I didn't even watch that show, but I saw one of the covers that he did on the show just the other day, it was the "Someone You Love" cover, and I couldn't believe nobody knew it was him! If I would've watched the show in real time, and had I not known it was Chris prior to watching the video, I would've known immediately that it was him! Because Chris Daughtry just has one of those distinctive voices, and you just know it's him as soon as you hear him. Or most people should know! Nobody else sounds like him! And how exactly does that show even work anyway? Do the artists just advance every week till the judging panel guesses correctly? Or what? Can you explain it to me please? Lol... I kind of regret not watching it now too now that I know he was on it!

I agree with Chris Daughtry that this is a great song because from the first time I heard CHRIS ISAAK singing I fell in love with the song. Finding music that is worth listening to nowadays is becoming a rarity and in my country Brazil it is even worse for me, because what I hear most about is FUNK from a capital of the country, but I am not talking about the original funk, the funk that is made here in the country is of the worst kind and if I listen to a little it irritates me and stresses me out a lot.
For these and other reasons I listen to a lot of American music and music from some other countries. In my country there are talented bands and musicians, but the musical rubbish they play on the radio is deplorable.
In songs like this personality of the singer becomes the most important part of perfomance. I think there's a lack of personality in his voice. There's certainly some skill but expressions are shallow, there are no deep emotions in his voice. He's pop singer, with "no hard feelings".

Yeah, Chris Isaak is amazing and I love the original too. One of the best, I dunno, but definitely one of my favorites. If I ever do a cover of this song, I'd stick to the original as closely as possible. I sound pretty much just like him in my lower register, but it'd still be a challenge singing this song as immaculately as he does, but maybe on day, haha.
