@@mattedjon-veryaccuratetabs Thank you , but i can't read or write the music , music theory isn't my cup of tea , maths either ... I won't tell you it is useless , but i play the blues mostly , and a little bit of work is enough for that , at least at the low level where i stand ...
That intro solo was like nothing else! All of the greatest guitarists and styles making an appearance, fading in, fading out, exploding, and trickling away. That 2:40 aggressive progression made me think of Mono (of Japan) and the storytelling is glorious.
I'm with the majority here, in that the solo and the song were lovely, and I'm definitely going to watch it several times to appreciate it fully. BUT, I'm going to have to close my eyes to learn anything, 'cause all I want to do is stare at the PRS. And it'll take a very long time to unpack all the things I think are amazing about the artistry in that axe. Cheers, Paul, and wow.
Holy effing shit, that is probably one of the best solos I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing and seeing! This genre of music is not my thing, more of a classic rock / metal kinda guy, but this absolutely blew me away! You are my motivation to keep practicing as a beginner guitarist. Dus, van de bodem van m’n hart, hartelijk dank!
Just listened to it again, then again and again. Love that solo Paul. I love that you shredded a little bit but you didn't just shred for the sake of shredding. It fit the song, was melodic and sounded great... And that guitar... WOW!
Although the song isn't my most beloved genre, it's very well done and I will admit that I got a bit lost listening to it. Especially the solo. I'm only just really learning how to play lead guitar. Recently, I've been figuring out what my favorite riffs are, and how I would want to play. This solo is excellent, it's what I'm looking for! It tells a story! There's something about music that ebbs and flows, carrying your emotions this way and that. Soft and slow, to hard and fast. I look forward to the day that I can write licks like that. P.S., this song has earned a spot on my playlist.
Practice practice till you learn the fretboard and where you can find any sound/note/triad you want. Scales may help here. 45 years ago i used them a bit when learning keyboards. After some years and learning where any sound or combination of sounds in many keys or different places in the same key can be found, scales became unnecessary. There was no caged system back then, and not much literature to hep either. No youtube to watch finger positions. To learn a song you listened, then tried to find what was being played. A bit slower than now we have youtube and can watch whats happening, but with a good ear you got there:) I was blesses with near perfect pitch so it came easy to me, but guitar for me is just one of many interests. I dont have the time to lock myself away for hours practicing. Much of the time i have been away surfing and adventuring all around the south pacific. Now ime 62 and slowing down a bit ime devoting more time to guitar and am getting much better. The more time you put in, the better you will get, IF you are born with the natural talent. Without that, its a long hard road:/ These bloody lockdowns help too. I dont get the people that go nuts during lockdown and suicide or have mental breakdowns. Ive never needed human companionship. Always travelled alone to very remote places, surfed alone, or occasionally met up with a like minded stranger which admittidly makes it more fun and less dangerous, not that the danger ever bothered me. Ive had close calls. Bad reef cuts and carried out to sea in a bad rip, but ive always managed to survive. Even a broken neck at C7 never stopped me. I waited two days for the boat in agony, then two days to a hospital in Indo where x rays showed i was very lucky there was no displacement, just a crack right through. Any wrong movement could have made it move and paralysed me, or worse, but it didnt. Two years in a neck brace sleeping on my back and no surfing, good guitar practice though. While travelling i always bases myself in Phuket Thailand. A short hop to anywhere in Indo when a swell hit. Better than the old days with no forecasting. You turned up at a break with your food and water and waited for the waves, sometimes for weeks:/I had a home and a bar in Phuket till the 04 tsunami wiped it off the face of the earth. In those 12 years i played in the banana bar every friday night and practiced when i felt like it. Head first from the lip of an 8 to 10 foot grinder over coral, [pitched like an arrow] didnt finish me. Bad cuts didnt. Cerebral malaria at Nias in 82 when it was a three day journey to a hospital didnt finish me[the right meds saved me, not many others]. My favorite wave Nias, been 6 times over the decades. In 81 you surfed alone or with two or three others, now its crowds of mostly kooks who dont even take off mostly, or boatloads of pros pulling into the bay and trying to take over. There is a road from the capital in the north now, makes it a lot easier than a long boat journey down and around the coast into Nias bay where the best right hand setup ive ever found exists. Look it up on google earth, you can see it breaking. A few punches to the head stops the hassling and most then take their turn. i If you travel where cerebral malaria is common, always have a drug called Fansidar in your kit. It will save your life giving you three vital days to get help. You cant take it all the time, very bad side effects if taken regularly. But taken at onset of symptoms it will, save your life. Ive seen two deaths from C malaria, its not pretty and i was to late arriving to save them. One death from a fin chop to the femoral artery at Nias. he was dead before we got him to shore. Sometimes its better to be lucky that good. Saw two guys drown in 40 years of surfing, many years before jetskis. Nowadays the spirit of adventure seems dead. Surfers flock in large numbers to surf resorts, most of which are in the Mentawais that we surfed near alone for decades before they were discovered, but Bloody photographers put everything in surf mags and now the surf resorts are everywhere and boat charters take the moneyed up surfers everywhere where they pack out the breaks. There are only a few secrets left, and a few places the average surfer wont touch cos of the heaviness factor. Glad i had it at its best for sure. The way things are now makes me sad:/ Anyway, more guitar time the last couple of years. At 62 ive forgotten more that ive learned, but its coming back with many hours of practice. Dont know about you all but smoking good weed before getting stuck in is just great for creativity and it sounds just so much better than when your straight. However i find that getting tuned satisfactorily is a pain, lol. Now i dont know if others would agree that i sound better when stoned, as i mostly play alone these days. My band days ended at about 30 when it became very hard to make worthwhile money playing in pubs like you could in the 80s:/ These days its me and a looper and sometimes a mate who plays sax. Playing with lots of people is good in that you learn different things from others, playing alone, its online music and your own imagination leading to a style that is individual, if far from complete. One thing i hated about playing in bands was having to play music i was not really into. Boring:/ These days i play what i want, i experiment, i get some ideas from what i hear online, then incorporate the parts i like into something new. Keep it up young guys, it takes a lot of practice but its worth it. Dont lose heart and while young and learning play with as many people as possible. This riff above i dont much like, though Paul is a great guitarist he "knows it":/ No offense intended, i learn a lot from him and others. Marco Cirillo has a lot to teach though who it is that names the clips in the feed needs shooting:/ Cheers all, sorry for the long post. Must have been something i ingested, lol

As soon as the solo started, I dialed up my volume knob, had to ... and even further in the middle ... didn't realise that at the end I was on max volume. Goosebumps all over! 🧡
I didn't know what I expected clicking on this video, but it brought me to tears feeling the overwhelming wave of emotion and depth encapsulated in that magnificent and unmatched solo performance. Saying "well done" is a grossly insufficient understatement.
I can't believe I'm this late to the party but I just heard the song about 5 minutes ago. Incredible stuff. The solo has to be a modern classic! I was sitting in a cafe in midtown Ankara when this came on and at first it was "this is a nice chill song, totally the right ambience for a boutique coffeeshop like this one" and then the solo started. I was blown away: this is Nuno, Clapton, Beck level playing! I HAD to find out who this was. So, I walked right up to the speakers like a lunatic, and shazammed it. Imagine my astonishment when I saw the name 'Paul Davids'. The guy from RUclips? The very same. Immediate spotify follow. This song and this solo can only be described as a gift to us all. Godspeed man.
Beautiful! ...one of the most heart-full solo Ive ever heard! and the whole track was great as well; I think it filled you and prepared your mood so you could give that solo piece birth.
The best solo I ever played was the one which I still have no idea how it happened. Was in a concert and I just went for it, mx fingers did something, my brain was not involved at all. our bandleader looked at me and got totally enthused. Mainly because I was less than mediocre normally and fucked up a lot. That time I felt touched by some genius which sadly afterwards never returned 😂
As a improvisation the solo was really -really very` good, because of player knowledge theory, practice, passion experience and emotions exploded in one. You has been used guitar and additional effects with finesse, smooth, perfect changes, in a split second it shows us what quality you represent. Love it. Thank you.
I cannot help but admire this man’s ability to just sit down and play the instrument for the instrument it is without any notion of other artists or songs that he’s heard influencing his play just purely playing the instrument how he wants it to sound and what his idea of how it should sound in his head flat out without any thought of scales or chords that’s what I dream and aspire for as a guitarist and I hope I can come even halfway as close as this man has to that
This is one of the single best things I’ve laid my ears on. You’ve got me out of a guitar slump and given me inspiration! I’m going to spend a grand on a guitar now haha (I’m not joking). Seriously though, I love your work and everything you’ve done Paul, you were and still are one of the main reasons I play and even picked up guitar in the first place ❤️ can I ask I’ve been looking into buying my second guitar and want it to be my ‘main’ ‘forever’ guitar. I think I want a strat either that or a jazz master, I have a cheap tele already but wondered what strat to buy for about £1000 second hand. Been looking at semi old (2008ish) American standards but not sure what to get as appearance matters for me to feel inspired and I’m limited to virtually only Olympic white and bursts.
My non-expert suggestion would be to try out some guitars even if they aren’t second hand and whatever feels right get it. You can upgrade some parts pretty easily later if you don’t a couple but you can’t make the whole guitar feel perfect without remaking most the guitar. You may not even like the feel of a strat or jazz master too and having a guitar you want to play, but feel restrained by, sitting there is the worst feeling
Exactly, it’s my issue with my cheap tele and I want to learn and play but I feel so uninspired and restrained as you said yourself. thank you so much! I’ll have a look into trying some stuff out!
If you haven’t learned how to set up your guitar yet that will also make a world of difference. Paul has a video about it somewhere which was super helpful. It seems intimidating but you can’t change anything that you can’t fix. Don’t shy away from another cheap guitar too. I have a $150 Tele that plays just as well as my Fender Strat
Thank you! I guess my reasoning behind a more expensive guitar is I want to keep it for life and have a strong bond with it and because I’m a perfectionist I feel as if having what is ‘perfect’ to me will make me actually progress etc. As I said earlier though the aesthetic matters to me and there isn’t much choice in the £1000 range for colour, whereas the cheaper guitars have infinite choice. I don’t know I’m going to try find a guitar store and try some stuff out I think :)
This is the stuff that makes me remember why it’s so good to be a guitarist. Not that I could play that of course. Also is that guitar on sale or is it a custom model made for you.
I can super appreciate the song , the guitar and the mastery of the solo. I mean everything is professional and tasteful and yeah you all did a fantastic job. It all is NOT to my taste though, even the PRS. But Paul, you are the man and an exceptional guitarist, teacher and RUclipsr and so many things you have done I adore.
For me, I'm not a great fan of this solo and kind of got lost when the tapping/pedals came in. You're an awesome guitarist and I love the page though 👍🏻. It makes you appreciate the true genius of the slow, melodic solos people like George Harrison, Don Felder and John Mayer have produced.
Totally agree here, I have heard so many delicate licks by Paul Davids, the tapping part was like a "cheveu sur la soupe" as we say in French... This is the first time I don't enjoy Paul Davids playing!
I don’t thing the tapping was the problem, for me its the several changes between different styles that didn’t quite fit the track (drums and guitar ) and techniques that feel as if they were forced into the solo… But still Paul is probably the best RUclips guitarist😅
@@marrow94 the whole first half had a bunch of John mayerish licks though. I would even say that the first tapping lick could have been inspired by what John plays on igijfl or slow dancing(live)

Lots of influence of SRV too…
@@MarkRiddellRacing Biggest influence of SRV is in the huge vibrato during high bends like 3:20 in my opinion
More Eddie Hazel than Van Halen imo
Yeaa I hear the Mayer there too. The Gravity solo.
There was a line from that killer Chris Buck solo (from that colab video) too, just after those Mayer things.
Maybe a sprinkle of Chris buck early in the solo too.
That guitar solo is exquisite.
That's the best word I can think of to describe it.
MINDBLOWING.
It's the best solo I ever heard.
That solo truly is really emotional.
A mixture of hard rock and jazz
Beautiful
The guitar got me to click more than the title did. That’s a beautiful instrument. Love the song/solo as well!
Beautiful song, masterpiece solo.
Those tapping bends took me to a whole other level.
Salut!
I've seen a lot of guitars in my day but the PRS takes the cake, the neck & headstock with the birds is spectacular, by far the coolest neck/headstock design I have ever seen. I want one! 🙌🏻🎵🎶🎼🎸
By the way exceptional solo & really great song, great job. 🤙🏻🎸🎵🎶🎼🙌🏻
man, I'm so so so glad that this masterpiece is on amazon music it's damn genius...
and btw the PRS looks amazing
Dude. I really enjoyed this. Achievement unlocked: You make me want to play more guitar. That PRS is gorgeous, and sounds great too! My address is...
Paul really out here flexing an amazing guitar and even more amazing skill. Top notch!
as a wise man once said:
"a good solo is one you can sing along to"
You'd have to be Boyz II Men to hit all them notes tho, damn
Well, I can't sing the solos of Bohemian Rapsody, Fade To Black or Sultans of Swing... I guess there're bad solos 🤔
@@mattedjon-veryaccuratetabs I don't even try with "little wing " solo , a woman is necessary there , and a talented one ....!
@@sirzembla4512 by the way, I've made the tabs for this solo :

@@mattedjon-veryaccuratetabs Thank you , but i can't read or write the music , music theory isn't my cup of tea , maths either ... I won't tell you it is useless , but i play the blues mostly , and a little bit of work is enough for that , at least at the low level where i stand ...
That intro solo was like nothing else! All of the greatest guitarists and styles making an appearance, fading in, fading out, exploding, and trickling away. That 2:40 aggressive progression made me think of Mono (of Japan) and the storytelling is glorious.
Wow, the fret board on that PRS is stunning. Absolute masterpiece of a guitar. And you play it SO well.
What is the model?
Solo literally made me tear up. That was absolutely wonderful.
Paul Davids YOU Nailed THIS ! SO Nice & Textured with Every Chance and Flows as the River Does ! Well Done FAN.
Just listened to it again, then again and again. Love that solo Paul. I love that you shredded a little bit but you didn't just shred for the sake of shredding. It fit the song, was melodic and sounded great...
And that guitar... WOW!
You checked all the boxes, brother, most of all made a really nice song, even better
@@TheZacdes Can't say I've seen a comment this long on RUclips, but it was worth the read, my friend. Thank you for sharing you story! It actually means a lot to me. I should say that I'm 17, I'm pretty new to the world lol.
I'm not one to brag and I don't mean to sound this way when I say it, but I was blessed to have an ear for music and my brain is just wired for it. The natural talent is awesome since it kinda gets me ahead of a lot of people, but it sucks if I can't find things to learn. Thankfully I'm taking guitar lessons now. I'm certain that I'll improve, and I intend to do a lot of practicing. I know the place where I want to be and recently I've figured out the way to get there.
P.S. Don't beat yourself up about sharing a long comment. Some of us still enjoy the read!
@@firewing38 Paul here has a lot of good lessons for those who are pretty new to guitar, and other instruments!! Marco Cirillo too! Two of my favorites. Lessons from intermediate to advanced!
Beautiful solo. Beautiful guitar
That was so cool... You are on point with the narrative. Great work. Love you much... 🤙💞🙏
@junko Not interested...
Killer solo (of course) but I realized how silly I looked, trying to hum along with the finger-tapping parts! 😝 Beautifully done Paul!
Lovely playing, and that is one the most beautiful guitars I've seen.
Absolutely stunning playing, had me close to tears, so tasteful and dynamic.
Beautiful! ...one of the most heart-full solo Ive ever heard! and the whole track was great as well; I think it filled you and prepared your mood so you could give that solo piece birth.
Beautiful solo Paul! Almost reminiscent of Chris Buck's solo on your '10 guitarists' video 👌🏻
Love it. Thank you.
I cannot help but admire this man’s ability to just sit down and play the instrument for the instrument it is without any notion of other artists or songs that he’s heard influencing his play just purely playing the instrument how he wants it to sound and what his idea of how it should sound in his head flat out without any thought of scales or chords that’s what I dream and aspire for as a guitarist and I hope I can come even halfway as close as this man has to that
Absolutely beautiful solo! Almost as beautiful as that PRS ;D
Legit the best looking PRS I have ever seen
Best of luck!
Paul: I like solos that technically don't blow me away.
Also Paul: *Proceeds to tap like Van Halen*
Incredible! Already added the song to my Spotify mix and it's getting better each year my music expands. Thanks Paul!
Whoa.. what the heck ? That solo just made my cry and I don't know why. So beautiful guitar solo you made there. Thank you Paul ! :)
This is the stuff that makes me remember why it’s so good to be a guitarist. Not that I could play that of course. Also is that guitar on sale or is it a custom model made for you.
I could be wrong, but iirc that bird on the head means it's private stock- so either custom or a VERY limited run
It is a private stock indeed. Whether it's a limited run or a custom, it's for sure a private stock. Gorgeous video.
I agree, he first talks about solos that don't need to be overly technical and shit, and then just goes fast in a boring way
Totally agree here, I have heard so many delicate licks by Paul Davids, the tapping part was like a "cheveu sur la soupe" as we say in French... This is the first time I don't enjoy Paul Davids playing!
I don’t thing the tapping was the problem, for me its the several changes between different styles that didn’t quite fit the track (drums and guitar ) and techniques that feel as if they were forced into the solo…
But still Paul is probably the best RUclips guitarist😅
I was fine until the wah went on, then naah
@@marrow94 the whole first half had a bunch of John mayerish licks though. I would even say that the first tapping lick could have been inspired by what John plays on igijfl or slow dancing(live)
just listen to this again dancing in the kitchen with my wife and it was amazing guitar solo to the roof…luv💗 everyone involved all superb 💫
Great, great, great and unique !
This goes in the ring for one of the best guitar solos of the 21st century.

Oh man the slides in that solo are so beautiful
Your solo surprised me right away, especially how you dropped into the 4th bar and carried that note - that note - into the 5th. And I could hear that note through out. An unexpected and perfect story; I was swept away. Thank you so much for sharing your love of music. Hopin' is such a beautiful record.
First time here and subbed. I'll following you on YTMusic and YT.
If Jimi, SRV, Van Halen, and Paul Davids all wrote a solo together. This would be it.
1:57 you said "and this is what came out". I loved that phrase and then your solo was inspired and just incredible. My ears thank you.
The wah rolled to treble on the high bend - held just shy of an eternity and resolving into a harmonic; the moments we live for.
Majestic is the word that comes to mind. Great work.
Beautiful solos like that are unicorns in my book. One's that musically touch the soul and make you feel.
I'd love to play like you. You make it look so simple. Your tapping skills are impeccable. I love the sound of your guitar. This solo is very melodious and painless to listen to.
That's one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Way to go PRS. I have a PRS and it's great, but that is an amazing piece of art.
the solo is breathtaking, and the guitar oh my god... is wonderfull.
Paul that is just one of the most colourful and emotion solo's I have heard in a long time, beautiful. :-)
It's been a long week teaching in Covid-land and this video just lifted my spirits to an incredible level. Thank you!
What a beautiful guitar solo. I loved the expression and the phrasing.
Fantastic work Paul..... and that PRS OMG it’s astonishing.
I enjoyed that guitar solo very much. Your tone control, subtlety and dynamics, along with your creativity and variety are just next level.
Your solo is worth watching..the way you said about your solo before you began, its really worth....no speed ..no crazy stuffs ...but pure emotion -exactly what the song demands.
Justified from my viewpoint. 🙏 From India
Fantastic solo. Solos that serve and elevate the song appropriately will always be suppieror no matter how mellow or our insanely technical. Well done!
Man i would kill for that guitar!!! So beautiful. And the solo is just as beautiful. So deserving to play a stunning guitar solo on a stunning guitar.
