Your positive comments are my reward for knowing that you are learning and enjoying the world of Maya. Thanks for taking a moment to let me know that I have helped you along that path. All the best to you!
I've watched several of your tutorials to date and they have been excellent reference for a logo project that I have been working towards completing. Your presentation style (voice, pace, and mention of details) make these far from boring. :) Thank you for taking the time you do in preparing these tutorials; truly an inspiration for those like me who have just started in the world of 3D.
Hi dear stuart! about 2 years use to learning via your videos. can't really say how love your behaviour! your videos and your character. wish you all the best, man.
Remember, you can always create a simple point light and set the falloff to linear and place it in front of the screen, then use the light linker to specify which objects in the scene are illuminated by the point light (ground plane furniture etc,) and just don't let it illuminate the actual TV screen plane. You can then add a slight amount of glow to the actual TV screen plane and it will nicely effect the actual TV parts in the general vicinity. Just an idea. Hope that helps!
Thanks so much for answering that question. I have also encountered the problem and I have used that method to fix the glitch....I think I have also changed the environment color of the camera to white to get rid of the problem on some occasions, but it seems to pop up without any regularity to I will try and keep this in mind and add notes to the tutorial as I isolate the conditions. Thanks again!
Yes, that can be an issue at times and that's a really good bit of info supplied by inpyo3d. This can be problematic at times and I would opt to isolate the mia_objects and place them into their own layer groups or try and keep this issue in mind, and.....there's a lot more sniggles along the way by trying to break down everything into layers and/or passes. Thanks for the follow up and tenacity!
Well, the easiest way is to first open the UV texture editor, select the plane in the main viewport, you will notice the edges of the plane do not quite fit the image, you should go to the Create UV's menu and choose automatic mapping, then in the UV texture editor, select the UV shell tool and the click on the UV shell in the editor window, you can then scale the edges to fit the image, and you will see it update in the viewport as you manipulate the scale of the UV shell. Hope that helps.
Have you tried attaching the image sequence to the TV screen. Try this, create a plane and position like a tv screen would be and place a sphere in front of it. If you use Mental Ray, enable FG and perhaps GI as well. Then create a simple lambert and set to white, then raise the incandescence value to white and render. You should see a nice glow. Or you can attach image sequence and add a slight bit of glow. Simple yet effective. Use other lights to create flickering effects perhaps.
Ahh yes, well, there's probably a number of ways to achieve the effect but it could get a little involved if you plan to use the glowing screen to cast the light into the room as if it were the only light source. I'll ponder some ways and send along an update soon......stay tuned, it sounds like a simple task but there's some special stuff to consider.....good question....I must ponder.......
Well, a spotlight with a random type gobo pattern can make things look a little more interesting but difficult to control to specifically light "certain areas" of a given object...it's more like an abstract lighting thing where you just need the overall solid lighting to be broken up a bit more so yes, give it a try and experiment and send along the results when you are done...Cool. Hope that helps.
Yes, in the future I plan on covering rendering "passes" which are very different than render "layers". This can get quite complicated and I'm trying to find a good way to present the material in a tutorial that is short and concise. As well, there's a little more to cover with render "layers" so stay tuned as always....OK?
Hi, this is a very common problem but can be fixed in After Effects. When you import the file in, there should be box tht pops out, choose premultiplied, and since u're having white outline, pick white colour and there you go. If the box did not pops out, u can right click on the file in AE > interpret footage... =)
Thank you for posting these videos, they are great! I do have one question, and I cant seem to figure it out. When I render my AOCC, my camera is inside a fully enclosed room, the interior has a bunch of objects. The render comes out completely black, but if I zoom out, past the exterior wall, I can see it renders the outside of the box just fine. Is there a setting I missed to get the rays to pass through the outside walls of the box?
Thanks so much! I just used the simple default beauty pass to export the animated sequence, however, render passes could be helpful (transparency pass) during compositing but sometimes it's just best to keep it simple and not get all "Hollywood"on it....All the best.
Amazing tutorial! Only problem is if I try to use mia_materials the color layer comes out black. the ambient light is definitely on the layer, and it works perfectly if i use a lambert phong blinn or other maya shader.
Again some more light in the dark for me. Thanks a lot Stuart. I am working currently on a fish tank simulation with a 3D Container, only some tests because I am interested in this field of Maya but I don't get a satisfying result for the liquid behavior, even by using preferences. Can you help with an appropriate tutorial as well?
Well, I'm trying to keep this channel limited to just Maya at the moment, but feel free to send along your email through a personal message and I will send it along to you as well...OK? All the best to you!
Actually, I may have found it by adjusting the Max distance value, and the spread value. The render still looks a little funky, by I will keep adjusting.
Can you make a tutorial on how to do render passes in Maya? You know, Reflection, refraction (etc.) passes and then show us how to properly composite them in After Effects. If you already have this tutorial, can you send me a link to it, please?
Hello, how do you insert jpeg image onto planes and make them fit perfectly like the paintings in your scene? I can get the jpeg to display on a plane and render but its not scaled to the fit the plane.
Stuart, I am trying to render some high resolution files out of maya 2013 using mental ray (4800x12000) and I am having a heck of a time with crashes and invalid frame buffer errors. Can you recommend a troubleshooting process to deal with that?
If you are good with Blend Shapes, could you maybe create a tutorial about how to give characters, specifically Minecraft ones, pointy elbows, like Bootstrap Buckaroo, Slamacow, and Captain Sparklez do in their animations? It would be a huge help and I will credit you in any animations I use the technique in. Please and thank you for the awesome tutorials!
I need to clarify with you about the size of the renders. Is that 4,800 x 12,000 or (1,200)?? Either way it sounds like a "strange size" and more info about the output specs is needed to isolate potential snafu's. More info!!! Send a personal message via direct message through my channel if there's not enough room to elaborate in the comment section...OK?
Hello Mr. Cod! I don't have enough space in the comments section to elaborate all the details but if you send me a personal message through You-Tube and send along your email address, I will create a quick video tutorial for you so that you can get the max quality out of Camtasia. The output settings frustrated me as well in the beginning. So, let me know OK?

Mr Christensen, Thank you very much for this truly informative and well - done tutorial. I hope you continue to share your knowledge.

Hey Stuart, you made that very easy to follow... Thanks man, loved it...
Yay been waiting for another of your tutorials. Thanks :)
Thanks for all the fantastic videos. Please keep more coming ...!!!

Came through once again! Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for your insight. Have a wonderful Christmas and Great 2013

Well, that would actually be an awesome video, any chance to make that public? Would love to know as well.
And thanks a bunch for this upload!
Thank you very much! This was very handy!
Awesome!!! I really lover it!! and could you post a tutorial showing how to model this scene? please?

Excellent channel Stuart! Are there any special steps for rendering the fog from your car fog tutorial? Thanks so much.

deepfriedectoplasm Brilliant. Thank you!
very useful tutoral, Thank you.

Thanks dude helped me loads
If you never figured it out I believe if you adjust the max distance value it will help with interior AO
Thanks for your answer!
Great :) thank for the tutorial
Cool tutorial, only I have some problems with rendering. A white line appears around my objects every time I render. Can't find out the problem.

why do you choose some render pass layers and not others? How do you decide which ones to choose from a list of about 50?

please send me the camtasia settings too, and i m loving your channel man, i just happened to stumple upon
Hi Stuart when I used Material mia_material_x render color make it black but when i used lamber or blinn showed me color

Should the ambient light be in the master layer its affecting my lighting?
Yes, of course, thank you :))
Please upload those pictures that you used at background.. Please
