- Welcome to the Holzmichl Channel.
In this video I show how I 'rescued' an old Graule AGT (cross-cut, miter and table saw) from a damp garage basement and restored it to its functionality with much underestimated effort.
It was mainly about removing rust from the guides and making the parts fit together again. No roller bearings had to be changed or parts had to be turned or milled.
Spare parts are still available from the manufacturer Graule www.graule.de or from dealers such as Reichardt Spezialmaschinen www.reichardt-... or Schachenmeyer webshop.schach... /cat/de-DE/products/graule-spare-parts/10000_32996_1 ...
The Graule AGT was supposedly built from 1985 - 1995, the AGL is said to have been built from 1988 - 1998. In my opinion, the AGL (cross-cut and miter saw with longitudinal cutting device) is identical in construction to the AGT, although I suspect that they no longer wanted to have the word "table saw" in the product name. There is no cross-cut fence on the top table. It wouldn't make sense, because cutting to length (cross-cut) is done on the lower table. The upper table was only used for the use to rip cut a board or strip (lengthwise) with this saw.
The AGT / AGL is actually a radial arm saw with a small saw table on top. Thousands of Graule radial arm saws have been manufactured in proven quality for decades and are very popular in carpentry and window manufacturing companies.
Even if a machine like this has been sitting around for a long time and is so rusty, it is worth fixing it up again. The biggest effort is to get the functional surfaces free of rust without removing too much metal. Here I removed the rust with citric acid. This works very well and does not attack the metal. However, you have to wash off the acid and neutralize it with soda water. In any case, the water must be forced out of the pores and an anti-corrosion oil (e.g. from Ballistol) must be applied. Where wood slides over metal surfaces, you use dry lubricant (e.g. silver lubricant) and wooden surfaces such as the cutting table are being waxed.
In any case, you will then have a Graule that runs smoothly and works robustly and precisely.
I would like to add here that the younger ZS models were equipped with tension dampers, especially when saw blades with a positive tooth angle were still permitted. On older machines without a pull damper and a saw blade with positive tooth angles, the saw blade can quickly jam into the workpiece if the pull (feed) is too fast. If you can, replace the saw blade with one with a negative tooth angle.
