Hey thanks Wags for checking it out. Its a good improvement FOV wise over the Reverb G2, but not as wide as the Pimax8k, though tbh the clarity all the way across the lens in the Crystal makes it feel wider. I did feel on the ReverbG2 that the fov was a bit restrictive, for me the Crystal is just right. It feels natural and I dont come away from a DCS flight feeling restricted FOV wise at all.
The problem with display ports is probably due to the fact that the helmet is like 2 displays by itself. So when you already have 3 monitors, adding 2 more with the headset is not supported for sure.
VR is so awesome, I have a older VIVE and have had a blast on it, it's a shame that the market for VR games is so small that most developers won't make games for it.
Did you hear about UEVR? A soon to be released mod by praydog that will make hundreds of UE4/UE5 games to work in VR, so you're going to have way more VR games available that you can ever play.
The problem with not recognizing when having multiple screens is one i had with my Vive Pro and Vive Pro2 this with my 3090 and Yep also with my 4090 now as well. So i think its more a Nvidia problem then a HMD problem. Waiting for my Pimax . Have to say never been able to use my PRO2 to the max settings even with my 4090.... BTW great video !!
This has been so reassuring that I have made the right move from my reverb g2. My main concern was my graphics card, which is an RTX 3080ti, so thank you so much for the reassurance and for your other informative vids on the pimax especially the settings- cheers.

Great preview! I've pre-ordered the Crystal specifically for DCS, and your video has given me a lot of confidence that it will be an excellent upgrade over the G2. Have you tried motion reprojection with the Crystal? I use motion reprojection with the G2 to make the frame times tolerable on a 3090, and I'm hoping the Crystal will have some form of motion reprojection as well. I would love to see you test motion reprojection or whatever similar technology is available from Pimax or through OpenXR Toolkit. Thanks again!

First time I've seen your content. Very informative and straight to the point. I've got an RTX 3090 so was curious how it might go with the Crystal (currently using a Pimax 8KX). Well done, you've earned a new subscriber.
I am very curious to see from a sim racer's perspective how it performs in the racing sims. I hear a lot of people concerned about the FOV being a big negative compared to a lower clarity but much wider FOV 8KX.
@@player1simgear one more thing- VR video is rediculously hard to produce for flatscreen youtube. Your method is as good as any I've seen. I wish somebody would design a program that could 'stitch and adapt' the views of both lenses into a single panoramic and seamless image. Short of that happening, you either use the Steam Mirror for fs2020, or if in OpenXr, you use OBS or some other video editor to crop it to one eye. DCS does a great job of doing this for you. So don't fret or apologize, this video is fine. I sometimes just show both eyes' views on my videos if I'm able to record them at a high enough resolution to make both views clear. It's tricky!

The nVidia cards limit the number of displays you can have active. I have run into this on my Varjo Aero in that I can’t have 3 displays plugged into the card when I want to use the aero.

You got a new subscriber my friend ;) I was thinking about upgrading my Index mainly for DCS since *VR is a one way ticket especially with helos* The Crystal is definitely the best available option for Flight sims ATM is reasonably priced (compared to Aero) with more to offer. However, with your remarks re: battery/comfort, I feel it is worthwhile waiting a bit longer to give *(1)* Pimax more time to improve future iterations *(2)* Valve more time to announce their next entry? Deckard *(3)* NVIDEA more time perhaps to release new GPU/reducing the 4080/4090 price 😅(to allow me to upgrade from 3080->4080/4090)

It seems it is a limitation with the GPU, not the Crystal - basically the nvidia cards cant handle too many monitors/displays. 2x monitors and the Crystal are fine, it's just when you add in a 3rd monitor it doesn't like it as it sees the crystal as 2 displays. It must though be related to the resolution of the Crystal as my card didnt have this problem with the ReverbG2. Stay tuned though, I will reach out to Nvidia and ask them their thoughts too.

Thanks for your first impressions, the battery stiffness is worrisome if it dies during a race and you can't hotswap without letting go of the wheel. Hopefully they will loosen up and keep the charge for hours on.
Yeah I agree. I don't think given the design they will become a lot easier to do, certainly not with one hand mid race. I think we just need to remember to hot swap in a new battery before long races or we will see if the usb c charging option is workable as we get more testing in.

It is def not as snug a fit around the face as the G2, so for a fast head-movement game I think you'd want it pretty tight on, as it does have more weight to it. It will be interesting to see the after-market straps and face gaskets that come out, i think they will improve that a lot.

The scale vr offers is increadible. I find the sense of speed goes away in vr. Landing, carrier ops, helicopters seems as though everything passes by slowly. 2d always feels faster to me.

I don’t see why the batteries need to be on the headset, would it be better to have them mounted at the end of a cable following the usb cable so down on the floor
part of the reason they are on the back of the headset is weight distribution. So even if you had them mounted at the end of a cable, you'd want something in place for weight balance so it doesn't feel so front heavy.
I had the G2 and ran with with my old 1080ti and it ran every game just fine besides sims which i know req's more power but i dont sim so.. meh.. i got the 3080ti also now and i would be tumb if the same games run the same or a little better.
I am very curious how this performs with a 4090. I recently upgraded to a new computer, leaving a 3070 game rig to a fully loaded 4090 one. My Reverb cable recently failed and a replacement is on the way. However, I have been wondering if it might be a hint to upgrade to a newer headset too
I bought a pimax Crystal Light I have a 5800 x3d and a 4080 super when I first bought my Crystal Light I had a 4070 super which I must warn people is definitely not enough for VR at least not to get decent benefits out of the Timex Crystal Light so be warned
@@player1simgear People complaining about having resin lenses, but doesn't that mean you just got free extra lenses? And the resin ones are much lighter ones, glass is quite heavy. So it might not be a bad thing to have spare set of resin lenses.

@@player1simgear Glass will improve it, glass is always superior to any resin lens.. glass has higher refractive index, that means less chromatic aberrations. And even if you don't see chromatic aberrations, they are always there.. the better the R/G/B light are focused at one spot, the sharper the image will be. They really went all in this by producing glass lenses, no other company has done this. People don't really get the expense and difficulty of producing glass lenses. Resin lenses are made from UV curable resins.. a machine can just pump them out. They cost next to nothing. Glass needs to be grind down to a lens from a block of optical grade glass that first need to be manufactured to tight tolerances.
When one has a vr headset, one must play Half Life Alyx. Have you done so? If so, what is it like with the Crystal. I know you’re a sim guy but Alyx must be experienced by all who have vr.

Thanks Zaelu, no we arent paid by Pimax or anything like that, we purchased our unit ourselves. The Crystal is big, don't get me wrong, but when seated in a sim it doesn't feel big when wearing it if that makes sense? Of course if you have a smaller head than I do that may be different for you! Overall though it's a very well balanced headset.
@@player1simgear After going from Rift to Quest 2 and then to Pico4 and always feeling the need for lighter and more ergonomically headset I am baffled to see people still giving some credit to this company called Pimax. I am no Chinese tech hater. On the contrary, I love Pico4 but Pimax looks really bad to me and if this is th future of VR... it's bad. The easiest tell tale to me is the shape of the headset... not necessarily the size. No reviewer of them ever talked about the crazy stupid light path it has. Look from top to bottom. Imagine you actually have a screen pixel at the most lateral extremity of the headset. Imagine the light path of that pixel to your eyes. Do you imagine the geometric distortion and chromatic aberration it suffers especially since it has only a cheap lens in the way and not some 16 pieces like a DSLR? And why? Cristal is not even bragging anymore with the silly 220° FOV. It doesn't even have the bad wide lenses anymore. And we can tell for sure there are no pixels (useful at least) on the edges of the headset. Then why this stupid hammer shark shape? Did they ever seen the Beyond headset? Didn't they felt a little ashamed? After all this years Pimhoax for me looks nothing but an on going hype scam and reviewers keep pushing it by half clear statements. Maybe is heavy, maybe it has distortions... maybe its incomplete and needs extra hardware and more money... You should stop pushing up hill failed tech. let it die.
I hope they will be made publicly available soon. I also hope that AMD fixes their drivers because pimax is bricked until they are fixed. I'm forced to use a 4090 and the 7900xtx is sitting in the box on the closet.
Thanks yeah it's a shame, good to know though what the cause it, its an easy enough work around as fortunately the back of my pc is easy to get to. I'll look into some DP or HDMI switch options for people who have less accessible ports!
Screen grab is 100% useless for capturing the clarity, it's no different than a 2D monitor output. There is no way to show the clarity, VR has to be experienced
Good review. I am wondering if Apple's killer product will be Steam compatible? I dont see why it couldn't. Even if it takes third-party software to do it.
very disappointed after reading the title of this video that says DCS World reverbG2 comparison I expected to see FPS comparisons in DCS because I have a 3080 as well and wanted to see if its worth it for me to see if i will get good enough FPS to play DCS well. You should change the title.

Most GPU's can handle 4 monitors. So, adding the Crystal to your system is causing a total of 5 monitors. So yeah, no Bueno

Will do! I regularly do 2-4 hour missions and sim races with it, and it's awesome - I forget I am wearing it very quickly.

Great review! How does the crystal feel weight and movement wise compared to the G2 in games that you move your head around somewhat fast paced?

None at all actually, which was surprising. Though a lot of that is CPU and RAM dependent.

Didn't they felt a little ashamed? After all this years Pimhoax for me looks nothing but an on going hype scam and reviewers keep pushing it by half clear statements. Maybe is heavy, maybe it has distortions... maybe its incomplete and needs extra hardware and more money...

I hope they will be made publicly available soon. I also hope that AMD fixes their drivers because pimax is bricked until they are fixed. I'm forced to use a 4090 and the 7900xtx is sitting in the box on the closet.

Nvidia display driver issue. Pimax wont be able to fix this. Nvidia has to so goodluck with that anytime soon.
Thanks yeah it's a shame, good to know though what the cause it, its an easy enough work around as fortunately the back of my pc is easy to get to. I'll look into some DP or HDMI switch options for people who have less accessible ports!
Screen grab is 100% useless for capturing the clarity, it's no different than a 2D monitor output. There is no way to show the clarity, VR has to be experienced
Yep for sure, it is helpful for showing the settings used, but otherwise I agree, VR is 100% about the experience.
Good review. I am wondering if Apple's killer product will be Steam compatible? I dont see why it couldn't. Even if it takes third-party software to do it.

very disappointed after reading the title of this video that says DCS World reverbG2 comparison I expected to see FPS comparisons in DCS because I have a 3080 as well and wanted to see if its worth it for me to see if i will get good enough FPS to play DCS well. You should change the title.
