With this many guitars you've got I think you should finally do a blindfold challenge and see how well you can tell them apart
This is actually a brilliant idea, sit blindfolded, get Bethany to hand you different guitars and see how many you can identify.
Jared Dines already did that, it's pretty cool
Or just send a couple my way.. 😂
Yes
That'd be great
Playing a guitar out of tune is easy. Doing it well is hard.
You're right dude
I play out of tune badly :P
@@cheebsgod well you play guitar out of tune badly well, if that makes sense?😂
Lmao that one got me
You right because I play out of tune all the time and it sounds like I’ve never played guitar ever because in my life
He loves showing his collection, always puts a smile on my face
not for my wallet .
Not much of a collection if you shill for the company. Probably got them all for free.
@@NostalgiaforInfinity Jealousy is a very unattractive trait.
@@vedder10 Flaunting is even less. And no, I'm not jealous. I don't want 50 guitars. "Ain't nobody got time for that".
@@NostalgiaforInfinity Ok no animosity between you and I but please honestly answer me this. You really wouldn't wouldn't want a collection of 50 guitars if you had the chance? I'm assuming you're a guitar player or at least an enthusiast.
John Mayer is one of the greatest guitarists active today. I was blown away the first time going to one of his live shows. Somehow he makes everything work, even if it’s out of tune. And it is bluesy: the “blue note” is usually just slightly off key and it’s an art form that the bluesmen popularized.
Not even just active today, one of the greatest of all time period.
John Mayo bend string good
Dovydas is an amazing guitarist too! Check him out if you haven't already! Brilliant musician!
John Mayer has talked a lot about using semi tone/ microtonal bends to get out of the standard pentatonic sound when soloing. He’s really big on adding color to keep his sound from being to stale. It’s actually a really sound approach that I spent a big part of last year trying to internalize. Blues guitarists have been doing it for decades but I actually was introduced to it from Mayer
I toned a lot more appreciate and respect for Steve Vai when I learned that he wrote out every guitar part for Frank Zappa when he was a teen. When he was interviewed by Rick Beaty , their discussion of microtones and international music and the guitar, it was clear he has an understanding of sound that is beyond my comprehension. That is we all can hear it. They just can do it better than most of us:)
@@rikkousa his work with Zappa was exceptional
A deep depression is taking me away from my guitar, but this video really invites to unpacking it and to give a try. Thanks for a great review, love that color.
feel better !!!
Be well buddy!
For me, putting on some headphones or turning the amp low and clean and really just feeling out the instrument with eyes closed or in a dark room can help when feeling like that.
I'd recommend you try it just to find some old, friendly tones that made you love it in the first place.
love yourself
Sorry to hear that man.
I love listening to JM's 'As/Is' live albums because I think that was just around about the time when he was starting to really mess with micro-tunings and you can kind of hear him trying stuff during that tour and showing what he'd learned. Some of it works and some of it doesn't but he still totally pulls it off.
What’s a micro tuning
That little tapping riff at beginning was soooo sweet! Nice work man!
Isn’t that John Mayer playing with him air guitar lip syncing? Pretty sure that’s not his tone. Sounds like a Dumble pretty sure he spends too much on guitars to save up the 130k to buy one. Why anyone would need more guitars than they can play is beyond me. Especially considering a PRS doesn’t appreciate much unless it’s private stock- pretty lousy investment to buy a bunch of John Mayer models. There was one for on reverb for 1500 this weekend, why bother with SE crap- recommend people to shop online and spend a few hundred more. I would take a USA made PRS with a ding or two over an SE any day. They ship in gig bags new ones show up dinged everyday.
@Bo Jangles no it’s him playing he just replicated his tone really really well
@@judahunderwood8433 oh wow pretty amazing. I wonder if he had a Dumble. There are also $600 ethos pedals, I think some even more. Two Rock amps are Dumble knock offs he had 25 made as his signature at one point. I know JM uses Dumbles one he owned was 150k on eBay. Another came up 130k. Most expensive amps ever. Only made for pros by one guy. I don’t think JM had one made the guy stopped making them in the 80’s or 90’s. He buys them.
@@bojangles6444 This dude seriously thinking Tyler is "Air Guitaring" like wtf? Its ok dude, other people can play guitar really, really well too.
@@shmirginhymer1867 no I was confused I thought it was something JM played he was imitating I mistook the dialogue. I know he can play. What I didn’t recognize was him with a Dumble tone it’s not that easy to replicate that well. Not about playing more tone perfecting. I wonder what he used- a pedal or amp. 2 rock makes Dumble clones. It’s not the exact same skill. Some good players have bad tone. Randy Rhodes is considered one but I think he was ok. I am 40 played since 12 I don’t hear that well dude- protect your ears if you still can. A loud amp and cymbals near your ear for a couple years will cause lasting damage. Plus I played drums- always loud. I have to use closed captioning on my phone to hear the words bro. If you are in a band try to get custom ear plugs with filters bc that’s the only way to get the bass and lows- worked for my friends. They have to be made.
Back in the 90’s you went from practice amp to head with 4x12 cabinet everything was bigger lol- 15 watt amps were for practice now they are legit amps. We didn’t have 1x12 cabs- I never saw a one speaker cab until past few years. Marshall heads were often 500 bucks. We all played too loud.
First 30 seconds was just Tyler showing off how rich he is. Thanks for showing us it's possible.
All that gear in the intro still costs less than my mid range, used piano. 😆
@@Fivemonthslater1 Is this piano diamond plated?😂
First SE Silver Sky I have heard! Sounds amazing! Just too bad they will be so hard to get! Congratulations to John for this amazing signature model!
Why will they? Sweetwater has plenty in stock right now of the Dragonfruit color and the others on the way.
Yea I just bought one, pretty easy an widely available. What are you talking about?
There’s plenty of stock
Buying any guitar is difficult at the moment because covid shut down the entire industry and they're playing catch up. Every physical guitar shop I go into is severely lacking in selection. And only a moron would buy a guitar without trying it themselves, by ordering it online or something, so the only choice is physical guitar shops
@@duffman18 calling someone a moron for buying online is a pretty daft statement. Sweetwater let's you try the instrument for up to 90 days and if you don't like it return it. Simple solution to your problem of physical shops being empty. But guess I'm just a moron talking outta my ass lol.
I want that magical guitar stand
Yeah you can buy it for just 200 dollars
It’s a prs floating stand
Just like tone, the magic is in his fingers
@@JSaltyfabricator couldn’t say it better
Good thing PRS gave him a Silver Sky SE, so that he could finally own his FIRST EVER PRS and start his collection.
Yeah sometimes I figure out his solos by ear and am amazed by how he bends
Shit…. This guys cool.
@@will1718 true
He is good at bending
This song reminded me a bit of Jeff Beck and his bends…people get ready cover by Rod Stewart with JB on lead….of course Beck uses the whammy a lot more but he can also get it out of tune to hit the notes as well…
Long time watcher here. 🎸🤘🏼 Would you/could you (if you havent already) do a how-to video on your 10-20 favorite licks. Theres lots of tutes on scales/modes/boxes etc, but not many on a methodical breakdown on the actual mechanics on some of these epic licks and runs. Hammer ons, pull offs,
slides, double stop bends etc. Thanks!
100% agree!
My girlfriend says John Mayer was mean to Taylor swift. So I make sure to play plenty of John Mayer.
That's how it's done😂😂😂
We hear she is a control freak, skating on her looks??? John, Plays Guitar. Will someone tell me the facts?? Thanks.
Who tf is Taylor swift
@@vincenzodemarco7983 she was 19 and he was a lot older, they had beef about being manipulative against each other. She wrote a song called dear John, John was hurt about it and wrote paper doll about her 👍🏻
@@idzardjumpen Thanks. I knew she wrote that song about him, but not the reason why. Thanks Again. 👊
I love this vid.
You demoed the guitar of the day without making it boring.
It made me want to play like that..on one of those.
Well played Sir..
Well played
Great video! I wasn't going to watch any more SE videos, glad I did.
The sum of all the parts sounds amazing! Guitar looks amazing with the antique white. How does it feel compared to the non SE version?
Moon white
@@yourmom-me7mi Although IMO Antique would be a more accurate description of the color...
@@yourmom-me7mi dont be that guy 😒
It looks kinda yellow.... Anyone here have it? is it more white or yellow in person?
Watched the whole video then went back and watched your jam again. I think I've found a genre I actually want to practice.
1/4 note bends are definitely classic. Angus Young & BB King definitely opened my eyes to them. Mayer too
Michael Schenker
MGK?

Fender Player Series or PRS Silver Sky SE??
Right?!
On a side note. This guitar sounds amazing and looks amazing EXCEPT I just can’t get over a prs headstock on a strat body. Props to prs for making an affordable killer player though!
Same I’d love to have one but the headstock just throws me off
We had a Silver Sky at home for a year. A $2,300 (now PRS is $2,600) Fender sounds and plays better than it. It was my roomates. He sold it to buy a Fender & even with the loss of cash a $1,800 Fender was far better lol
I’ve never tried one so I really can’t comment but I will tell you a random yet somewhat related fact: I own suhrs, custom shop fenders and Gibson, etc…and my best playing guitar is a Mexican made roadworn strat that I had dialed in perfectly by an incredible luthier.
"affordable". It's over $900 when you account for taxes. It's literally a Indonesian made cortek guitar selling for $850 cause Mayer's name is attached to it.
@@codykensington1424 Squier classic vibes go for $500 now. I think anything under $1000 thats actually good quality is reasonable.
I fully intend to get an SE Silver Sky. I'll be getting a green one, though.
7:20 sounds like a Jimmy Hendrix tone and I love it
thats what i thought, too. it also is the last chord that really brought it in.
The very nice guitar I love the color and The Shield I wonder what stricken with sound like on it you should try it on it your next video
Hey, really love the show and have a request. Can you explain which peddles ideally I should be stacking to create a rock, blues or jazz tone. For instance what should I be listening out for in a song to know I need to introduce a Klon, Octavia, Chorus, Delay, or fuzz etc… Appreciate there is a myriad of variables, but a rough guide would be awesome.
Tyler I could really use your help here. I just bought some fender genuine saddle screws for my partscaster and I can't figure out what size the Allen wrench is my old screws are I believe 1.5 but I'm thinking I need a 0.5 is that the standard on fender Stratocasters
I play out of tune notes all the time - it’s not that hard. 😊
🍪
Man dude i look up to you every time I see your channel, really inspires me to play my guitar. I just hope someday I would own an array of pedals like you have, a whole room crammed to the top with guitars and amps and a toilet with basses in it (just like yours). Keep rocking man, you're amazing.
Man that tone is insane.. and your playing is amazing
I have two PRS SE baritones and they are primo. Very good build quality. Very good value.
Would like to hear more of the PRS HNDX amp for non Hendrix tones. Is it a 1 trick pony? How versatile is it?
Love the video
Very nice collection! Very satisfying to look at :-)
I grew up in Annapolis, MD. When I was a teen, I'd walk into PRS's little shop downtown. He was so nice to us kids and didn't mind us peppering him with questions while he worked. Fast forward a few years and I was at a Santana concert. Santana invited Paul onstage. I'm here to tell you the man plays as well as he builds. A legend!
Damn son! Your really good man, I just found this channel
That looks and sounds great! I wonder how long it will take to make it up to the frozen north?
badass guitar and you’re playing makes it even more badass
Everyone has a video out today on the new SE. Now I want one!!!!!
Is it not also the fantastic amplifier you have that is producing the great clear tones. I had one in the seventies and wish I had another. The super reverb with its four tens is fantastic.
What are your thoughts on the SE as a beginner guitar? I started on acoustic which I love but thinking to go to electric. Still beginner stage. Lol
Lovely playing!!!
Love the color!
Great feeling behind the playing 👌🤙
The first part of your solo before adding distortion was some of your most musical playing!
Wow, that solo at the beginning.i love it.tasteful playing😋😋
I used to not like John Mayer because they over played his less impressive songs on the radio but then I saw him playing live and I have since been obsessed with his music. He’s truly incredible and to play as well as he does while singing is even more incredible
This videos great but I’m looking for a video shooting the SE and core model
Thanks a lot dear Tyler but fun fact is, what you call out of tune, those quarter bends, they're widely used in middle eastern music (Persian, Turkish, Arabic) and for someone who's used to listen to these quarter tones it's really delightful to have them like a spice added to western music
John knows how to use Glissando in his playing ...the feeling of tension makes listeners uneasy ...hence the attention being drawn to the event ...Great video Tyler!!
Amazing. I listened to the beginning like 10 times
I love listening to that intro solo. It's AWESOME!
Is that a Mayer song or are you just playing in that style?
Just got my first guitar yesterday! Any free courses you recommend?
does anyone know what he did and why he did it on his laptop or tablet thing with the amp sim looking thing
Please tell us what you think of the when we were young festival
Watching from Nepal
Big fam❤️❤️
Very inspiring stuff for me as a hobbyist
the beginning of this video is the hardest flex i have ever seen
That is some sick ass tone man!!
Xlnt review of SE silver sky. The moon white/yellow is the best color. And yes it sounds really good like a Strat but I bet any decent guitar sounds good thru a super reverb. Rockon.
Infos about the price?
the fact that you have 3 different colors of my dream guitar makes me jealous of your whole existence😭
So fucking good. God I love this groove John made with slow dancing. I need a beer after this. 🤣❤️
What song does he play around the 9:00 mark?
Awesome man!!! 😎🤘🏻💯
15 baby!!! 15!!! I remember being 15yrs old, sort a lol. Bro, BRO, BROOOOOO! T.L. Dude SOOOOOOOO FREAKING AWESOME!!! What do you even say to a regular person who only has one or two guitars? You’re talking to them and they ask you, yo bro how many guitars do you have, and you say well with my PRS’s I have 15. And with insert brand and # of said guitars. Anyway……. You’re the best, your talent and style and way that you play are uniquely yours. I would say you have found a certain way of playing and a certain personality with the guitar. You have a relationship with these sacred pieces of wood. Which you are allowed to play sounds and frequencies that can change the way ppl feel about all sorts of things, ALL THINGS, ALL OF CONSCIOUSNESS. I AM, WE ARE, ONE. Never stop following and allowing your passion to tell you what needs to be done next. It will guide you effortlessly through life using synchronicities as the flow. The invisible silver thread of fate/destiny that is tied to the ULtimate ONE. Follow your passion and it will never leave you needing in any area of your life!!! LOVE, Serenity, Peace!!!
Any pedal recommendations from anybody for a melodic, reverby, satriani tone? Got a Marshall dsl if it matters
Can you make a video about pedals on the cheaper side? I'm 13 and can barely afford a JHS 3 series let alone anything more then that. My only pedal right now is a Digitech Hot Head Distortion, i love it for more bluesy toned instead of super gritty deep tones that distortion usually does.
My main inspirations right now are super clean and crispy sounds like Mac Demarco, and the slapping style of Flea and John Mayer. So probably a cheap boost and/or overdrive could help me, but i don't know what pedals are good or not. I really need some recommendations, preferably under $150.
What live John mayer footage is that shown?
Kinda like the concept in that video with victor wooten u have . It’s about feel the key is important and can dictate a lot but when you can manipulate pitch you can pretty much Bend the instrument to your will thus making a part that is more musically expressive and has more personality. Making a wrong note right and all that . All that nuance really adds to music and gets people interested and enjoying the sounds you make .
I really enjoy your videos that go in depth with cool concepts like this bro 🤙🏾
I just Pre-ordered one in the same color, Moon White.
which song is this in the beginning
Paul Reed Smith is my favorite guitar and that Strat style PRS is just awesome
luv it. Nice jam too 👍
Which song was the on in the beggining?
Not a strat fan,but now i want one
Very nice bud! Silky
So when are you getting a microtonal guitar
Cool video, the intro is fantastic XD
Just put one in that color on order…is it as yellow in person as it is seems to be in pics and video?
comfort cut for left hand looks so killer
What a great rendition of Slow Dancing in the beginning (and end!)
Do you actually have a back-rounded ovation guitar?? I think that if you don't it could be sick if you buy one
This technique/way of playing kinda came pretty naturally to me I never had to make an effort to play outside the lines, idk what that says about me or other plays but that's all this is, feel. It can't be taught but it can be learned.
yeah I was thinking the same, didn’t realize people had to put this much thought into it
Do you think they will make a maple fret board version?
what’s the song at the start
Those are some really nice strats you got there.
Your rendition of that song was amazing
What’s that chord progression on loop underneath? Cheers.
Despite what people say, I actually enjoy seeing Tyler’s collection
Wait, how did you match the ohms from the Super to the Ox Box? Super is a 2ohm load and the lowest the Ox goes is 4ohms.
I usually tune my B string down about 15-20 cents just because I’ve found it to be more comfortable. I’m not really a guitarist but when I do play guitar I’ll often do so out of tune.
Nice work Tyler, way to break up the monotony of “NDA expiry day” with some stunning playing and a really interesting critique and analysis.
What pedals and amp used? Love the tone
The expensive as hell Klon Centaur and a less expensive JHS Bonsai probably set to the TS10 setting.
Very very nice!!
How do I get someone to send me guitars?
Black Sabbath Master of Reality was the first album Iommi started down tuning and chasing some tones that basically invented heavy metal. Then Vol.4 unleashed many of the concepts Tyler is speaking on. As a kid listening to Vol.4 for the first time I kept thinking my Sony Walkman was burning up? That bogging grinding tone just blew my mind!
Are you using amplitube
Someday I will be able to have a Guitar like that!
Rad channel man
John Frusciante recorded Under the Bridge with an out of tune B string as well and it sounds amazing. I also recall years ago reading Rick Rubin say about John that he was the most knowledgeable musician he had ever worked with at the time and Rick Rubin as we all know works with pretty much every major act out there.
That's a hell of a compliment coming from a guy like Rick Rubin. I also remember Rick going on in the interview about all the different scales and keys and the way they interact with each other which Frusciante knows quite well.
Not at all surprised an expert player like Mayer is also experimenting with out of tune notes on purpose to deliver amazing music. The depth of knowledge one must have to do this well, I wonder if it's happening by accident or if they intend on creating these on purpose. Extremely interesting topic though. Please do more on this.
