They've already added a chance to find cargo pods at derelict freighter space encounters on the experimental branch. That makes 12 encounters that give resources of some kind, 3 NPC encounters (repair, trader and special offer), 2 long-range travel encounters, 1 encounter that was added for a mission, and 6 more lore related ones, one of which might actually be supposed to give us something, but is broken on live. That's really not a whole lot of 'encounters that do or give nothing'. That said, more interaction and depth would always be good, but I think this is already much bigger than people seem to realize.

    Hello LZ.
Cool review, totally agree buddy, was a great update, needs a tad of polish and reduction of bugs. But otherwise pretty cool... Like the additions in space, execution is questionable and random, still interesting and welcome though.
The timer though... we have timers on Frigate missions... and heck its an egg, and egg timers done pretty well...lol
I didn't mind the wait my self.

If you hadn't cheated with your living hybrid (timestamp 3:47), you would have gotten a double stats on it, except shields. There is a trick to that. It takes time 6-8-12h sometimes. But it is worth it!!!
Max stats for living ships are 305.x damage, 180.x shields, 163.x Hyperdrive, 232.x Maneuverability. That makes the cheat only good for aesthetics.
On the other hand, you risk it if they fix it.

I play primarily on PS4, but I use PC to capture footage because it's just easier. I used a sace editor on creative just so it was easier to get the ship for footage. I wasnt about to go through a other 4 full days of waiting lol

Amazing review. Thank you so much.
I’m very happy with what Hello Games has made with the game. Its for sure the first time in history any game give so many free updates without subscription or microtransactions.
I still remember my first experience with it. I did liked the game from start but it was pretty flawed. Then the silence, then foundation. And from there to now a totally different experience.
Thinking like that makes me happy I paid for this game.
I paid $60 for Watch Dogs and the way Ubisoft fixed the game was by selling me another game for $60 more two years after.
They pretty much abandoned the game and my $60 went to the thrash.
It feels good not to be abandoned. Even when we were so harsh at the beginning against that small team.
I do believe the game is not perfect. But it’s an amazing relaxing experience. A game where hardcore gamers, collectors, role players,, wanderers, casuals, milestones hunters, can all find a piece to enjoy. A universe all gamers can share.
I look forward for more from HG in 2020.

Welcome back, we missed you. Great points in the video, can't disagree with anything you said. We can only hope they add more with the encounters in space. I did get close enough to a freighter to notice it does have the destructible doors like the planet side ones. So may be soon we will be able to explore them.

    Hey LZ.
Great review mate. Very fair. I thoroughly enjoy the update and with Synthesis, these two updates restored my faith in game. I have been dying for a space update for ages, and in some ways we got a sort of space update, though I feel there is much more HG can add to that aspect of the game.
I will say that terrain generation has been improved and thankfully not causing me to be stuck underground, or my ship taking nearly 5 minutes to land because the terrain taking so slow to load in. Pop-In could still do with improvements, but I guess it is what it is. Performance improvements are not really noticeable for me (Base PS4), and is actually jerky in the menus now and there is a noticeable longer pause when you exit you ship.
Personally, the new anomalies in space are such a welcomed addition, but also a tad anticlimactic. As of now, there is very little you can do with "Some" of them, and some are mere eye candy. Some you cna get tech/blueprints and resources, but that's it! The freighters I believe will be getting loot (Experimental update) so that's something, but I feel these features need expansion, of which I hope HG do add to it.
Alot like of HG's updates, certain features get very basic functionality and become mundane after a short amount of time. Core features that have been improved on also need the same attention for things like the new anomalies in space. MZK made a good point quite some time ago about HG adding "Fluff" that does not have much substance, this can be said for some things in this update.
Space needs more, that's for sure and am positive HG have more plans for space this year. It needs it.
Anyway, its a great update and hope HG stick to the more regular updates as bugs are certainly less noticeable. I give Living Ship update a solid 8/10.

I agree with everything you said... I actually just emailed hello games today. I have remained quiet for too long. I still haven't seen or heard many people mention what I know for a fact would bring NMS together and make it make more sense.. They need to take a hard look at mmo rpg elements and start designing the game around that.. Places to explore and conquer with great reward.. Expand on all the foundations but we need a more radical gameplay loop put in. We need like co-op missions where we go journey inside a planet in caves with dangerous creatures and even a so called boss fight.. With great loot.. Loot being tech you can only get from that planet.. This game is basically set up to be a online mmo game with rpg elements. They just need to commit to that and this game would blow up. It's a cool game and a great concept but we desperately need a gameplay loop that leads us to asking players to join to defeat certain events either in space or on land.. We need a reason to live in this universe other than finding home and building bases.. Also PVP vould be implemented and also add way more immersion and excitement. They need to take a hard look at what I am saying and realize that is the future of this game.

I disagree wholeheartedly. If this game started making it's foundation in multiplayer, then it's life is limited. Once the servers inevitably go down, the game will die and most of its features gone, making it a shell of what it was. It needs to keep it's foundation in single player, to make it so that if stands the test of time and you can enjoy it by yourself.

    • @TyleriumGaming

@@dangerousish7837 I have news for you.. The game is already online.. They already made the commitment. Games nowadays are more like live services than they are single player.. Also what you say doesn't make sense.. If they don't service the game and keep treating it like an ip the game would die and become a relic. Everyones game would remain uninstalled as an old nostalgic trip. For the game to be successful they need to expand multiplayer and world building. Also you can always play this game offline.. Hello Games has already started focusing on online elements now they just need to expand on it. The single player minded people don't understand that you are part of a very small minority of the player base..

I both agree and disagree. I quite like the slow steady nature of the game. I play this game more for a relaxing experience with good visual appeal and a decent story. But I also love PVP gameplay and would love the opportunity to dogfight in space with my friends or have PVP vehicles or a need for defenses games within NMS. This could be integrated by adding PVP Solar systems, that way it wouldnt effect how the regular game is played and it's an option to go experience the PVP game

    • @TyleriumGaming
      @TyleriumGaming 4 года назад +1

@@DuckSookma Better yet I was thinking about it and what if people could just warp to other players or opt in to pvp by warping in to players. Hello games could just make it an option for players to opt in or out of pvp warp. Think of the pirates that try bartering with you..? You could just make the AI players. It would work well.

Much of what Hello Games does, like you suspect, is introduce stuff to build on. Something as menial as having more than one MT came in handy for this update, because of the new tech we needed to install for the living ship blueprints, so no need to scrap stuff you like on your primary MT if you get yourself a backup.
Not much of an issue with the timers to allow parts to grow either, made sense and it gave you something to expect the next day, it also helped with having multiple saves to juggle. I'm on PS4 but didn't feel the need to advance the clock or whatever to cheat the system. I rather savor the storyline. I will say however that in one of my saves the clock failed to roll over once, so the next day... I still had to wait until the next day, but that was the only gripe I had.
I actually tried to stay off YT to avoid spoilers during the part growing process because everybody and their mama had a guide telling you how to do what the game told you anyway.

But there is no story either. Lol. The best part is going through the portal. And that was already there. Lol.
There is almost no story, then when you get the ship, your normal S Class ships will be so much better than the living ship anyway. It was a huge let down.

This video edit was made 6 months ago and im still falling through the ground. Having sound issues. Textures take forever to load and buildings sometimes hover or stay invisible for a long time. Still struggle landing. The ground and textures grow through my base and buildings every time i log off and log back on.

Crying about the 24 hour wait is ridiculous to me. I think it worked great, it meant all players weren’t on the same time schedule and meant that we all hatched our ships around the same time (unless you cheated...)

Spot on, I had to reset the living ship mission three times to get the ship and like most I had no interest in waiting for the parts to grow and just change the time and date setting. Wait several days for the ship no thanks lol

You do realize why they make you wait a period of time before seeing your ship progress, right? If your ship progressed over night, how quickly would a player lose interest once their ship was fully grown?
The idea is to maintain their player base. If Blizzard just gave players max level and epic gear over night, do you really think they would continue to have the player base that they do? I can't believe that the bit of waiting time is a problem.
There are other things to do in the game besides watch your ship grow.

The living ship is so dumb. Why go through all that to get that ship, when you can fully upgrade a normal S class ship and it will be so much better, with so much more storage space?
You can even buy upgrades like normal with normal ships, you cant do that with the living ship. It's a decent concept, but it just falls flat for me.
I even traded in my living ship for a normal ship. And upgraded the normal ship to S Class and upgraded all its storage to max in less than 5mins.

The living starship quest is plain terrible:
    - get to the coordinates
    - get materials
    - wait 24+ hours
    - repeat
    4 fucking times!
When you finally hatch the egg, it gives you again a place to go, no particular events , animations of sort! Beyond that, the random space encounters are extremely limited in interactivity, they are just a mere aesthetic feature, almost without any depth.
I consider myself a veteran of NMS, since I played it from the terrible 2016 start, and I noticed that even if HG add always new awesome features, they keep using the very same old game play mechanics without adding any depth... and sometimes they even manage to screw up something that was working well: for example I found that a HUGE base I had put hours and ours of work into completely out of energy, without the possibility to move it to a new place with an powerful energy source... a part the fact that I haven't figured out how to give energy to big building complexes!
I really love NMS, but if HG go on keeping this rather dull and unimaginative way of adding new features, well, I'm off!
