  • Away The Travel Trolls Go! We finally get on the ferry after getting our motorhome searched as we entered the port in Plymouth. Then more antics as Mazzy takes sick before the anchor is lifted. It wasn't the easiest of journeys without a cabin to sleep in but somehow we made it all the way here and thanks to our Rural Internet (link further down), we managed to bring you this video from Spain. A good nights rest ahead and then let the adventures begin!!

Brilliant to watch your travel adventures.. Sorry Mazzy was sick. The French speaking at the start of your journey is because the vessel you’re on ( Pont Aven ) is French registered 🇫🇷 ( Morlaix )

  • @suestone7791

We were searched in our caravan too. We’re there no cabins left? It’s a long journey in chairs it is worth the extra money, bed and shower! . See if you can get one on way home, they are cheaper on return. Brittany …… French , lol that’s why they use French first! You made me laugh , wrong boat 😂 some people take travel tabs a few hours before journey , they knock you out . Put your watch on your right hand, that hand is always next to kerb, passenger side in centre of road. That’s how I remember, soon it will be second nature to you .Looking forward to joining you both in Spain xx❤️

I have used the seabands many times on cruises and boats or long car rides. They work for me. Looks like you might have yours on wrong. The rounded part of the white button needs to hit the pressure point on your wrist, not the flat part. Enjoy your trip!

The reason crew were French is in the name, "Brittany" Ferries !! We had terrible rough seas across the Bay Of Biscay, but I loved it. We were having dinner and all but me of our group had to make excuses and leave the table !!

We feel for Mazzy. It's horrible seasickness, Jenny suffers from it. Jenny took ginger tablets, and the sea band that Mazzy got, but our NI crossing was so much smoother than yours. Get better soon. We couldn't do that crossing with having to leave Poppy in kennels and Jenny's seasickness.

Aww Mazzy, I’m glad I’m not the only one to do daft things when I’m in a bit of a panic. My Auntie had the sickness on boats ,she was hanging over the boat being sick and her false teeth shot out and my mum managed to catch them.😂 phew!

Brittany ferries are a French company, that’s why the announcements are in French with English and Spanish added on. It always looks like they’ll never get everyone on the boat before departure, but once you’re in that queue on the dockside you’re going to get on, they won’t leave you behind. I don’t think I’ve ever been on a Brittany ferry that’s left on time yet, they’ve always left a few minutes late, but over the time you travel they can go a bit faster and make up the time to arrive on time.
I did thought you were optimistic about the sleeper seats, I’ve tried them in the past, it was hopeless there was no way I was ever going to get any sleep on one of those. Ok I’m a big lad, 6’ 3” and around 140Kg, but the seats don’t recline very far they are cramped and the sound of snoring meant there was no way I was ever getting to sleep. So now when I do a ferry trip I either have a cabin or if they are fully booked out I’ll find a quiet corner put a blanket down and sleep on the floor. The extra few quid for a cabin is well worth it, proper bed with your own toilet and shower plus it gives you somewhere to go and properly lay down if you do get motion sickness like Mazzy.

Being in the Navy. You have to eat to line your stomache you will be surprised how many muscles you use on a pitching and rolling ship. Hence you felt tired. Always take sea sick pills at least 12hours before sailing. Drink water too. Go to the upper deck fresh air and seeing the horizon helps. Enjoy your trip to Spain. Dave in Australia 🇦🇺

She said she knew she could be sea sick. So why wouldn't you bring them with you.
I'm prone to it and always take medication before embarkation.
      Lesson learned I suppose.

You two are just AMAZING!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this first part of your adventure.
So sorry to see you so unwell Mazzy. We hope you will find travel tablets in Spain, if not let us know and maybe we can send some over if you stay in the same place for a few days👍🤞💝 Travel tablets for them to work you start taking them a few hours BEFORE you go into the ship. I also get sea sick and although even after taking the tablet I still feel strange in my head but not as sick as when I don’t take them.
And Mazzy it’s amazing how beautiful you look after feeling so unwell.
We loved your conversation with John! HILARIOUS.
We hope you both had a good night sleep after this long journey. We so enjoyed this episode. Thank you💝💝💝

I was in a 1998 off road Land Rover discovery that was slow and rolled like an arse in a gale. I did it though and like doing it. That warm Spanish wind.. i hear you.. its beautiful. My inly regret was i didnt move here sooner. ❤

The great Pont Aven boat, the only time I've seen water in the pool, was years ago and they had to empty it because the sea was so rough... glad to see you were feeling better early morning Mazzie. Bon voyage. Way up the pros and cons of travelling back driving through France and catching a ferry back to UK, cheaper ferries are from Calais-Dover Dunkirk-Dover and shorter crossings for Mazzie.

My first time on a ship, was in 1946, heading to Hawaii to meet up with dad, who was stationed there in the Navy... Don't remember that one.. I was not even one yet.. I turn 77 Saturday.. lol Man I'm gettin old.
Back in 1955, Mom, my brother and sister, and I spent 2 weeks on a ship, going to Guam In the Pacific.. Navy move again. Sea Sick for a day or so.. but then someone showed me how to stand and walk on a rocking ship.. and I never got sea sick again.. Even when I spent 2 years on an Aircraft Carrier in the late 60s.. When the ship rocks one way.. you lean the opposite way.. It works.. I love the ocean.. and here I sit in the middle of the mountains of Montana. USA... haha
Loved the video guys.. I felt for Mazzy.. nothing worse than being sea sick..
I think that wrist band must of worked... cus she was seeming a lot better walking with you on deck... I have a friend who wore those when he was going through Kemo a few years back.. Killed that type of motion sickness...

My wife and I did the same crossing in 2005. I was freelancing for MMM magazine and had to cover Spain and it's attractions in two days! We went aboard the same vessel, the Pont Aven. Freelancing worked like this. 1: Test a motorhome, in thuis case a Marqis A Class. 2: Go to wherever and stay at a campsite, then blag my way into whichever sttractions/restaurants/stores that were to be covered. Publishing to 36,000 readers helped - all concerned liked a free ad. 3: get the notes, take th p ictures, write the articlas and get them in on deadline. My wife suffered seasickness in the Bay of Biscay but a combination of Prosecco and Dramamine did the trick as usual. My cast-iron stomach nver rebelled on the water. We had a cabin, which was pleasant. The magazine picked up all the tabs, fuel, insurance, campsites and expenses. However, as freelancing does, it all came to a halt with the 2006 recession. Happy days, retired now.

Went to Spain for the winter before covid and brexit and was so rough on the way to Spain that i spent the whole trip in my cabin lying on my bunk and rolled out of it twice with the rolling of the ship, couldn't stand up, then when covid started in the march we were all told to leave Spain, no ferry so had to book the tunnel and travel up through Spain and France then in uk all the way down to Cornwall, always loved spending the wnters in Spain, 6 months but haven't been since we can only stay for 90 days ,not worth all the expence but will see as time goes on, safe journey.

Glad you arrived OK! 😁 Mazy next time where you can, look at the Horizon and focus on it! It's a constant it doesnt move, it's the motion sickness really not Seasick as such! Kwells are good tablets to take! I find the rougher the sea the better for me! My first night out on Sea Trials on a Navy Frigate it was Blowing a Force 9 gale all night! Didn't even know! Annoying the fact the other side of the Bulkhead was the Hydraulic Pump for the Steering Gear! Real Noisey! Also being near Midships less movement just like a Seesaw! At times walking up the main Companion way on the ship, one minute looking at the deck next the Deckhead (ceiling)!! So pitching a lot! We've seen all 3 Cunard Ships at Weymouth the other year! 😁
