelope and sample length for the samples affected, neither was the issue. I tested various keyboard as controllers and it was the same issue. In case anyone knows...
TE needs to do a full recall. The amount of broken faders is atrocious. Sent mine back this morning. Was also very disappointed with the overall build quality. Will not be getting another.
Amazon video thank you! I wondered what the openings on the side were. Technic though? I love that so much. I imagine it’s a good strategy for connecting more than one ep together and using the plates on the back for extra support.
The fact that it’s got the form factor of an old calculator is kinda rad. I need a sampler, and I’m either gonna get this or maybe a novation rhythm. We’ll see what’s up. I think this is the answer, and you even mentioned the comps. 🎉
I have both …. They both have their pluses and minuses … I love the Novation workflow ….I get things done quick … but no time stretching ….but you can re sample ….but there is no visual display …..horses for courses as they say
I'm sure someone had told you by now but that trimming method is just for quick and dirty, you can trim more precisely for serious work in the sound menu with the plus and minus.. you know that by now right? Maybe you should put a disclaimer in so people won't think they have to trim annoyingly..
about the lego thing - potentially if they release more devices in this line of products - you could connect them with lego bricks and technic studs into one unit. Obviously it won't be very robust)))
Cool but if you need a sampler its worth the extra 200 to get the sp404mk2... 10x the features of this and also battery powered. BUT the form factor is what is awesome about TE and this is super portable... would have loved this when I was an actual teenager.
Tbh, the EP-133 seems neat but limited for the price, but has me most excited for whatever EP product they make next. I'd love to see the Arcade get the EP treatment.
Fader was broken for me and I started a return. I was delicate on the install because I saw the fader video first but it still was broken. TE support said that it was related to shipping?
So if you want to use its sounds and its sampler features for a more complex and changing "song" does it work with your daw as a midi module, multi timbral with effects? I know defeats the cool workflow but the samples sound really great and you might want to use it that way for your samples and for a whole song in your daw
I'm kind of interested in pairing this with my digitakt. It has polyphony and stereo samples. How's the MIDI implementation on this? Can I partially use the built-in sequencer and also have other things sequenced via MIDI?
Just got one of these yesterday. Still have no idea what I’m doing. But would it be easier to chop a long sample with the auto chop and then tweak each one?
Nice walk through some nice licks there thanks Jorb,.such a groovy box really apeels to my bass playing side, acquired an interest in the Yamaha seqtrak, have you had your mits on that one art all?
I know they're not really the same but... Im curious knowing you've owned both. If you only had a choice between one would you get this or a used mpc 1000? The mpc 1000 has a beefier work flow, but do you think the immediacy and modern features of the KO make it more worth while?
So different yeah... If I need to sequence hardware probably the 1k. Just as a sampler, this is faster, more modern. But if rather cut a record on the 1k 🤷🤷
Possible to automate those effects you're doing at 17:48? Like, maybe you wanna bitcrush every 4th snare or do like a filtersweep than happens every 4 bars or whatever. Or do you have to perform everything?
This is the first actual review thats a review I've seen. And for that I salute you 🫡 I ordered mine from TE and its yet to ship. Pretty frustrating but i have other gear thst still works fine to use until it does. I cut my teeth in the OP-Z and could use it easily without using a phone screen so this should be a lot easier to use hopefully. Just hope it plays nice with my other gear 🤔
For some reason you remind me of Chevy Chase in Vacation......don't know why, maybe its the fun feeling. Maybe its the way the presentation of the EP133 K.O. II is .....
I’d be curious how this - or a PO-33 KO through serious amplification; has anyone heard such a machine really amplified? Does it sound legit? Do the drums sound real-ish?
I love the "commit" workflow. Does anything else have similar? I just watched your video on the polyend play and it was like 5 clicks with two fingers to create a new "variation". I'm just a beginner who wants to make jams with his two year old, so looking for something to be the center of my setup.
If they wanted to make one product that would hit record sales one day... this was a great sales tactic to have everything else way over priced...for this would be a very good price from any company, but it's from the most expensive company around... and the design and the aesthetic fits the retro vibe us sampler using folks love... then, it is very portable via how thin it is... when the combo of the clothes and the device costs more than twice as much there's something weird going on... I really hope this wasn't a introductory price and they jack it up after this
I ordered one on a whim because it looks like a fun little box. Not sure how exactly it will fit into my workflow, but I've never had any sort of sampler before and it looked neat to play around with.
@@scamculture still haven't gotten a shipping confirmation for mine and I ordered it the morning of release. So we shall see. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to get rid of if I didn't vibe with it. But I was also planning on bringing it to work to noodle on my lunch breaks
@Neiltrama1 oh hey it's you again. Do you just go to every video for this product to be an asshole in the comments? Is this a good use of your time? Is your life that sad?
can i use punch in effects on per sample basis? or select just claps pattern/scene and perform a lets say hp filter on just that pattern/scene? or are punch in effects global only, meaning i can apply them only on entire track? thanks.
I been having fun with mine. I actually like trimming samples on here, using my ears vs my eyes. I have a mpc one plus to but I can’t take it with me everywhere like this.
What's your preferred tool for sampling vinyl? I'd love to have something that lives on my console for sampling. Been considering an MPC One but that feels like overkill.
Looking online I'm not seeing anything about being able to save projects to an SD card...is that not a thing with this device, or if it has a hard drive how many projects can it hold?
yo...so like....this thing is about the end result. the finished song idea. i don't think it's meant to have every possible feature. think of this: is it possible that if it did have every possible feature it would be a different instrument? so maybe having every possible feature can seem to be a good thing but may not actually be appropriate depending on the desired goal? think on these things. this applies to life too btw not just musical instruments.
@@JorbLovesGear ok I guess I could just export projects to my BlackBox...idk I like the options for playing it live but after 9 songs it looks like right now the only option is to get more than one, or export it and lose that playability maybe in future iterations they can expand the internal storage or add SD storage
@@pairadeau I mean, being able to move projects off on a card isnt like, a creatively engaging limitation. it just makes it frustrating to keep using it .

PLEASE HELP: I just got my unit today and I'm a total newbie. I erased my first project because it was not that good and then the pads are not playing normal sounds anymore. When I am in group A (drums) some of the pads does not have sounds and no. 9 plays sound 510 (not a drum sound). I guess I am in some kind of mode where the key pads are not playing original sounds. Can somebody please tell me how to get back to standard (without erasing all preloaded sounds)? I wen through the manual but I can't find a solution. Thank you so much.
I wonder if a Keystep style pressure “fader” would have been better . Or not. Or maybe just a knob as a fader. I guess anything that works is better than broken.
can't blame you TE really fumbled this release. the build quality made me decide to wait till they make a new version or maybe don't get it at all. broken gear is worthless. no matter how cool it is.

You can find a used SP404 mk2 for about the same price. Not sure I really need this. Looks fun.
I’m sure I don’t need K.O. II. Arrived today 🙌😆
the SP looks like a Brick of Garbage man - absolutly uninspiring for me personally. this thing sucks in other corners, but when you look at it, it has this "thang" 😏 the same with women. there are the ones who can do so much things and so much better, but then there is this one woman, she can't even cook or is stupid as hell, but you heart is telling you that your dick don't need no 5 star Meal 😂
The sp404 mk2 is a better choice in my opinion
23:48 - Pffft... "Backside"....
Seems worth the $. Just ordered mine. Thanks for this video!
I love the Little Feat t-shirt ☺️
TE needs to do a full recall. The amount of broken faders is atrocious. Sent mine back this morning. Was also very disappointed with the overall build quality. Will not be getting another.
You broke your fader you mean
@@lorrenaelliott161 for a complete beginner to music production who just wants to make some music for fun, which of the two would you recommend?
Oh dang, I thought this took batteries..?
@@jacobst.ongecasavant9327the KO II is battery powered, and apparently the battery life is really good too.
@@jacobst.ongecasavant9327 Yes, ...also battery powered...
they serve different purposes at the end of the day. i own a sp404 and i miss a more immediate drum machine sampler so i picked this up.
@@jacobst.ongecasavant9327 Both are battery powered, but the sp404mk2 has no speaker.
Tbh, the EP-133 seems neat but limited for the price, but has me most excited for whatever EP product they make next. I'd love to see the Arcade get the EP treatment.
I think that's a fair assessment, definitely.
I would love a drum machine one, factory or whatever
EP-132 tonic but with a non-drumsynth engine included designed by Sonic charge.
Great video Jorb!! Thank you!
🙏🫡🫡
quick and clear demo!
I’m liking everything I have seen so far.
Fader was broken for me and I started a return. I was delicate on the install because I saw the fader video first but it still was broken. TE support said that it was related to shipping?
i've heard a few stories about them being bad out of the box, really sucks
Great clear overview as usual, that give us a practical outlook in context 👾
🙏🙏🫡
So if you want to use its sounds and its sampler features for a more complex and changing "song" does it work with your daw as a midi module, multi timbral with effects? I know defeats the cool workflow but the samples sound really great and you might want to use it that way for your samples and for a whole song in your daw
I wish there were jump/catch options for the knobs in the system menu
I'm kind of interested in pairing this with my digitakt. It has polyphony and stereo samples. How's the MIDI implementation on this? Can I partially use the built-in sequencer and also have other things sequenced via MIDI?
Polyphony is 6 stereo samples, 12 mono.
so not great
@@JorbLovesGear could I have 1 voice as a stereo loop and then have 10 voices left over for mono polyphony? Or 2 and 8?
@@tothefinlandstation you got it
Just got one of these yesterday. Still have no idea what I’m doing. But would it be easier to chop a long sample with the auto chop and then tweak each one?
@@jayfanes1125 depends on the source, but yes, that can be a huge time saver
I have both. MPC 1000 is way more capable but tedious to use, KO is very limited but you are out the gate in a jiffy.
Possible to automate those effects you're doing at 17:48? Like, maybe you wanna bitcrush every 4th snare or do like a filtersweep than happens every 4 bars or whatever. Or do you have to perform everything?
You can automate the fader FX, but NOT the punch in fx. bitcrush should be a send effect
Your indepence is valuable in this climate
Wow! You’re able to palm that thing-and it’s not tiny
I've got freak mode long thumbs😅😭
Nice video!
Is there a way to mute/unmute Groups or Pads?
Groups you hold the group's letter and use the fader, can't remember pads lol
@@JorbLovesGear I know, but that's no muting that's fading
so in other words you have not a clue how it is done??
@@LESINDES I mean, you can slam the fader down to 0 😭
@@JorbLovesGear don't be silly, it's still a fade!
I‘m having fun exploring this thing. Fader knob went on with not much force. It seems that there are good examples around, too.
Great, Jorb.
Those patches sound pretty good!
For some reason you remind me of Chevy Chase in Vacation......don't know why, maybe its the fun feeling. Maybe its the way the presentation of the EP133 K.O. II is .....
It’s called split the out and bring it back in
I’d be curious how this - or a PO-33 KO through serious amplification; has anyone heard such a machine really amplified? Does it sound legit? Do the drums sound real-ish?
I love the "commit" workflow. Does anything else have similar? I just watched your video on the polyend play and it was like 5 clicks with two fingers to create a new "variation". I'm just a beginner who wants to make jams with his two year old, so looking for something to be the center of my setup.
If you fill in all 9 projects do they back up to the computer sonehow so you can make more without losing your creations?
(like on volca sample 1)
get a sp 404 mk2. It runs laps around this toy ko133
Same, its a but less fun than I was hoping but I might use it to make beats in bed lol
@@leftovernoiseYou should return it before the mass recall.
@@leftovernoisewith the federate issue it might be very hard to resell in the future.
can i use punch in effects on per sample basis? or select just claps pattern/scene and perform a lets say hp filter on just that pattern/scene? or are punch in effects global only, meaning i can apply them only on entire track?
Internal storage only, 9 "projects" but if you use the same sample pool, it's 999 scenes I think
yo...so like....this thing is about the end result. the finished song idea. i don't think it's meant to have every possible feature. think of this: is it possible that if it did have every possible feature it would be a different instrument? so maybe having every possible feature can seem to be a good thing but may not actually be appropriate depending on the desired goal? think on these things. this applies to life too btw not just musical instruments.
@@JorbLovesGear ok I guess I could just export projects to my BlackBox...idk I like the options for playing it live but after 9 songs it looks like right now the only option is to get more than one, or export it and lose that playability maybe in future iterations they can expand the internal storage or add SD storage
@@pairadeau I mean, being able to move projects off on a card isnt like, a creatively engaging limitation. it just makes it frustrating to keep using it
.
@@JorbLovesGear totally get that. but do we usually want to marry the ones that are easy or the hard to get? i'm kinda serious tho....(of course not everyone that's hard to get is worth marrying and blah blah blah but that's why we gots discernment no?)
Unresponsive fader out of the box. Returned it and now a two month wait. Back to my mpc. I’ll wait for a second edition.
Huge drag
PLEASE HELP: I just got my unit today and I'm a total newbie. I erased my first project because it was not that good and then the pads are not playing normal sounds anymore. When I am in group A (drums) some of the pads does not have sounds and no. 9 plays sound 510 (not a drum sound). I guess I am in some kind of mode where the key pads are not playing original sounds. Can somebody please tell me how to get back to standard (without erasing all preloaded sounds)? I wen through the manual but I can't find a solution. Thank you so much.
You just need to select new sounds again, for each of the pads. That's part of what gets stored in the project
@@JorbLovesGearThanks, now I get it. Thought that I had lost some kind of default setting 😅
Look at that, a working fader on a K.O. II ! Haven't seen one in a while, pardon my surprise. (mine's broken and I'm salty as hell about it)
I wonder if a Keystep style pressure “fader” would have been better . Or not. Or maybe just a knob as a fader. I guess anything that works is better than broken.
can't blame you TE really fumbled this release. the build quality made me decide to wait till they make a new version or maybe don't get it at all. broken gear is worthless. no matter how cool it is.

Great video! Re HPF applying to a sound - can you apply it as a recorded fader. On that PAD?
On the whole *group* yes
Canceled my order today. Didn't get a shipping notice one week later, and in the end this is just a little loop sequencer sampler box with one send effect.
Have enough hardware that can do this much better.
yeah they fumbled this release even though it was cool and had initial hype. the build quality and shipping issues just show how unprofessional TE really is.
What pisses me off is it was available from retailers the day it launched but I ordered mine from TE when it launched and I'm still waiting for mine (ETA Tuesday)
@@ColonelForkEyes yeah I've heard a lot of people same thing happening
