Em, thanks for demonstrating this. I evangelize this ruler for all sort of things (to include what you demonstrated). I use it to (1) pre miter my binding strips which makes it easier for me to get; (2) Cut 2.25 and 1.75 HST's for paper pieced 3.5" economy blocks (for the outer/inner triangles respectively) and 2.5" HST's for 6" Kaleidoscope corners. I use my production method below: Here's a speed and production tip: You can also save fabric by cutting your replacement corners from a strip v. a square (unless you want teeny weeny HST's). If you need a 2.5" square for a corner (and need lots), cut a 2.5" strip, and then subcut it into 3.25" rectangles. That way you set your ruler once, and have two pairs. The rectangle width is the strip width plus .75 to account for the 3/8 flat top that you need for both cuts. This is a MVP tool.
Thanks for this Em(ily)!
What a nice shortcut! Thanks Emily!
Hi Emily, thank you, i just purchased this ruler for all the next scrappy quilts I'll be making.
Give it a try for pre-mitering your binding strips. You will love this ruler.
