Miserable person here.....I have defend us. Comments that are full of praise and worship, and endless thanks you are great, I tune in and you make my day, and all that nausea....is well...nauseating. Miserable people, like myself...add a mix of views, usually constructive reflections and opinions, and making people realize just how dorky they really are. Hey...I used to be a "certified" motorcycle instructor here in Canada...under the "Canada Safety Council" I couldn't take it anymore, being surrounded by bullshitters and motorcycle myth stories coming out their asses with almost every word. Much like a modern ADV You Tube channel. Endless crashes and drops and laughing them off as "part of the adventure", is purely absurd (out of reality). I ask...is the helicopter rescue pilot having to fly out again to save a broken legged beginner rider having his "adventure"..as well? Personal growth? what is this a self help book you are promoting. We all need to face the fact that happy oblivious people, and miserable..yet grounded people...all contribute.....We are the counter weights that keep some in check....like...keep you hands on the bars when talking to the "internet"...or you might crash....again.....and again....and again...over and over and over...and eventually those crash bars will crush your leg...in two pieces....it happens...call it misery...or call it what it is....motorcycles are dangerous...ya...really dangerous.....ADV riders are showing the world this on you tube more than any other segment in motorcycling history.
Dude, not sure why your numbers are down, but what attracted me to your channel in the first place was the name " dork in the road" because even though I've been riding motorcycles on and off for 50+ years, I haver never considered myself an " expert" , but more of an everyday dork like you, so your channel felt like a relatable, fun, safe place to be. Just continue to be you!
Think the numbers are due to repetition. Video 1: New bike, great, wonderful, unicorn, love, hate. Mr. Puff Puff. Next Video 2: Training, awesome, great, learned a lot, instructors wonderful, Food great. Mr. Puff Puff. BDR Video 3: Riding, technical, ooo, ahhhh. wow, camp, Mr. Puff Puff. Next video 4: Rinse and repeat starting with Video 1. Mr. Puff Puff goes you numbers. And don't forget to be excellent to my numbers.
50 years on 2 wheels here. Your channel is great and the humor alone is cool. Who gives a shit if you change your mind on riding glasses and now get a little from them. Not me… just keep on keepin on. Life’s a garden dig it👈 Joe dirt ref. Haha. Merry Christmas or whatever you do.
Numbers are also down probably because of time of year. Riding season is mostly done in NA, with him being American, I’m sure that’s his largest segment of his viewer base.
Mate , it doesn’t matter what the subject or who you are , it’s about respect ! If someone doesn’t show respect then they can F@ck off simple as that take care mate 👍🏼
Dude, you have nothing to apologize about. You and Ian are the best offroad motorcycle channels: You've both ridden everything, tried every product, and you're thorough, meticulous, and honest with your reviews and experiences. Your credibility, integrity, and knowledge, are beyond question. Your content is good for everyone, both budget and high end, and you're running a business, of course you have to do ads, most reasonable people would realize that. Keep doing what you're doing, and doing what you want, it's your channel, and thanks for the content!
Ok, I have a lot to say but I'm going to try and be brief. I have been watching your content from almost the beginning. I didn't own a bike at the time and I'm not an ADV rider. I watch your channel because I like your presentation and enjoy the entertainment. Next, the Ads, those folks complaining about your sponsors. I challenge them to find a monetized channel that doesn't have sponsorship. You have to feed little Dork and pay the bills. I think you do it the right way with the chapter thing. You are one of the most down to earth RUclipsrs that I watch. Keep up the good work. I currently have 3 bikes and none of they will see as much as a gravel road. I ride 10k-12k miles a year. You keep up the good work we will follow.
Hey Dork, 74 years old here and have watched you from the beginning. As a meager RUclipsr myself, I understand how incredibly time intensive it is to produce this free content. Though I do it for fun and as a creative outlet, it is work. I can't imagine the pressure of full time and staying relevant in the small niche of ADV motorcycling. You have incredible presence. Stay encouraged, and Ill stay watching. Merry Christmas!
Dork! This is hubby to now retired Officer Megs Rocks. Woop woop! We havn’t been as die hard watchers lately but we still love to tune into one that tickles our fancy and we happen to actually have a spare moment to sit on the couch. I’m sure you’re overwhelmed with the comments on this video but just wanted to say we still love ya and keep on livin the dream! A bad day makin content is still better than a good day in front of 35 angry hormonal small humans 😂
Your comment, "When I stop to think something sucks, or is boring or hard or I don't feel like editing right now, I just think, you could be in a classroom right now in front of 34 angry freshman and I really appreciate what it is I get to do." Ben, with two boys (who were freshman not too long ago) in high school, this has got to be one of the most sobering thoughts out there. LOL! 🙂 My two boys and I love watching your channel, especially during the winter time when we don't do a lot of dirt bike riding. Keep up the great work man!
You are one of 5 people that i get new content alerts. You are a relatabe, mid 40s moto rider from the PNW that is entertaining to watch. The places you go are inspiration to get out and have fun on 2 wheels. I wish inlived closer to dirt trails. As always, keep up the good work. I hope you get to keep doing this as long as you can. Thanks Dork!
I think I bring this up every now and then but to me your magic sauce is that you're a professional educator and that unique perspective shines through in all your videos. To me that would be a great place to reset to when in doubt on where to take the channel. And THANK YOU for not being a cringy moto-jitsu "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG" ride-bro clone, but coming from a perspective of self-growth and learning opportunity as well.
Like many of the commenters above, I had stopped riding motorcycles at a young age. I am definitely one of the folks that you have inspired. I now have a dual sport and an adventure bike and I have been moto camping now for a couple of years. I would have never had the courage to attempt a BDR, but did my first one 2 years ago. Thank you. I was supposed to be part of the training class in British Columbia, but I got injured pretty badly the week before the trip started. I was disappointed about missing the adventure and also disappointed that I didn't get to meet you and tell you in person how much I appreciate what you're doing. When my kids were little they would get hyped and excited when they would hear the theme song for The Muppet show. It would make their day. As a 63-year-old guy, I have to admit, every time I hear your theme music it brings a little smile to my face. Thank you for doing what you do.
Ben, I think Crittermoto hit the nail on the head. There is soo much work that goes into a 15 minute video and until you do it you have no idea! I watch you because you are the most down to earth Motorcycle channel out there and the guy I would like to hang out and ride with. I have seen your skills get better in the process and if it takes you showing people how you did that that's great! There are probably cheaper skill classes but you are showing what is out there and that's good. I'm In Cali so maybe some day we see each other on the trail!
Dork - don't get caught up in that stuff. Control what you can - I delete the negatives on my channel and the stuff I can't control I don't think about, nor actively go looking for negative. Never respond or try to rationally debate with them. If you were on the street and someone randomly walked up to you and started insulting you, that would be viewed as abnormal behaviour. The internet is no different. Shine a light on the positive and don't give darkness light. Merry Xmas. Keep doing what you're doing.
Nothing wrong with debating a negative comment. Only reading and responding to positive comments becomes very revealing. Nothing more nauseating then scanning a comment stream of all praise and worship and thanks. You know the good comments have all been deleted....lame.
Ben, as someone who has been here for a few years, and watched you struggle with restructuring the channel... I totally understand and appreciate it. I can't think of any dork video I haven't enjoyed in some capacity. Also, I understand that this is your job and that you have to mix it up with bikes and experiences. Keep it up big guy.
Your passion for dual sport gave me enough of an itch to buy a CRF300L. I'm very blessed to have your guidance and experience packaged in your videos. Genuinely thank you for being you❤
Your content is great, Ben. Do what you need to in order to financially make it possible to continue and create the life you want. Any trips and products that are expensive for most of us shouldn't stop you from experiencing it and sharing. Enjoy it. I'll never afford Mosko bags but great to hear how other products compare for example. Ive never went moto camping. Still watch all your videos. Have fun doing it and keep the videos coming. Thank you for giving me 20-40 minutes of entertainment weekly.
If I may just add my voice to those who support you? A recent Transalp owner here (among other bikes) in rural South Australia, and I was impressed by the way you were initially very critical of this model, but then subsequently bought one, and acknowledged that they are a better machine than you had first thought. Not much in the way of such self-deprecating admissions in this place, and your conversations on this topic were very insightful. Your ability to allow yourself to be seen being occasionally foolish is also refreshing. You come across as intelligent, experienced, and humble, so I just thought to add my support. Plus your conversations with the lovely Grace give us a 'more-rounded' view of you in that context. So keep doing what you do - I can assure you the videos are appreciated. Different, and interesting, with a strong sense of honesty.
Hi Ben, I met you briefly a few years ago during a Kawi demo ride event at Power. I've watched and have been a subscriber since before that time. You're genuine, approachable, and down to earth. I value your insights and information and the way that you present it. Much of what we watch on YT is fantasy. That's why we watch it. To all the naysayers, please allow me to pontificate: "Judge not, lest ye be judged". Keep up the good work. We'll be watching.
I like Dork in the Road because it's a channel about a regular guy running his RUclips channel the way he wants to run it. I feel like if I made a some different life decisions, that could very well be me. Imagine if I had to go on long motorcycle adventures for work. I'd definitely go for it. I appreciate the fact that all the sponsors relate to the content. I feel like everything here is real, honest, and humble. The sentiment "why would you pay that much for these... oh, that's why" fits in perfectly with "why would you buy a KTM... oh, that's why." I don't think I would be hearing about Flying Eyes if they sucked. Ben, keep up the good work. Thank you for your content and your honesty. Also, thank you for the discount code I used to get my Giant Loop Round the World Panniers a while back.
Ben you have nothing to worry about because you just make youtube that much more fun, especially if others are like me and love the type of content that you upload on your channel. Ben keep doing what you do best being you.
Stay golden, Pony Boy. 😉 Thank you for the discussion and videos. The “normal guy” stuff is a lot more interesting to me, but I also understand that money makes it happen. Happy Holidays!
Ben: I’ve been following you and your channel for years. Thank you for all of your effort. You and Ian are two of my favorite RUclipsrs. I am so glad to see your hard work translating into success!
Ben, I really enjoy seeing the evolution of the channel. The trips and training videos help to show us what to expect if we were thinking about taking a BRD trip or a training trip, please continue to do this type of content. I'm not fussed about the sponsored videos, fully understand the amount of time and energy that goes into making content and believe that compensation is deserved. Keep up the great work!
RUclips is negative income stream. I don’t think most folks realize just how much time and effort goes into it and how much out of pocket creators are for many many years trying to build a channel. I’ve always told you how happy I am for you and you living your dream. I’ve cheered at your successes and have enjoyed watching the growth. I am mad at you tho for inspiring me to try and do it for myself 😛👍🏻(joking) Thanks for video Ben, I’m still here watching and supporting 👊🏽
You Tube ,as an income stream...is the same as being a Pizza delivery driver..with your own car. Its all good until you have to invest in your machines..to keep it all going.
Ive always liked how you come across on videos. You seem like a genuinely good guy. I’ve watched videos of yours ranging from basic camping trips to your off-road training and BDR’s and I’ve enjoyed them all in one way or another. It’s inevitable that some people prefer a specific type of video but I think you do a good job in terms of variety. For what it’s worth, I really enjoy your BDR videos. I’ll likely never get to ride those, being a Brit living in the Philippines but I can enjoy them vicariously through yours and Ian’s videos. All the best to you and your channel in 2025.
This is one of most entertaining channels on RUclips. You keep a quick pace and your comments are relevant as well as funny. Just keep on doing what you do.
Ben, keep rockin'! I won't say every single video is compelling to me, but the premise of your channel is, as is your relatability to many riders like me, who are just dorking around in their own right. Can't wait to see the KLX 300 on the channel.
I definitely appreciate you leaning into what makes your channel stronger, and more relatable, especially to motorcycle newcomers. You do a good job in demystifying, and making stuff like moto camping, and thumping around the woods on a bike seem less intimidating. It is also cool to see what is out there just over my normal motorcycling horizon, and I do not mind the "higher level content". My moments of frustration at mid-roll ads are less directed at your channel specifically, than at the same small group of companies that seemed to flood every motorcycle content creator all at once. Flying Eyes and, and Insta360 totally dropped an advertising bomb on the motorcycle RUclips world. It got real old, real fast. When you are trying to have an enjoyable evening of watching motorcycle content, and get hit with several ads for the same product, it is easy to start throwing the shill label around. I can understand they might have a good product, however it costs 10 times what I would normally pay for a pair of sunglasses. I am the sort of person that would rather have 10 pairs of slightly inferior sunglasses. Preferably Z87+ rated for impact. I understand however that these ads are part of you being able to pay your bills, and still bring us excellent content. Please keep being you. Keep up the good work.
Was in a bike wreck not too long ago and while recovering came across your vids as well as Ian’s. Y’all have gotten me into an area of bike I never thought of before (I’m a sport bike guy). I think my first ADV will be the Aprilia. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK MY MAN, hope to see you on the trail one day.
Ben this was a great video. Thanks for explaining your thought process ( even though not necessary) if these negative reviews don’t understand how RUclips works then shame on them. As for the changes in your channel, it has been fun watching the growth and change. I do miss your campfire comedy and your live feeds especially the after party. Keep doing what you do. Watching your videos does motivate me to get off my butt and go ride. I trust your reviews so much I bought my Transalp based on yours and Ian’s reviews. Keep it going
Wow, @kevinsterner really said it well. And I agree fully. And heck yeah, I’d be riding every new bike that came my way if I was in your position. I believe you’ve reached a new level now, where you have enough real world experience that you can speak about gear and motorcycles with credibility. I’ll keep watching if you’ll keep producing!
Ben I’m glad you addressed the “Flying Eyes” paradox. You make great content both high and low budget opinions on gear and adventures. Your video on Tusk, GL, and MM saddlebags was top notch. Doing the low, medium, and high end on gear and trips is something I would enjoy more of. Keep going and I do enjoy your content.
As a chef owner of a small restaurant for the past 18 years, I definitely (and unfortunately) relate to the random review and critics that makes you scratch your head with a "WTF". Actually just today there was one 😮... For the most part, it's very positive, and surely the same for your channel. But there's always one or two that generate a WTF moment. Also, like you I read all the reviews and try to figure out if we did something wrong or if there's communication/perspective issue. It's very helpful for a small business.... But, yeah. Sometimes...,🤔🤷. Keep up the good work. Your channel is informative and fun. What made me subscribed and makes me want to watch your videos is the fact that you seem like a genuine average guy who's having fun and provide experience via videos. That's great. Thank you.
LOL my friend owns and runs a cafe, the comments and reviews he gets are insane. eg. "they didn't even warm the croissant" when getting a fresh croissant and coffee. He is an absolute artisan baker and his fresh croissants are superb. Some people just want a whinge.
It's great that you can show the big opportunities. I might not be able to relate to every one you can do, but you show what is accessible for me. I might go on one big trip every few years, but you allow me to picture myself there.
Hey Ben, I appreciate you and your friendship! You took me along with you when you didn’t even really know me, answered my questions and were patient with me when I was trying to figure out how to be slightly competent at RUclips. (I’m still not good at it.) I appreciate your opinions, your enthusiasm for riding and most everything associated with riding, as well as your focus on new/intermediate riders, where many of us live our motorcycling journey. The haters will hate, mostly because they wish they could do what you get to do. You are living the life/dream you set in front of you and it’s truly awesome to see! You worked freaking hard to get there too with multiple videos a week and working well outside your comfort zone. Keep smashing your goals and enjoy the journey! I’ll keep watching! And maybe one day we can do an “old school” moto camping video for old times sake.
I was a Patreon member and have watched everything you put out up until a year ago. I have purchased a lot of my gear based on your videos, I have Travis’s 3 man tiger wall only because it made sense after your comparison. I have a diamond park bag too. So I am not trying to talk shit about Ben. He is a great guy, it’s just that his content has changed and no longer interests me. I think when he had his T7 was his best content. Just because that is when he was doing what “We” can do, like he said in this video. I agree with the comment about how your content has changed. That’s life! I have learned a lot from you and appreciate the effort. Merry Christmas Ben and thanks.
I like the relatable part of the moto camping and the inexpensive bike content. Also, I like the unattainable bikes and locations that I get to see on your channel. Your nonreview/use of bikes is a better review than most reviewers can give just because of the casual and longer time frame of your content. Keep it up! Oh, I bought a CRF 300l rally in part because of your time with it on screen.
I am currently camping with my 6 year old son because of your content. You inspired me to get back in the woods and now I’m camping multiple times a year. Your channel is a force for good in my life and a great source of enjoyment. Appreciate you, bro. 🙏
Love your channel and accessibility to someone like me (a fellow portly middle aged gentleman). I’m genuinely appreciative for what you do. Merry Christmas from sub tropical Queensland Australia
I have watched your channel for a couple of years, it is my opinion you absolutely represent the Dork in the road 100%,just keep doing what you do I appreciate what you do. Keep up the great videos and opinions, everyone knows every RUclipsr needs to make their channel pay for itself. Keep doing what you do and I will keep watching.
You and Ian are at the top of my reviewer list. The fact that you’re even being retrospective is proof positive that’s far more about us than it is about you.
You’re doing awesome Ben, keep it up. Maybe also consider that huge stuff happened in early November and views may be down because some peeps are just nauseated by big issues not related to you. Cheers, brother.
Bro, you are awesome, don’t stop doing what ya do. Even this eating a little crow, is a breath of fresh air. You inspire lots of us to embrace our inner Dorks and get more blue skies over blue screens. One day I hope to catch a ride with ya, though I’m from NJ and that is a hike to Oregon. Maybe the Colorado trip if I can scrape some change together. Ride on Dork, much respect to you Sir.
Almost didn’t watch this video, not up for troll controversies. But, glad I did. Interesting to hear what’s up with your channel. Thanks for doing this one.
I’ve been subscribed for a while, and watched almost all videos published prior to sub’ing. I don’t feel any differently about the channel due to any ads, it’s part of RUclips. I do feel the channel has evolved and moving somewhat farther from what is relatable and enjoyable. I have similar thoughts to the comment shown around 12:30. Dork has done a great job not being a different personality from when the channel wasn’t his full time gig. But the big trips, the “first ride/test ride” videos from dealerships and large events is the same shit other moto guys do. What really set this channel apart from others in the past was Dork just doing the regular guy stuff. The ability to produce content that’s relatable to the degree that your audience doesn’t know you’re making a living making said content, is probably something to strive for. There are others that have done it, maybe Dork can get there at some point before devolving from interesting and humble, to a channel that’s forgettable.
I love your content, Dork! I appreciate the day to day Dork content as well as the aspirational trip vids too. I completely appreciate your financial need and trust your integrity. Keep up the great work! Happy Holidays, brother! I can't wait to see what content comes in the new year. Continue to grow, I'll keep watching.
I appreciate content creators who admit that they LIKE motorcycles and evaluate each based upon the target market. It's OKAY to like every bike you ride! Every bike out there will be PERFECT for SOMEONE. You just help identify who that "someone" is. You're correct that you can't just keep pumping out dozens of videos about the same bike over and over…or the same ride. I live in the Southeast and enjoy seeing rides from all over, like the BDR trails in the Northwest, the TAT or others far from me. I'm hoping to make it to South Dakota for the Get On! ADV Fest in July, thanks to content from you and others. As a retired individual new to riding, I appreciate the comparison of the Himalayan 450 to the Ibex 450 as I contemplate a bike big enough to ride TO the trail yet small enough for ME to ride ON it (my everyday "beginner" bike is a 450). As someone new to ADV, I also like equipment reviews as I wonder, "How does he keep his feet dry while riding through that?" I grew up in the 60s with commercial television. I watched Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble smoking in a cigarette commercial. The elves from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in GE ads. Bob Hope with a Pepsodent commercial around the corner from every joke. I can still sing the jingle to only trust your car to the man who wears the star. Those who have grown up watching streaming or cable channels without commercials don't understand that it's necessary to have sponsorships to pay the bills. In every NASCAR driver interview you'll hear something like, "Well, the ABC Printing and Wing Stop Ford kept us in the fight today." And let's not forget the Super Bowl champions who yell that the first thing they're doing after winning the Super Bowl is go to Disney World. Thanks for what you do.
Hey Ben, this video really hit a chord with me. I’ve enjoyed your videos for a few months now, I’m aspiring to learn how to ride this spring when the cold and rain lets up in the PNW and when I have more money in the bank. You have definitely been a big inspiration for my own motorcycling journey. I so appreciate you addressing all of these points. I am someone who leads with my gut feeling, and I’ve always had a good gut feeling about you, your integrity, and your intentions with the channel. I sincerely hope your channel views and success becomes reflective of your efforts and integrity. You’re a stand up guy, keep up the great work
Between yourself and Big Rock Moto at 49 I have taken up off-road Moto camping and love it. Thank you for your content and I’m happy to continue watching to help put your daughter through college. See you at the ABR UK this year and I would love to buy you a beer.
You didn't do a bad job at anything, Ben. Don't change a thing. Always enjoy your content. You remind me exactly of my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Catholic school English teacher, which makes your videos even better. I'm older, getting into ADVs late in life, and I want to combine motocamping with ham radio in my retirement years and your videos have been a big help (and so have 100 other ADV youtubers). Thanks Ben.
Bro, you're awesome. I bought my first bike ever (DRZ 400SM) about a year ago, and rode it from Houston to Washington DC, and back, solo. No way I would have had the confidence to take that jump without your videos. I'm a big fan. You're doing great!
You’ve always been an amazing ambassador for what we all love to do. Keeping things spread out all over the board is what you’ve always done in my book. You obviously pay attention to what’s going on behind the scenes, just keep being you and swerving when you need to and you’ll be fine!! Thanks for being my internet riding buddy!!
You're eloquent, honest, insightful and infectiously enthusiastic. From an old, old-school thumperite in Southern Africa (DR650 and Gen 1 KLR 650). Love your work!!!
You do an amazing job. We love watching your episodes, your travels, tips, reviews etc. thank you for sharing your knowledge, thoughts and for just being humble and honest
I live in Washington and I had absolutely no idea what I doing when I went and bought my 300 L. You saved me in so many ways. I learned a lot from you. I actually have confidence in myself just from watching where you came from to where you are now. I have learned a lot. You grabbed life by the handlebars and you made something of it. That is something most people cannot do. Don’t apologize for expanding your horizons. You would be a retired RUclipsr if you just kept doing the same old content for a couple of dusty trolls. If no one has said it yet, let me be the first. I am proud of you and how far you’ve come and I’m also a proud subscriber. Also, I must mention you have a huge following of people just like me that live and ride in the same areas that you do and we support you. So you sit back light up a stogie and just keep doing you.
I don’t care what others say. As a guy who’s been riding for 39 years (street bikes) and now researching for a dual sport bike your input is crucial for ME to help me decide which bike. PLUS, I really enjoyed the BDR series. I didn’t even know BDR even existed until your videos (which gets me MORE excited about a dual sport bike. TY for being a normal guy (Ian too). Keep rolling!
Do you know about the TAT? I didn’t know about it up until a few years ago, and I know not a lot of riders from the PNW don’t talk about it very much, because they have lots of cool places to ride, unlike someone from Louisiana or Mississippi.
I love all the videos you do. Although I can’t afford the expensive trips right now I love to watch the videos while I save up to do some of them myself. Also I don’t care about your sponsorships and I love to see you get them because it means you have the means to do more things.
Appreciate this video and your willingness to listen to the community. I would not be riding without you and you’re telling me to not let my weight hold me back from riding dual sport. I now own 4 bikes and ride as much as I can. Some of us also are growing our skills and will soon have ability to do some of these trips. So I think you should continue your traditional content but also continue doing the trips and exposing us to things we don’t know about til you share with us. Thanks for all you do and the impact that you have had on me personally. Thanks Ben!
78 years young and love your channel. Variety is the spice of life. Some video’s I like more than others but does not mean I don’t enjoy watching. I do! Your last comment should be Merry Christmas not happy holidays. I understand, but that’s just me, I get it. Merry Christmas dork keep up the great work. 😁
You’re doing great! You’re hitting a much needed fat band of the bell curve. I love watching guys like Adam R come at it from a pro perspective trying to reach down to pick up newbies with skills but I also need your approach. Keep it up, man!
You are an inspiration dude! I am also a big guy and I can totally relate to you. I was a cruiser rider until I found your channel. I am now learning and training on my 790 ADV. You and Ian @Bigrockmoto are the ones I watch the most. Don’t let haters slow you down. Keep up the positive vibes and great content!
Myself, and I suspect many others, were drawn to your channel for many reasons as we began our journey into adventure riding. Keep being you, my friend!
Happy Holidays Dork! Don't forget to be excellent to yourself! Life is a grind out here and self-care is important. Thanks for inspiring so many of us to get out there and try new things and adventure to new places. You are appreciated and I look forward to watching more of your videos! Sincerely, an East Coast Dork.
Genuine guy with a honest perspective. No shame in being excited about the cool stuff, and definitely no shame in getting carried away when you’re capable of genuine reflection and soulsearching every now and then.
And this is what I love about this channel! Just a normal guy reviewing normal motorcycles for the average rider. Love the fact that you are improving your riding skills.
Good on you for taking a look at the criticisms and responding to them, I think it's good to reflect on stuff. That said You're one of my favourite Creators and really inspired me to go out and try getting out of my comfort zone. . Love the budget friendly stuff but I appreciate that you point out when there's something that's worth splurging on because there's something to be said about buying nice not buying twice. I do chuckle a bit at the flying eyes thing but hey, if the product's good and they are going to pay you to wear it why not. Much love.
I really enjoy watching your content. You have morals when it comes to transparency and what sponsorships you are willing to take and stick to them. Plus you represent us regular adv riders. Bit of off road fun and a bit of on road travel. You are part of the majority and i love it.
Dude! I went 20 years not riding because I became an adult, work was crazy, then a dad etc. I loved motocross as my obsession as a kid and into college. You got me off of the couch and now I have a Crf450l and a tenere 700 and I got motivated to pursue my obsession once again man. If I ever see you I am running up to you and gonna give you a bear hug. You are real! Your authenticity starts and ends with the name of channel! You are a good dude! You aren’t pompous!!!! You are a blessing!!!!!
I, for one, have enjoyed watching you grow in your endeavors. You have persisted in your enthusiasm for offroad, and have given us some great advice and content. This coming from a 72 year old man who has been and still is, an ardent rider for the last 60 years. I have raced in Baja with SCORE three times. You do you and the heck with your detractors. I, for one, will look forward to your next adventure. Thank you.
I watch almost all of your videos and find that while not every video is tailored perfectly to me, there is enough variety that much of your content is very relatable and what isn't is still great entertainment. I really appreciate the variety! Concerning ads or sponsorships, I prefer to see an ad setup like a commercial if a RUclipsr just needs the support but may not want to personally promote the product. If they do promote it I'm hoping they truly believe in it. As long as that is clear and seems genuine then I'm good with it. If it appears to be promoted based on personal gain rather than truly believing in it, not a fan. To be clear, you come across very genuine to me and I have no issues with how you have utilized sponsorships. You seem very forthright and honest. Your also never going to make everyone happy but as long as you are honest, it shows no matter what anyone else says or does. I have a theory about Flying Eyes. Almost every adv channel is promoting them now so it is easy to assume they are really pumping out the ad money for sponsorship which, in turn, makes it easy for many to assume you are sponsoring the brand based on the highest bidder. The same can be said for Insta360, all of a sudden everyone is promoting them as well. Doesn't mean those aren't the best options in their respective categories but the coincidence is possibly unhelpful. If they are truly great and happen to be paying the most, sounds like a win. In the long run that should work itself out as the public domain will reach the same conclusion. I could also be totally wrong, lol. Either way, I love and enjoy your content. I'm stoked to see someone get to enjoy doing what I wish I could do full time and I get some great entertainment and feedback on things that interest me from it. Thanks for keeping it real, hope to cross paths one day!
Simply love this Ben. I live in a part of the country that makes BDR riding very difficult to pull off. I enjoy your content - all of it. Probably my least favorite content is the camping specific videos. It’s just not my thing. Content is great, but just doesn’t appeal to me personally. I say this to remind you that everyone is different and your success is because of your expansion of content, not restrained by it. Keep up the great work and I’ll keep watching!
I'm just glad there are people like you doing fun stuff and talking about it online, spending time watching these kinds of videos is so much better than what most people do online! Anything can be criticized or improved, that's not the point. You are good at this and wether or not I agree with everything you say and do, I appreciate what you are doing!
Dude. Love your content. You don’t need to change anything. You’re genuinely funny and are fun to watch on screen. Keep up the amazing content. Love ya buddy.
I appreciate your videos and your input on dual sports. You're one of many that gave me the confidence to get back out there while I'm in my 40s and wanted to get back on a bike. Thanks for what you do.
Mate, I remember that video about flying eyes, and you were very upfront about why you thought they were too expensive, that you would lose them but that they were premium glasses with a premium price. I only get away a few times a year myself due to work so I don't mind the longer trip rides, as when I do get away I am away for a week or so, but very rarely get away for just the weekend. We all have different tastes and needs, and I believe your content deals with many of those needs. People need to understand things change there is no getting away from that, and as you and they get better at riding camping or whatever other hobby, content and or needs when will change. Much respect, James.
Keep doing what you’re doing , I’m 35 , been riding since I was in my teens , and appreciate how normal and relatable you are. Fun channel , and thanks for having the balls to go do something you enjoy
Keep up the great work Ben. Just tackling this topic and being up front about it demonstrates relatability. Not all your videos resonate with me personally but your sense of humor, approach to treating people well, and respecting your audience does.
I found your content a couple months ago while researching camping gear for an upcoming trip and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the older videos as well as the new ones. Hope to one day be able to ride with you. Keep doing what you're doing, it's unique, educational, entertaining and relatable.
Ben, I enjoy the variety of content you produce. I've also noticed your gear and bike reviews have become a little more upscale, but that, I think, is just part of a natural progression as you learn and grow in the activities you love. I started watching you prior to me jumping into the ADV world having been exclusively a street rider. Partly because you had a lot of KLR contect and I just purchased a used KLR as my entry into ADV motorcycling. I upgraded to a KTM 890 Adventure R within 9 months, primarily because I "needed" more power. I recently sold the KLR and bought a slighly used DRZ 400s because I wanted something I could easily pick up by myself when riding solo. Your, and Ian's, DRZ content steered me to that bike and I don't think I would have landed there without it. I appreciate the content covering the "expensive" week long training and excursions because it shows what options are available. It's not something I can afford to do very often, but it helps me decide where to put my money. I don't mind the ads as long as the transparency is there. Keep up the good work.
As someone starting a moto vlog type channel I appreciated your video and hearing you work through some of those comments. Well done and keep at it, cheers.
Started watching a few days ago, love your content! Haven't rode bikes since I was a teenager, 35 years later, and I'm looking at getting an adventure bike. Your content has been very helpful! Thanks Keep it up!!!
Don't let a handful of miserable people on the Internet keep you from personal growth. I think you do a great job of staying humble with what you do!
I've been watching Dork since he was small. He has always come across as genuine and known as a respected rider and influencer
Define expert
Ex…. A has been
Spert… a drip under pressure
Expert… a has been drip under pressure
Great comment! 👍 you spoke up for the rest us 😊
Thank you 😊
Ok, I have a lot to say but I'm going to try and be brief.
Your comment, "When I stop to think something sucks, or is boring or hard or I don't feel like editing right now, I just think, you could be in a classroom right now in front of 34 angry freshman and I really appreciate what it is I get to do."
Ben, with two boys (who were freshman not too long ago) in high school, this has got to be one of the most sobering thoughts out there. LOL! 🙂
My two boys and I love watching your channel, especially during the winter time when we don't do a lot of dirt bike riding.
A gutsy video Ben. You honestly evaluated comments made, provided self reflection and mentioned some areas to work on. Respect
@@greyfisher3897 There's debare and disagreement which is fine but very different to direct attack on integrity or honesty. Now that's lame.
Very thoughtful and grounded. Appreciate your authenticity!
Your passion for dual sport gave me enough of an itch to buy a CRF300L. I'm very blessed to have your guidance and experience packaged in your videos.
Genuinely thank you for being you❤
We love you dork! Don’t let the haters get you down. Still got my 22 KLR 650 adventure and I go back and watch your KLR videos regularly.
Ignore the haters….continue being authentic.
Ben:
I’ve been following you and your channel for years.
I am mad at you tho for inspiring me to try and do it for myself 😛👍🏻(joking)
Thanks for video Ben, I’m still here watching and supporting 👊🏽
You Tube ,as an income stream...is the same as being a Pizza delivery driver..with your own car. Its all good until you have to invest in your machines..to keep it all going.
I watch all your videos. You do a great job.
Well said!
You're a good man Ben, and one of the most down to earth RUclipsrs out there. Keep up the good work.
Ben, just wanted to tic the positive box and thank you for all your content and contributions to the dual sport and adv community
Not all your content applies to me, but I enjoy your channel, keep doing what you’re doing and Merry Christmas
Just be yourself still love your content!
@@lukeadv yep.
The one star review dckheads hold a lot less power than they think.
Yeah..you just need a bike! ;)
@ you know that doesn’t take me much time usually… ;)
@@Mclovingarage I know a guy that may have a DRZ you are familiar with lol.
@ that’s awesome! Would it be white and blue?
@@Mclovingarage White and blue with a slight hue of shotgun clay on the farings
New respect - you handled that with a lot of respect and humility. Very refreshing video and well done.
Merry Christmas Dork and Mrs. Dork and Diskette
Keep doing what you’re doing! We thoroughly enjoy it. Merry Christmas to you and yours, from us here in Perth, Western Australia 🎄
As someone new to ADV, I also like equipment reviews as I wonder, "How does he keep his feet dry while riding through that?"
I grew up in the 60s with commercial television.
All positive from this ole dork! Trudge on! You inspire me and I’m just a pavement, highway, tourer/rider… God bless you, and Merry Christmas!
Thankyou for being the best DORK you can be. Merry Christmas!
Cheers fella! Love what you do! Happy to see you grow and change as both a rider and RUclipsr.
I heard a great comment from another rider "It's not your business what other people think of you" . Thanks for your content.
Hey Dork, I bought a 2019 Versys 650 LT because of you and still have it. Your honest opinion helped me. Thanks !! Merry Christmas!!!
@ I’ve never heard of it, no. I live in the desert (Las Vegas). I’ll research it though. 🤙
All your work is greatly appreciated. I think your content is great, a good balance between entertainment - information - fun.
I enjoy your channel. It’s entertaining, fun and interesting. Thanks for your effort and keep up the good work.
Reddit and the internet in general is the modern equivalent to writing on the toilet wall
Thanks, man, nice year-end video! And ….. Always nice to get a peek behind the moto-kimono!
Much respect,
James.
Keep doing what you’re doing , I’m 35 , been riding since I was in my teens , and appreciate how normal and relatable you are. Fun channel , and thanks for having the balls to go do something you enjoy
You do a great job and I’ve learned a ton. Keep up the good work!!!
Hey, what's your name? Where do you live? Lol. Just messin'
